Fucking freecycle fucks

Knownowt, 20 April, 2009 at 19:18 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 31

Does anyone else use Freecycle? I love the idea of it but, every time I use it, am overcome with the rudeness and uselessness of people. I've only ever given things away, and almost every time the person collecting is massively late or doesn't show at all. What is it about being given something for free that makes people act so appallingly- it's as if the fact they're not paying means they can act like complete jerks.

Gargh. I hate it. If only Freecycle had some sort of feedback system like ebay, so one could identify teh flakes and timewasters.

I've given up on it because the only people I ever got were w@nkers, AND I got a load of abusive emails from some freak.

I think we must have been very lucky, we have got rid of a few things on Freecycle and the people who collect have been great. They have all arrived as promised, taken the stuff away - one even brought me a nice present (beautifully wrapped scented candle) to say thankyou!

I never have much luck with it either. People promise to collect and never do and then after I've paid the council to dispose of stuff I get people emailing me for weeks after requesting it. Either that or they ask me to deliver to them. Grr it makes me so mad sometimes.

Just checking if I can say *** too? <childish icon>

My freecycle experience has been minimal and so far OK, although I'm very willing to believe that people can be absolute w*ankers. Some of the wanted posts prove that without going any further ?

I'm currently feeling ranty about a fooking E-bay fook, though. Bought a bookcase off me on the 8th April, paid via PayPal, and despite several emails, hasn't bothered to get in touch to collect. What am I, a bloody warehouse?

    (Sweary test- *** *** ***)

It's shocking, I think. I know people can be rubbish but you'd think something like freecycle, which relies on people being considerate of others, wouldn't attract the terminally rude and thoughtless.

I've been trying to think about it from the other POV. Although I'm the person giving the stuff away, it's not as simple as me doing someone else a favour- they're also doing me a favour by taking away something I don't want. But even so, it's no justification. Bloody rude people.

Glad some of you have had better experiences. I think I'd faint if someone gave me a present ?

I haven't used Freecycle myself, but my H has, and my mum, and they've both had good experiences.

That said, I wonder if its turning a little like Car Boot Sales have. People trying to find things they can flog for a profit. Its a shame as its not what freecycle is meant to be, but I bed a large proportion of those who reply regularly are trying to make a fast buck.

    Perhaps I'm too cynical?

After a couple of false starts, I only offer to people who request one thing (if I list several) and can write in sentences. This method has not yet failed.

    Freecycle ?

i ve used it twice. once to give away some patio heaters, and once to get rid of a dishwasher.

the first time, i clearly stated they must be picked up, and replys varied from "can u drop dem round cuz i dont drive and cudnt get dem back here" to "we'd love the heaters and can pick up at your convenience". Guess who got them ?

the second, a dishwasher. again stated pickup only.. "can u bring it round?" , "is it easy to plug in and work?", "can u show me how 2 use it?", "will u plug it in for me?", "we've been looing for a dishwasher for ages but just havent had the money for one. we'd love to take it off your hands and have transport" ?

I had a large glass dining room table and six chairs to get rid of and phoned a local charity and they lifted it free of charge and at the time they said they would arrive. Really helpful - maybe this would be an option?

Argh, I hate freecycle. It is stuffed full of piss takers, imo.

I freecycled a couple of things and they got collected no problem. Then I had some Ikea room divider lights. I even put a link to the ikea website so people got the idea. When the woman (who arsed me around contact wise for days) came to collect, she wasn't expecting them to be 'so big'. So the words room divider and the exact fecking meassurement not a clue, then?

So, she had got a friend to give her a lift in a bloody two seater car and couldn't fit them in. I offered to pop them round to her. Followed them to her house, got no thanks and ujst repeated mutterings about how big they were and she wasn't sure they would fit and could I wait while she tried them? I didn't and as soon as I got home I deregistered from Freecycle. I cannot deal with stupid people, ungrateful people, hard to contact people and freecycle is stuffed full of these, from what I and other people locally have experienced.

I quit freecycle because I spent half an hour humphing packing boxes outside for collection and the "collector" never even apologised for not coming, they just disappeared.

I also quit because the boards were full of people requesting things like working cars, working laptops with x specifications, caravans, and a Little Tyke X type climbing frame for my grandson when he comes to visit.

It's a way of recycling goods, not a fecking wish list, greedy fcukers.

