Getting Bridesmaid dresses made

drifter, 23 January, 2009 at 12:33 Posted on Planning 0 1

Right has only one brought the material and then got a seamstress/ dressmaker to make up dresses for their bridesmaids?

The colours I like are all in the shops now and I worry by the time I go bridemaid dress shopping in 2010 they won't be in fashion anymore, plus this way girls will get something that fits them all and can play with style for each.

So has anyone done this? would they reccamend it and do you know any good online material shops?

The only thing is, you'll need to know your payyern to know how much material to buy. We went to Leisceter to get ours, with all the sari shops thought it would be easy, but the sri legnths are the wrong width for dress making, luckily after a lot of asking rouond we found a tiny little shop like alladins cave, and managed to get real silk for a brilliant price. Can't think of their name though, sorry.

I'm doing this - my mum is an ex-dressmaker so she will be making all my BM dresses. Just need to settle on a dress pattern then she can get making! Google "wedding (or bridal) dress making patterns" and there are loads of sites with the main pattern brands so you can get ideas for what sort of dress you want. If you also do internet search for "duchesse satin" - this is what is often used for bridal dresses and again there are several online shops that sell it in a variety of colours and widths. (i havent actually bought from any yet but most of the sites prob have buyer feedback so you can see what other customers think of them)

Im lucky my mum can make them for me but i've looked in the shops and cant really find anything in the colour i want for my BM's in a style that would suit them all so this way they get something that fits them perfectly - and it will cost me a LOT less to buy material than it would to buy the actual dresses!
