Foodie help Re chilli in slow cooker

Chocolate Button, 1 December, 2008 at 15:23 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 6

I only have 4.5 hours to cook a chilli in the slow cooker, I don't really understand my slow cooker settings, and don't want a dried up from being cooked to high or raw chilli from being too low. I have the following settings: Auto, Low, High.

Thanks

I don't know your cooker but I'd say cook your stuff on high - and maybe brown the mince etc first so it goes into the pot hot?

It shouldn't dry out in that space of time as long as your lid fits properly, no matter what setting you have it on.

I don't understand why you'd need 4.5 hours to cook a chilli. It takes what, 30 minutes on the hob. Am I missing something?

I'd say cook it on high. I have got mince out to make chilli in mine for tomorrow. I love slow cooker chilli, much more tasty that normal cooked chilli. Probably because it's soaked in the spices for longer.

It tastes nicer if you cook it slower than 30 mins.

H takes longer than 4.5 hours to make a chilli and he cooks it on the hob! He does love his chilli!

I think I'd brown the mince and put it in the slow cooker on high.

Well its in so fingers xed!!!

I browned the mince and onion and have chosen auto - i think I remember this setting gets it to a boiling heat then regulates it, and the high setting keeps getting hotter and could dry it out.

I'm gonnna do what I should have earlier and google my slow cooker instructions!!!