Mostly I've had good experience from Freecycle and given away stuff that would normally have been chucked.... wedding magazines.... next catalogues (some woman who makes paper bowls or something)....left over plasterboard. We gave awaysome bedroom furniture that would no longer fit in our bedroom and the couple wanted to come round and collect it on the Saturday afternoon, we explained that it wasn't convenient as we would be busy getting married so they nicely collected it on the Sunday and brought us a bottle of wine to say congratulations, We did have someone who took nearly two weeks of e-mails back and forth to come and collect a sofa.

I have a freecycle broker, its the way forward. My friend at work - she is the freecycle member, I bring my stuff into work, she puts it online, I choose who gets it and then they collect from the office during working hours, so no waiting around for non collecting tosspots and no giving out details of my home address and when I will/won't be in the house.

I have freecycled loads that way, plus she has a good memory of who is sound and who is an idiot which helps when choosing who to give it to. Just gave a cotbed away actually to a really nice family and felt its going to a good home.

My friend also looks out for things I might want (children's clothes generally) and if I want her to do a wanted post for me, she will.

I've never used Freecycle and thought it was a good idea, it's just a shame that so many good ideas like this get abused by some of the population.

I have given away quite a few things and got 2. Never had any problems and everyone has been helpful and polite, I do only reply to those who can write in sentences and ask nicely without begging though.

I get sick of the rude grabbers that are asking for things like cars and laptops but they have to be wonderful and fantastic.

i recently got some ballet shoes off a lady, she said a guy had decided that unless he could have all 7 things she offerred it wasnt in his interest to collect.

she just mailed me saying some ignorant person hadnt been again and would my daughter (who had been very grateful for said shoes) like 2 barbie dolls and some clothes.

    what a nice woman.

Oh dear. I've had nothing but good experienced when I've freecycled. The last thing was a bed and afterwards I got a long thank you message from the guy about how he is running a housing project and the bed had gone to a young man to help furnish his first place. However, I am sick to death of the ten trillion a day emails I get (despite my attempts to unsubscribe) to the extent that I have abandonned the email address in question.

The freecyclers here are just lovely. One woman who had some things off me actually mailed me to say she'd seen a bathroom cabinet on another site (gumtree) and remembered I posted a wanted for one a few weeks earlier. And it is just perfect, such a nice thing for her to have done.

I think I've only had one collector who didn't send a thank you mail. It's a shame it's not done in the same spirit everywhere really, can't complain at all.

I had an email over the weekend in reply to an offer I made in May 2006, and another one today from the same woman about a bike I offered in July 2007. She was most upset that the items had gone.

I love the idea of Freecycle, and if I have stuff to get rid of, I'm sure I'll offer on it again in the future, it's just there are too many Freeloaders on it.

I had a sort out of my underwear drawer last week and got rid of a bag of maternity bras easily (ewwww, I know - used bras.......). So when I came across another bag of underwired bras that don;t fit anymore I freecycled them too. 12 replies in 1 hour - 3 from men and one with an email address of jackosexslave@............

I posted them to the most genuine sounding woman - didn't want any sex pests coming to the house to collect them.

Some Freecyclers really get my back up. Case in point - this morning, I logged on to see someone's 'wanted' post saying 'we are in desperate need of garden furniture'.

There are people in desperate need of suitable housing, jobs and cures for cancer. No-one is in desperate need of garden furniture. I'm really tempted to email people like that and tell them to f*ck off and stop being so bloody self-absorbed ?

My local freecycle is great, Ive only ever got rid of stuff though. They have a 'wanted wednesday' its the only day youre allowed to post a wanted and youre allowed one wanted a week. It works really well.

The stuff Ive offered have all been picked up at my convenience and the ones Ive chosen to give to all replied eloquently with good reasons for wanting the items. Im about to put some more stuff on there soon and Ive found it (so far) to be quite a good experience. I think it might come down to how well organised the organisers are though.

Well, I got an apologetic email from my no-show woman this morning (her excuse- "I forgot" ?) so shall give her another chance.

I wonder whether, because it's free, some people just say they want everything and then have second thoughts.

I've given up with freecycle because of the rude, the inconsiderate, the no-shows and the freeloaders. The best was when I gave away a load of stuff including a piece of exercise equipment I hadn't used for a year or so but had worked perfectly when I did (required reassembly). The woman who took it then sent me really obnoxiously worded email saying how one bit didn't work (although (a) I didn't know this and (b) based off what she said the problem sounded quite easy to mend), how I had deliberately wasted her time and that she was reporting me to the moderator.

I've only ever offered stuff on ours and it's been collected on time and gratefully received. I recycled some slabs recently and the chap who took them offered to come back and clear some garden rubbish for me saving me £150 quid for a skip. When I offered him money to cover petrol etc he declined saying it was not in the spirit of freecycle! There are some good people out there after all.
