Gah! Just quit my job without a new one to go to ... UPDATE

BarcaGirl25, 3 June, 2014 at 12:28 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 19

Hello! Haven't been back since my wedding/honeymoon ... it's been mental here back to work and my depression is really bad at the moment.

And in the meantime ..... Just quit my job without a new one to go to

Terrified!

I know, it's my own choice. Just needed to let it out because it's quite frightening. I am not happy in this job and I really don't want to do it anymore. Honestly I don't know what I want to do but I know it's not this. But I have a 3 month notice period and it's putting people off interviewing me so I had to get the 3 month period started, it's just freaking me out a little.

Update - I have a job interview Friday. Please can I have some famous otter vibes?!

Well done! It's a really brave thing to do, and ultimately your health is the most important factor in your life. I left a job a few years ago in similar circumstances and it's the best thing I did. My friends all started remarking on how good I looked, my skin was clear, hair was shiny and (from a male friend) "You don't have that dead look in your eyes any more" - I knew it had been the right decision!

It sounds as if it's not a spur of the moment thing, and considering your long notice period, it's the right choice to kick it off!

    Exciting times ahead for you.

Big hugs!!! That was brave, it isn't easy to contemplate a time with no job but if it helps kickstart you into another one and improves the depression then it's the right thing and the best thing for you xxx

Wow. I hate my job at the moment, but I really don't think I would be able to just walk out.

I know what you mean Pompey. If I'd only had 1 month's notice I would have tried to find a job before leaving but I don't really feel I had a choice.

I just wish I knew what I actually wanted to do with my life! But I have no earthly clue!

Hello! I remember a post a while back where you said you hated your job, you must be so relieved now. Good for you and I am sure you will start to feel better soon xx

I did the same a thing a few years ago and it was a truly liberating experience! I wasn't really unhappy in my job as such but I had a long commute so I wanted out and I also had a 3 month notice period. No job is worth staying in if it is making you so unhappy so well done on taking your first step out of the door!

Do you work in law or am I getting mixed up with another Otter? Do you want a complete career change?

Very brave decision. Hope you find something soon. Sometimes fate has a hand in stepping in anyway - I was made redundant from the last job I had which I hated. I still wanted to do the same thing but with a different firm and none were hiring at my level. Luckily the redundancy covered my salary for three months and the relocation to London costs.

I'm much happier in my current job. Just hate the commute (different thread!!).

Well done you! There is nothing worse when you get that dread in the pit of your stomach every morning before work. I hope you find something totally wonderful instead!

On the idea of not knowing what to do, try doing one of those online career choosing things aimed at teenagers. They're actually quite helpful for people of any age.
