Foodies: Something different to do with broccoli?

DaisyDaisy, 4 November, 2008 at 16:13 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 12

Does anyone do anything whizzy with their broccoli, I'm sadly a bit tired of it and want to do something new - any suggestions? All gratefully received.

Going to have it with Beef stew and mashed potatoes.

I blend garlic, chilli, and loads of basil with oil olive and a really good balsamic vinegar. Add salt and pepper then pour over brocolli and oven roast for 25 mins, turning once.

That made my taste buds ache Lady Lucan...I'm going to try something like that! Don't have much basil, maybe chili flakes, garlic and ..sesame? quick fry and just toss the broccoli in it. Thanks.

Thanks also Kieran, I'll look that out for another time, I'm certainly up for cauli too.

God that sounds nice too Kegsey - I have been living a dull broccoli life. I'm not even sure if I can spell broccoli.

Sounds perfect. I personally would add a touch of balsamic as the contrast with the mash is something I love but I'm sure that will be really lovely.

That's a good idea - I wouldn't call my balsamic 'good' though, but it's nice to cut through everything else, great, thanks

Fry some fennel seeds in a little olive oil, when they start to run brown and smell like fennel chuck in broc florets, s&p, and a glass of white wine, and a small knob of butter. stick the lid on, and steam for about 4 mins then take the lid of and reduce the liquid, and toss all together. a squeeze of lemon juice at the end wouldnt go amiss either - a nice contrast to the rich flavour of the beef and the mash

Nice one, thanks Nick. I have everything but white wine, so I'll save this for another time.

Thanks everyone, I think we can safely say you have all re-ignited my enthusiasm for cooking broccoli. x
