For OM's ......

swampy1901, 16 September, 2012 at 17:24 Posted on Planning 0 14

Just being curious here...what did your husbands think of your dresses? I only ask because although my husband loved my dress it was totally unlike what he had pictured in his mind. He had thought that I would be wearing a short/knee length dress as we had both been married before. He was so taken by surprise that he was very emotional and wouldn't or couldn't look at me for fear of being overcome with tears. As it was his eyes were rather suspiciously red when I finally joined him in front of the registrar.

He loved it but for different reasons to yours.

He's always hated wedding dresses (he's strange) but still thought I'd go for a traditional dress.

As it turns out I fell in love with a coffee coloured tea length dress and he raved about it.

He knew broadly what style I'd wear because 1. He knows me and 2. We discussed particular cars and I assured him that I'd easily get in and out of a sporty number. He said that even though he was predicting non-strapless and bias-cut (although, you understand, he didn't know the term 'bias-cut'), he wasn't expecting the whiteness nor the back detail! He didn't cry though! His final assessment was 'Nice frock that'.

My hubby didn't say much but after the ceremony he just stared at me for ages, then he ran his hand over the beads and was shaking his head (in amazement I hope) and just said 'perfect', so I assumed he liked it!

Mine thought I would go for slim cut dress- he couldt have been more wrong! He also asked why my dress wasn't strapless? He thought that all wedding dresses were strapless as that's all he had ever seen people wear at a wedding or when hes seen pictures of people on here. The fact that I never have my shoulders out because I am covered in awful scars on my back didn't seem to cross his mind!

My OH thought I looked beautiful in it, and couldn't define it or give any names for the details/shapes etc but said it was the purfect dress for me, it suited me purfectly and he's glad I didn't wear anything else. Of course he may have said that had I worn a different dress, but he seemed to love it on me.

H thought it was wicked and totally me, said I looked beautiful and lots of other fabulous things.

He thought I would be in a long slinky number but loved my dress.

Haha well I had been joking that I had a big fat gypsy dress, and that it had 7 layers of skirt. This was true, but I had 3 or 4 layers taken out to make it lighter. He had the idea in his head of a proper gypsy dress, especially when I said it had bling on it. I can't blame him for thinking this, especially since he knows I detest satin dresses, hence him thinking big taffeta and tulle creations!

At the altar, he said I looked amazing, and afterwards, when we could talk properly, he said "you totally played a blinder with that dress!". He loved it. I knew he would, a DTTB seaside wedding had a bride doing the same as me - loose hair down, barefoot and chiffon dress - and he said he really liked that look Smiley smile

Pretty much this! He liked the waist it gave me too. (Or at least, "it makes you go in and out at the right places".)

Dont think he felt strongly either way, as he would say "what do I know about dresses"

I asked him a few months later if you could describe it, he got it SO wrong, I started a thread on here which had OMs asking their husbands if they could remember the dress. Turns out most of them could and mine is just unobservant!! (even with all the photos have around the house!!"

He loved it - commented a few times that he couldn't believe how big it was and how long the train was and yet still looked beautiful. Both were fairly average, certainly not over the top for a wedding dress but I guess I don't wear stuff like that normally! He has said many times since that I looked amazing. He had a few tears as I walked down the aisle too1

In fairness I doubt any self respecting husband would tell you if he thought your dress was hideous or bum looked big on your wedding day would he?......just saying. ha

ETA not suggesting that anyone's dress was hideous or bum looked big.

He was pretty spot on guessing what it looked like which shocked me as it was the complete opposite of what I set out to buy. In that respect he probably wasnt surprised but said he liked it.
