Full birth certificate.

MischiefMumma, 15 October, 2013 at 14:38 Posted on Planning 0 12

Hi ladies,

Just a quick one, OH and I went to go to the registrar the other week and werent properly informed on what to bring. FMIL told me that she had given us OHs BC and had the full one should we need it. Anyway long story short, we didnt take our passports and we both had the 'wrong' BC because it didnt show our nationality on it. When I spoke to my mum about it she said thats all she was gievn when she registered me, does anyone know how we get the full BC?

You can order them for a small cost from here http://www.gro.gov.uk/gro/content/certificates/

Will your passport not be enough rather than having to get full birth certificate?

The full BC is the one with your parents names and details on, you also now need this when you apply for a job so worth ordering one

We gave notice yesterday, we had to take our passports, birth certs, and a utility bill dated within 3 months.

you had to take your parents bc if you didn't have a passport and were born after 1983.

id lost my BC and ordered one I think for next day delivery for about £25 from memory

Same here. My OH and I were born in 83/84 respectfully. We were told we must have either a full BC or a valid passport and our mothers passports or BC too. Also a utility bill for proof of address. Just had to order another BC. How they love to make things as simple as possible lol

We just took our passports and proof of address, we didn't need anything of our parents. Also yes you can order a copy of your full birth certificate, I only have the short version but looked into ordering my full one when we were considering getting married abroad.

Both me and my husband were born after 1983 and we just had to take our passports and proof of address.

Maybe different districts have different rules?

I think I'll prob just order mine now to be safe as I don't think they are that expensive. Then I know I've got it if I need it....

Yeap, our passports were enough as well.

Can you call / email the registrar asking if your passports would suffice? Smiley smile

Just ordered my birth certificate ladies and it was only £9.25 so for the sake of a tenner I'd just order one and then you have it should you need it at any point! I don't know why I never ordered a replacement one before now! lol. I guess I never realised how cheap it actually is!
