For anyone that is having readings at their ceremony I have a question...

Karen1980, 7 January, 2010 at 11:37 Posted on Planning 0 3

Are you having your readers at the rehearsal?
My reader is 200 odd miles away and wont be able to come.. Im not even going to ask her as she cant make the journey for me hen night so expect she wont be able to make the journey for the rehearsal.
Any ideas? is this risky? I think it is and now im worried.
Im also worried that she's travelling from so far that she might be late for the wedding as well - I think she's coming up on the day of the wedding not the night before....
Thanks

I'm having a civil ceremony but am having readers and not planning to rehearse them - I've read at a couple of weddings and not done a rehearsal (well, except at home by myself of course!).

The "coming up on the day", however, I would be more concerned about. My friend got married in Cumbria (I'm in London) and advised us all to come up the night before. Another friend got married in Gloucestershire, and although I should have had plenty of time, my first train arrived late, and i missed my connection - ended up with someone having to drive us from Bristol. I'd ask her if she minded coming up the night before - perhaps you could even spend it together in lieu of your hen night - and find somewhere cheap for her to stay.

I'm sure that as long as she has practiced it herself and is confident with it there shouldn't be a problem with not being at the rehearsal.

i would be a little concerned about making a 200 mile journey on the day of the wedding, my family are comming from leeds to ipswich which is about that and it takes around 4hours in car, i get so tired when i do the drive myself that i wouldn't fancy going to a wedding on the same day

She's coming up to visit in Feb so perhaps I'll do a bit of digging then and find out what she is planning on doing. Trouble is she has 4 dogs that will need to go into Kennels.. although I have a funny feeling her hubby wont come and she'll come with her daughter

I wouldn't worry about it. I'm sure your friend has practised and won't let you down. Remember she's the one who's going to have to speak in front of a large group of people, so it's in her interests to do it well. And even if she does make a mistake, it's these little things that make your day unique to you.

We got married abroad in June and didn't really have a rehearsal. We relied entirely on the registrar to guide us. Ok, she forgot to turn her mic on. And she didn't do things exactly right. But, you know what? It all added to the day. In my eyes, everything was perfect. And our readers were great too.

Oh and like anyone's focussing on the readers anyway! It's the brides day! ?
