Game of Thrones Fans (no spoilers please!!!)

Panjita, 24 July, 2014 at 12:10 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 16

I've not long finished watching Breaking Bad (I'm seriously missing it!!), so to fill the Heisenberg shaped hole in our lives, we have started watching Game of Thrones. I'm two episodes in and I am already a bit lost. Should I actually know wtf is going on at this point or will all become clear at a later date?

Also, I'm told that I will get into it and it's amazing, but I'm not really a fan of Roman/Medieval/Battle/Dragon type things so I'm not sure it's for me.

How many episodes did it take you before you were hooked?

I had no clue what was going on for the first few episodes. I liked it right away but I'd say it was about 4 episodes before it took over my life.

I occasionally read the wikipedia page for individual episodes (after watching it obvs) to help me along my way in the beginning.

Although I have read all the books so was a big GOT fan before I started watching the first series I didn't actually like the start of season one and it took me about half way through season one I think before I started to enjoy it. It is definitely worth persevering because season on season it just keeps getting better. In terms of not having a clue what is going on, I have watched it with a few people who have not read the books and a I think it is normal to be a bit confused at the start. Even when reading the books, which are obviously much more detailed and therefore easier to follow I sometimes have to check things out on Wikipedia to make sure I know who is related to who etc.

I've been told I will still love it despite not liking that genre though. Plus with Breaking Bad, it was probably Ep5 or 6 when I really got into it so I've said I'll give this 5 Episodes to really grab me.

The thing is, at the end of Ep1 I said to H "Was he f*cking his own sister???" and then he tried to kill the kid which made me want to watch Ep2. Then at the end of Ep2 the Wolf gets killed and the kid wakes up which made me want to watch Ep3 so i'm slowly being drawn in I think

If it's just the confusion from the plotlines, then stick with it - things do become clearer as the series goes on, including that incident with the child thrown off the tower!

Heh, I was just saying the other day that I can imagine dancing to the New Orleans Swamp Donkeys Jazz version (here if you haven't heard it) so it's not just you! Might give people certain preconceived ideas about your day though...!

I'm 2 episodes in myself, figured it's as good a way to spend maternity leave before baby arrives as any!

I like medieval dramas but like you am unsure of all the characters as yet but I'm sure it will come. I like it so far. Plus some scenes are filmed in NI which makes it a bit more interesting for me.

We're not having a medieval theme but I am walking down the aisle to an orchestral version of the theme.

I had read the books before so was pretty sure I was going to like it. It helped because I knew who everyone was and didn't have to spend multiple episodes working out who was related to and/or shagging whom. I'd give it a go for a few more episodes but don't push through the whole lot if you're not getting it.

The theme tune makes me think of school orchestras - when I was at school we were all playing the Jurassic Park theme, then Titanic, and the GoT theme has the same sort of feel to it. I'd love to go back to see if my suspicions are correct!

There are so many characters it is a bit overwhelming at first but as the show progresses they each get more screen time so you get to know them better,

In the back of the books they have all the family trees which helps identify the characters (not sure if you can view them online anywhere)

Oh generally hates medieval fantasy etc etc - but he absolutely loves it (as do I) - keep on with it and give it a few more episodes!
