foundation recs-acne sufferers

marriedgal05, 21 July, 2008 at 12:13 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 12

I suffer from hormonal acne, fairly badly around my chin and jawline and have been using estee lauder double wear for years, only recently it doesn't seem to be doing the job of disguising my spots/redness very well and i just looked caked and nasty. Does anyone have any recs for full cover foundation? I have tried L'oreal infallible and True match minerals and both are crap for me, Thanks

After coming off the pill I'm starting to get my hormonal acne back. I'm using L'oreal true match Minerals at the moment but only to use it up. I'll be def going back to Jane Erdale mineral makeup, far better coverage the last time I had this although it is quite expensive. I'm also considering trying Sheer Cover. I'll be very interested on further recommendations though.

Have you looked at the Almay range? I use a concealer and a powder that contains something that dries out spots. They must do a foundation too. I think the active ingredient is called salycylic acid or something like that (sure I've got that a bit wrong).

Thanks i do remember having a foundation years ago by Nutrogena that had salicylic acid in it and was excellent but they stopped making it. Boots do almay i think don't they? I will pop in there and have a look this afternoon. I had a baby 10 months ago and my skin was pefect for the first time in 15 years but now it's all back, pondering going back on dianette which does help me but i want another baby soon and know dianette takes a good 6 months to make a difference. So depressing yesterday i just sat and cried about it for 20 mins. Feel so ridiculous but no one understands how upsetting it is.

I was on dianette for this reason but had to come off it due to health reasons. I'm not allowed to go back on the pill & I'm finding it very hard going back to my old skin! I find it worse a week before I'm due. I know how you feel though, sometimes I won't go out because my face is so sore from the acne. I've booked myself in for a medicated decongesting facial on Wed. I'm hoping it helps!

When I had bad acne I used an Estee Lauder Maximum Cover foundation. They didn't always have it on the counter but had it if I asked. It comes in a tube and is lightweight but has really good coverage, I never found anything that hid the redness so well.

I remember this Neutrogena stuff - it was great! They still sell it in America - bit of a long shot but if you have any friends in or travelling to America they might be able to help! I stocked up on my last visit.....

    Try id Bare Eccentuals.

They have a very good concealer called multi-tasking concealer

    Selfridges have just launched it.

I would say go into Selfridges (if your near one) & get them to go through the products.

Don't know anyone going to america unfortunately but maybe i can get it online...i will look into it. Thanks for the bare escentuals link, i will have to pop into selfridges next time i'm in London, otherwise i guess i could order from QVC as think they have a money back guarantee anyway. I have been to Boots today which was pointless, i must have tried every foundation they have in there, although it was only a small store so no premium brands, i will try and get to john lewis later in the week and do the rounds asking for samples (and being made to feel like a cheapskate by the assiatnts!)

Bigger Boots stores will do Almay.

Don't feel silly about crying over it - people don't realise how much it knocks confidence. ?

Please please try Ketsugo gel. It's not a foundation but a treatment that really works. I too have spent many days in tears over my terrible skin and this has helped a lot. I buy it from A.mazon. good luck

I too used to suffer from acne..

I've used the Clinique regime for about 1.5 years now, and don't even break out when I've got my period!

I use the 3-step Clinique regime, plus the turnaround concentrate, then as foundation I use "Superbalanced Makeup" it doesn't clog up my pores, and my skin looks great now! ?

It's expensive, but it's worth it...

Just wanted to update on how my facial went. I went for a Dermologica Medicated Clearing Treatment. Currently I have broke out along my jaw, cheeks and chin. They where starting to heal a bit anyway. My face was very congested too. My therapist spent about 2 hours with me in total. She cleansed my face before doing a face map. She did the facial, including extractions and afterwards had a talk about everything she used and went over the face map. She sent me away with loads of samples of different cleansers etc to try to let me decide which I preferred. My face feels so much better & I've booked another one for about 3/4 weeks time. I'm really pleased, the only thing is is if I decide to use all the products she recommended its gonna cost me a fortune!
