General advice bout booking a tog....HIB's please feel free comment

kyla25, 25 February, 2012 at 14:22 Posted on Planning 0 7

Im trying to think of ways to save money (10k budget) All of the TOG's that Ive come across offer packages with a album and x amount of pics on a DVD but Im wandering if I could ask them to put all edited images on a disk so that when Ive more cash to make my own album up.....the packages I can afford, arnt really offering what I want......do you think it would be unreasonable emailing and asking?!

Any advice very welcome xxxx

We always only wanted digital only, we will make our own album up later. All the togs we saw offered a disk only package as well as album packages etc, so definately worth asking as most of them told us this seems to be the way wedding photography is starting to go , and that traditional albums from the photographers are starting to phase out as more and more people are sharing online via facebook etc instead

Many togs will do this although not all, so you would need to look around, although it shouldn't be too hard to find one. You should be aware though that a professionally created album is a work of art in itself and has a far better build than most online options. The longevity of the images in print form is imperative, so you would need to check if the images have archive quality.

I ummed and ahhhed a lot about weather to go for a disc only package or one with a wedding album. Originally I thought I'd just go for the disc, but when I saw just how gorgeous the albums my photographer offered, it just didn't make sense. You know you'll never do as good a job as he will.

My packages all contain all of the shots on a disk, both in web resolution and high resolution for you to print along with a letter giving you the rights to make copies. Some photographers prefer not to do this as they charge a lower "up front" price then charge for reprints. I prefer to charge a fixed one off price for each package. There's no right or wrong, just different ways of doing things. if you shop around, you should be able to find a photographer who will offer the shots on disk, or feel free to drop me an email :-)

What everyone else said. All of my packages are based on the hours I am at the wedding with the full resolution edited photographs on a USB and then albums are an extra which works as couples will often come back to me a few months or a year later (when their bank balances are a bit more healthy) for the album.

Most photographers would be flexible with their package so just drop them an email with what you are looking and see what they say. Smiley smile

    Hi Kyla,

Another option may be to go for a disc only package for your wedding day, and then you could buy an album from your photographer after your wedding day if you wanted to. Worth making sure that the images you'll be getting on disc are a high resolution so that they're good enough quality to make your own album / prints etc too.

Disc only packages are more and more common with togs. Out of 47 weddings last year I designed 2 albums, but I don't do album 'packages' and sell them seperately.

Hi Hun, its not such an unusual request! I cant understand why you havent found what you want - do ask photographers though, they may be willing to do a beposke package to suit you. I always offered a Digital package too - but I if I hadnt I would definately have considered it for a booking! x
