general worries / themes

Mrsdsoon, 22 May, 2013 at 11:27 Posted on Planning 0 10

Hi All,

I am finding myself getting anxious over the most silly things, to a point of being a total cow to my OH. We don't get married till Feb but i feel as tho i am so behind with things. I am worried that our day does not have a theme. Ultimately, our colours are silver with a hint of purple but that isn't really a theme is it ?

I am wearing (i think) a short knee length dress, my OH in silver grey, bridesmaids (tho not looked at dresses yet) in silver grey with purple shoes/hair accessories ??

Table names - we have thought of favourite movies as my OH is a huge film buff, but he came up with today names of flowers - he has bought me a single stem flower every week since we met, starting with a rose on our first date - the flowers vary from calla lilies to gerberas to roses to cabbage roses, but it is his thing that he has always done and says he will continue to Smiley smile

whats your thoughts on themes please ? does everyone have one ? do we need one ? is anyone else being a total cow to their OH for no apparent reason Smiley smile

Thanks everyone

Claire x

Awww, he sounds really lovely! Lucky you. ?

I have to say I really don't get the need to have a theme - our theme is 'it's a wedding'. ? Honestly I have been to tons of weddings and have never once noticed or cared whether there is a theme or not. It's one of those very 'bridey' things I think - so do it if it makes you happy and you have time but if it's stressing you out forget about it, it really doesn't matter.

We had a colour scheme but that was it.

Dont stress yourself out about it, its not that important!

I agree that a theme isn't completely necessary - we're not having one. It makes sense if something really jumps out at you and would be obvious to all your guests, e.g. 'he's Spanish so we're having a spanish theme', or 'we love travel so we'll have a travel theme'. But I wouldn't worry either way. I do like the flower names for your tables though. So often i hear of OH's not really having an interest in decor, etc. so I think that if he is proactively having an opinion on it, you should go with it (if you like it too!). Have you thought about having a specific fower arrangement for each table, so the 'rose' table has roses, tulip table has tulips, etc.?

I love the flower idea, and so easy to incorporate into your centre pieces.

On theme though, our theme was "wedding" and we made sure we had lots of wedding touches through out the day. I do joke about it but honestly we just wanted a wedding that looked like a classic wedding - drinks, dinner, disco and some pretty nice flowers. It used to drive me mad that I spent a fortune on wedding magazines and in the end they were full of the same themes (vintage, art deco, festival, english garden, etc) and never once did they just do classic wedding.

My advice would be to pick a few colours you like and just go with it!

Don't worry, I'm not having a theme! I'm not sure why you need a theme?! Our colour is midnight blue but I'm only having that on my bridesmaid dresses and I'm keeping everyone else ivory (as I don't want it to seem to dark)! My flowers, chair covers, are all ivory and I'm just having everything candlelit! I'm not having table names either I'm just having numbers!

Sounds like we are doing nothing but I'm just wanting to remember that its all about the wedding and try and not get too bogged down with the things you think you should do. Hope this helps!

    xx

I am also stressing themes as I would really like a beach / seaside theme, but my colour scheme is burgundy red. I'm not changing the colour scheme though for the sake of some table names and maybe a few random beach-themed decorations. So... my theme will probably also be 'wedding, of the burgundy red variety'!

If you do decide to have a theme, make sure it's personal to you and OH, rather than just random, e.g. places you've been on holidays, or the flower idea you mentioned - that is sooo sweet!

This is the same for us! We have colours but don't have a theme as such!

No theme for me either other than 'wedding'.

You have 9mths more to organise, so dont stress over the time. I organised our whole wedding in less than 5mths from the other side of the world.

Do you even name tables names? Numbers work well too. I do like the idea of flower names though. There are many threads & pics online of themed weddings if you really feel you need one, other than just having a few key things incorporated. If you want keep the purple/silver theme, you could have silver vases with purple flowers are centrepieces.
