Getting Married in Las vegas, do people still make a gift list?

jill.mcc, 14 June, 2010 at 16:11 Posted on Honeymoons & Getting Married Abroad 0 6

Hi Everyone!

I am getting married in Las Vegas in November 2010, it will only be my parents and In-Laws there. I am wondering, in this case do people still make a gift list and does it seem cheeky considering lots of guests will not be able to attend our wedding day?

Everyone not attending the ceremony will be invited to a party when we come home but I really don't want to create one and my guests think I am cheeky lol.

Thanks for reading!

Jill xx

Hello! congratulaions - whereabouts in vegas are you getting married? I went to my friends in the valley of fire - it was ace - we loved vegas so much we're going back for part of our honeymoon!

My friend who did it, did invite some friends but still didn't have a gift list...I asked what they wanted and she said nothing cos we'd come all the way over etc so we got them b&q vouchers as they were doing up their home. I think traditionally, a gift list is for wedding guests, so as you're not having any/many I don't know if it is appropriate, even though you're having a party.

Think a lot of people in this case make a gift list but don't send out the cards with the party invites. Then if people ask what kind of gift you would like you can say you are registered with _____. It might be a bit of a waste of time if nobody asks but your family are bound to at least, and I think others if they're not sure will give vouchers or money.

Good luck planning your fabulous las vegas wedding!

    Hey,

We're getting married in Sept in Las Vegas and organising a party back home.

It'll only be us, and my OH's sister and fiance in Vegas. We're not going to bother with a gift list or anything......

Where are you getting married? xx

    Thank you Smiley laugh

We are just going to get married in a wee chapel called the wee kirk, its the oldest one in Vegas! I had a look at the Valley of Fire one and it looks awesome, unfortunatley our budget wouldnt stretch to have a big one once we are there.

I am so excited about going now, people are telling me its either a love it or hate it place. How long where you's in Vegas for? We have a week there and then a week in San Fran and some people are telling me that a week is too long.

I think it may be easier on my mum if I make a list, that way if people ring her she can direct them there instead of being under pressure.

Where abouts in Vegas did you's stay?

Hope you have a great time on your honeymoon. When is it?

    xx

    Kirstin,

How is the planning of the return party going for you? I am finding it the most stressful bit lol. What made you choose Vegas?

We are getting married in the wee kirk on the main strip its a wee free standing chapel and looks great. Have you thought about your hair etc. do you know of any good hairdressers and make up places for the big day?

And do I see you are from Bonnie Scotland? Where abouts?

    xx

Hey, oooh I love the sound of your little chapel in Vegas - it's like LV cool but still chapel cuteness!

I know what you mean about people saying it might be too much, but personally I think you're spot on with a week in each. We had 6 days in vegas - 4 in san fran (second def wasn't enough) and I would have happily spent a bit longer in vegas - there is a lot to do for a small place and all the trips like grand canyon, plus the shows, plus the relaxing and enjoying cocktails by the pool, plus the gambling and most of all plus the fact that your wedding will be there as well! and you are bound to have some bits to sort before - so I don't think it is too long at all.

Before I went, it wasn't one of my 'must see' places to be honest, we went cos it was a good friends wedding, but we fell totally inlove with it - and we didn't even gamble! It just has such an amazing atmosphere, there is stuff for everyone, plus the hotels make you feel you are in luxury and staying somewhere really fancy even when you're not! Just wandering around is an experience in itself, going round the hotels, watching the bellagio fountains, climbing the eiffel tower, seeing the pyramids - it's very cool, very ott, but still very charming! If you get chance, 'old vega' downtown is really lovely - some nice hotels and 'proper' American diners, I really loved it there!

We stayed in the excalibur, near new york new york (we had a rollercoaster outside our bedroom window!!) It was one of the cheapest options but still really nice - the room had been refurbished and was so lovely. We then 'nipped' back when we went to LA the next year and stayed off strip in the platinum which was lush - we had a suite and balcony and it was just as cheap as excalibur but 5 min walk to the strip. This time my boyfriend has booked the vegas hotel as a surprise, I think it will be the mirage or ceasars palace (it was the only bit I'd let him sort as a surprise as I wanted in on all the other details, ha ha!) We will be there early September, we are going to Hawaii first, can't wait!

Do you know where you're staying yet in Vegas and San Fran? It's so exciting isn't it - is the planning going well? When do you get hitched? x

Well, as of yet Jill, I haven't started planning the return party!!! When I do though, it'll just be a bowling club, a buffet and a DJ! Nothing exciting! What have you organised for yours?

Ooooh, the wee kirk, how nice! I'm not really sure what do do about my hair - I'm worried I'll sweat all over it and ruin it before I get going! lol. Have had rec's for the Glam Squad (www.glamsquad702.com) but I emailed them over a week ago and have had no reply as of yet. Also recommended 'Deb' http://lvhairdoers.homestead.com/ but I haven't contacted her yet. Most do hair and make up I think.......

We chose Vegas, as we were already going there on holiday, and OH doesn't want "the big deal of a wedding" back here, so seemed like the perfect idea!!! What about you guys?

Have you got a photographer sorted out? We've just went for a basic package at the chapel and have booked photographer seperatley

I'm currently in Sunny Paisley! Are you a Scot too?!
