I don't plan on marrying until September 2015 but I'm already panicking!! Always better to be safe than sorry so I wanted to allow myself a lot of time to save.... Hopefully I will have saved enough by then!

There was a point where I panicked but that was because OH was left unemployed when we only had 6months to go.

If that hadn't happened then although it didn't leave much for lots of going out, we would have had enough because we budgeted right at the beginning and set our date according to the kind of wedding we wanted and how much it would take us to save for that.

In the end we are ahead of budget with 8weeks to go.

Is there anything you can cut back on at all to bring the finances back to within what you can afford? Don't forget when you send invites any declines you get is money saved too.

Is it bad that I want people to decline? ?

That is great you are ahead of budget 8 weeks to go eek!

We have been saving and have done really well so far. We aren't having that big a wedding 65-70 guests and we wanted it simple and informal. My gran passed away in Sept and since her funeral we have 8 more people who will have to be invited hence my mother paying towards some of the meal. We also had to pay more than we had budgeted for a band but I am ok with this because they will be really good and to top it all off My lovely OH is going to go self employed in end of March eek so proud of him but timing could of been better Smiley winking My only hope is I might lose a bit of weight either from the stress or the student food I will be resorting back too lol cheesy beanos anyone lol

    Hi Han19

Thats good you have given yourself time to save my advice which I would give is try make a rough budget now and organise a savings plan for a set amount each month. I wish id put slightly more away each month because things always crop up like little extras for wedding and if your like me I didn't plan on the car needing fixed for mot or friends Birthdays (most of my friends turned 30 this year). I was a bit naive and thought all my extra money would go towards the wedding.

Not at all, we high fived each other every time we got one!! (with the exception of 1 or 2 that were pretty gutting, most were people we were neither here or there about)

Yes, unfortunately the savings I already had (before I even got engaged!!!) all went when my car decided to need a new clutch fitted, and a new tyre Smiley sad Then my OH's car failed it's MOT. They both had their MOT's in December which of course is a bad month because of Christmas presents etc. So we are back to square one again now. Which made me feel really awful because I spent a long time saving what I had and it has all gone now. Oh well, at least I actually have a wedding on the cards now Smiley winking should make saving up a bit easier *fingers crossed*

Oh no Elodia I hope you can sort things out with your mum because it would be such a regret in years to come if she missed your wedding. xx

Budgets are indeed very stressful! We worked out a rough budget when we started the planning, we then decided we would save without counting what the family were contributing, just incase they withdrew the gift.

So, we took the budget divided it by 14 months [we planned the budget 18 months before the date, but obviously you have to pay for the wedding so much before the wedding itself]. Then we forced ourselves to save the amount the spreadsheet said per month. Where possible we over paid. So much so that we're now done, as both sets of parents are contributing.

However, don't want to get complacent so we're going to keep saving until we have the full amount ourselves [should be totally done by march] and then, we'll have some extra for honeymoon spends/put towards moving to a bigger house.

    Total panic mode!!!

I've just got a part time job on Saturdays at a local baker to help contribute more, I will be selling whatever I can on Ebay and won't be going out much to make sure the amount which goes on a credit card at the end is minimal.

    7 months to go.

    Eeek

    xx
