Fun things you do as a couple?

rah, 18 September, 2008 at 09:46 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 14

Hello everyone,

You may have seen my other posts and after a difficult few days this week I am starting to pull myself together (woo). My H is working away in the week and just coming home at weekends at the moment (which I'm finding quite hard), and I'm at the end of writing up my PhD and pretty stressed. So I think I really need a break at the weekends to spend some time with H and do something nice. So any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

We're thinking visit places/ the beach (we're Norfolk based) the cinema etc. But all suggestions welcome!

Thanks very much again!

?

If you are norfolk based, how easy would it be for you to get to Ely? How about a visit to Ely catherdral, including a tour up the octagon tower. Its really amazing. I know going to cathedrals isn't everyone's cup of tea but going up the tower for the panaramic views of the Fenland's is really worth it.

May not be your cup of tea but (depending on the size of your kitchen, it's annoying if it's too small) cooking together can be really fun and easy to organise, we used to do it heaps when we lived in an open plan place and always had heaps of fun.

A really long autumny walk together, away from noise and other people. We always have our best and most intimate 'hopes and dreams' type conversations, the ones where you reconnect ofter weeks of just doing your own thing.

Ely cathedral is beautiful isn't it? I haven't done the tour though that sounds lovely - great idea thanks.

Cooking is a good idea too, think I'll get the recipie books out and we can make something special.

Thanks both, and keep them coming!

If you're heading to the beach, how about buying a cheap kite and going to fly that? we used to live near the New Forest and we'd often go for a pub lunch on a Sunday and then go fly our cheapy little kites afterwards. It's just a little different, but we had lots of fun afternoons.

We love just going out for walks on our own in the middle of no where on the odd occasion that we get a day off together.

Occasionally we'll have dates too, where we get dressed up as if we were going out on a proper date and then we'll perhaps go to the pictures or out for a meal or something and try and not talk about work which is something that tends to appear in most of our conversations.

Mainly we just have time on our own, because it rarely happens so when we do get some time alone we love it.

Second kite flying and visiting something stunning like a cathedral.

I know it sounds silly but my H has started making us playing board games again - really good for giving you time to chat without any pressure, listen to music, and just having a laugh.

We used to play board games, too, though these days we tend to play Elefun or Fifi snap with Alice after dinner ?

Some nights recently we've played cards when Alice has gone to bed - money is pretty tight and babysitters hard to come by.

In the pre-baby days, we had a couple of books with pub walks and did maybe one of those a month. Ahhhh, the days of disposable income...

We like going to the coast with a picnic - OH makes 1/2 (normally savoury) and I make the other 1/2 (sweet) and we both have a surprise!

Or go to a farmers market - thats quite fun and tasty!

We used to go to Airkix quite often. It's expensive but great fun. You need to get to Milton Keynes though.

We spend most of our evenings and weekends together (with or without friends) and both get fed up with the idea of just watching tv and not talking so we always make sure we have fun things planned together.

    - We take snowboarding lessons together. It's such a rush and we talk about it loads just now, we're planning a trip to Canada in the New Year to go snowboarding. I guess any physical activity or sport would work.

    - We go to a yoga class together. Really relaxing. We walk home from the class on a high and spend the rest of the evening with chill out tunes on, cooking dinner then just chatting. My friends go to a Spanish class together and practice on each other, seems to have the same effect.

    - We have a LoveFilm subscription so try to have a movie night once a week.

    - We go out for breakfast together at the weekend. That way we're less likely to waste the day lying in bed (although we do that with the papers often too and it's bliss!)

    - We go hillwalking with the dog- we've bagged quite a few Monroes now (Scottish mountains).

    - Not so much over summer, but in winter we go swimming after work and race each other to do more lengths in 45 mins.

    - We go away for the weekend every 4-6 weeks. Not always somewhere expensive but just for one or two nights somewhere small and quiet to chill out.
