Gah, car boots

Sunset21, 31 August, 2009 at 08:06 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 14

I hate them but am doing one later with my mum and MissSun, MrSun is sick of hearing about it and I had a go at him because I really don't want to do it but someone has to get rid of all the junk we have about the house. He says take it to the charity shop but I just caaaaan't.

Pah.

Good luck, I did one a couple of weeks ago and it wasn't as bad as I expected it to be but I did find that people want something for nothing so if you really want to get rid i'd price fairly low.

Yeah, MrSun wanted me to take all of MissSun's old clothes but I can't bear to let her baby clothes go for next to nothing so i'm only getting rid of stuff that I don't mind not getting much for but is too good to giveaway/throw out IYSWIM

Would say that ebay is best for "good" clothes, I put a load of stuff on ebay to end the day before the bootsale so anything that didn't sell I could take to the bootsale, most stuff did sell. I got between 75p and 1.50 for kids clothes, it was one of the things that people didn't seem to haggle on. Hope that the weather is ok for you, its a bit grey here.

I've got quite a few dresses I was going to ask £1.50 for, tops etc. just 50p probably. I really hope someone takes the bleedin chocolate fountain that MIL bought me off my hands - do you think a fiver is too much to ask? Brand new in the box.

I love browsing at car boots but the thought of having a stall myself scares me a bit. I've been this morning to a local one that just does bank holidays and have come home with a brilliant haul.

We only stood one and it was horrible as they let stallholders in at the same time as the public so people were literally pulling things out of the boot-so rooode!
We are gradually collecting enought stuff to do another though, so next summer I think we'll be there again.
Hope you makes loads Smiley smile

Ooh what treasures did you get clair_de_lune? We went to one yesterday and came back with 8 DVDs (50p - £1 each), Nigella Bites cookbook (I can finally make ham in Coca-Cola!), a Noddy PVC apron and brand new Winnie the Pooh frieze for my niece, a telescope (sigh), a cine film projector (double sigh), and a light up globe (triple sigh!). I really should leave Mr G at home when I go, as he always has to take things to the extreme! Oh and some really 80s albums on cassette for 10p each so I can relive my yoof in my car on the way to work ?

Hope you're doing well at the boot sale Sun - I bet someone barters you down to £2 for the chocolate fountain...!

Yours sound really exciting compared to mine although I do love to hear about other peoples hauls. I got loads for the boy- a child's policeman helmet (with truncheon?), walkie talkies, a little folding deckchair for the garden, two dinky toy motorbikes (one free, the seller just wanted rid), some more sticklebricks and a frog umbrella. I also got a plain whicker wreath, which I am v. pleased with as I've been looking for something like that.

I want to know how much the chocolate fountain went for ?

My Mom is making me do one the weekend after next and my buttocks are already clenching. I'm actually quite scared, so I'm awaiting Sunsets update with interest ?

I did one with my sis the other week and bought some stuff off her ? plus some Creme Egg mugs and a brown Snickers mug and some Now CDs. I love getting old tapes! Gutted our 'new' van's tape player doesn't work; they never mentioned that when we bought it.

There always seem to be lots of chocolate fountains for sale at car boots.

I made the grand total of £15. I guess I could have spent that entertaining myself and MissSun for the afternoon though couldn't I? and I did get rid of the chocolate fountain for £4.

They advertised that booters shouldn't arrive and unload until 1pm but my mum and I got there at 10 to 1 and we just about got the last space in the field. It's so annoying because people are at you looking at stuff and asking how much things are before you can think and I don't trust anyone so i'm trying to keep an eye on stuff whilst setting up IYSWIM Some old lady bought 4 lovely dresses of MissSun's for £6 the lot. She got herself a bargain there.

Anyway, i may do more because I have all this baby stuff to clear but I'm going to put everything on hangers, maybe try and find a rail, and price everything beforehand.

Oh dear, not quite able to retire yet then! at least you got £4 for the fountain, not bad. yeah, people do tend to arrive much earlier than advertisers - both buyers and sellers. you're always going to get buyers poking around in your boot before you've unpacked, otherwise someone else will nab that original Picasso painting before they do! i would always at least make sure you have a price in your head before you get there for everything, even if you don't write it down - i can't be bothered to price things with actual stickers. yes a hanging rail is a good idea - be prepared for it to fall down though, am always seeing them collapse - doh!

my friend got a gorgeous cream Karen Millen coat for £3 the other week, I was squealing with jealousy! the stall was run by a mother and daughter, and I think the mother severely mispriced it - bet her daughter wasn't happy when she realised...!
