Foundation help / recs please!

lamby, 8 July, 2011 at 11:57 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 14

Hi make up wearers!

I've reached the end of my MAC liquid foundation, and though it was okay, I don't think it was perfect for me for the price, but am a bit lost at all the different options on the market so would love some recommendations to hopefully avoid spending £££ on one that isn't great!

I use Benefit pore / primer thing which I quite like, and also their boing concealor but I haven't heard much about their foundations. I've heard good stuff about Dior but they're pretty blimmin' expensive so wouldn't want to pay out without some gold star reviews! So any info on those or others appreciated!

I'm after a flawless look, opposed to dewy. I still get spots (sob) and have an oily forehead (nice!) but a few dry patches too, so guess I'm looking for something that means business!

Have also found some discounted Calvin Klein foundation but can't seem to find many reviews about them.

TIA ?

I really love Estee Lauder double wear - I would head to the EL counter and ask for their rec on foundations and they will usually give you a 7 day sample to try it out before you buy :-)

Will echo the last post I love Estee Lauder double wear I have used it for a few years now and tried loads of different ones, clinique, lancome, mac and I always go back to Estee Lauder, the coverage is great it isnt heav and it lasts literally all day. It has an SPF of 10 to so great protection. If you go to a counter in Debenhmas or HOF they will happily give you a few little sample pots to try.

Ooh fab, thanks both - sounds like exactly what I need. I've realised a foundation isn't necessarily going to be perfect for my skin / solve all my problems / change my life jsut because it's expensive!! And though I like Mac stuff, I don't think this one did the business for me.

Will nip to Debenhams once this rain stops! Thanks again ?

They'll do a match on your skin first but I would ask for a few differnt shades to try as some are quite similar.

I have a Maybelline one which is not that expensive called Dream Satin. I had a Mac one for the wedding, but it was just too thick and I didn't like the feel of it on my skin so I have gone back to this because as yet I have not found anything as good. also, because it's not too pricey, what I do is buy a shade which matches me at my palest and one which matches me at my most tanned and then I mix the two as appropriate so I always get the right shade.

I am going to re-invest in Dior nude foundation this weekend actually, so its a 5* review from me, but that said, everyone's skin is different.

I've tried others, and they've not worked, so i'm having Dior back for our wedding - can't wait!

There are several different types of MAC ones so I wouldn't rule them out altogether. I also really rate Laura Mercier stuff.

I think the lady who did my make up used Dior on me and I ❤️ it! I didn't think to ask though, but I remember her saying she liked Dior and Mac and usually mixed them. I obviously had all sorts of primer and concealor going on too but the final look was fab (and not something I could ever recreate myself!) Definitely worth it for your Big Day - exciting!

I know, it's very sad but I can't wait to start using it again. I was talked into trying the latest No7 in a bid to reduce costs, and it's an awful colour on me (but does give me fab, lasting coverage), even though the seller did the skin colour matching etc.

The woman who's doing my make up using a brand i've not heard of/used before, so I am trying my own and hers to see which suits me best.

I have two depending on the look I am going for...

Bare Essentials powder for a light coverage, and Benefit Flawless for a more made up look.

I also use Benefit primer - either That Gal or Girl Meets Pearl (a bit more glam)

Both fab and work well with my skin!

Big ? everyone. Have just been to Debs and got a 10 day sample of the EL double wear, seems very nice (from the small patch of skin that is currently sporting it!) and it's great that I can try before I buy! I also fell in love with their new illuminating skin fixing thing...until I found out it was £45 for the smallest size!!

Kayl good luck with your wedding make up, sounds like you've got all bases covered! ?

Have heard good things about Girl meets pearl Mrs C - is that an illuminating primer? I've been using Porefessional which I like but am nearly out of that as well so might get something slightly different.

Have you heard of this site?

    http://www.charoux.co.uk/shop/catalog/browse?shop_param=shop_overview_pager%3D1%26cid%3D1%26

It's not the full range by any means but the prices are simply ridiculous! I ❤️ it. Have used them loads and they always arrive v quickly.
