Getting married with Crohns/UC

mrsmiddletontobe, 24 February, 2013 at 16:28 Posted on Planning 0 8

Just thought it might be worth putting this topic out there, whether it's yourself that is diagnosed with IBD or your fiance.

How are you managing/how did you manage getting married and having IBD? Are you making any adjustments to your day? How are you coping with the wedding stress and trying to stay relaxed?

I have Crohn's Disease myself and I get married in 3 weeks so I'm interested in hearing from other ladies getting married or that have got married with IBD. I am very nervous about this ruining my wedding day and I'm still struggling to put on weight to fit in my dress too. I am trying my hardest to be as relaxed as possible but I am so nervous!! The biggest thing that is worrying me is the morning of the wedding, as I am going to be so nervous and I know this will play havoc on my bowels. Everything is going pretty well at the minute so I am optimistic.

xx

    Hello again ?

I have Crohn's, as I think I may have mentioned to you before. My plan is just to do as much as I can in advance, and not let anything stress me out too much. Easier said than done, but other than that, there's not much I can do. I'm more concerned about flaring after the wedding, as we want to TTC and I just want to stay in remission as long as possible to make that as easy as possible.

I think mentioned to you about the facebook group...there's a couple of girls on there with UC, as well. There's a few IBS sufferers too, who I know are worried about the day.

Yeah I am concerned about flaring after the wedding too, as I watched a four weddings where there was a bride with Crohn's who had to sit one out after her wedding because of all the stress of the day. Best of luck with TTC after the wedding, how exciting!

I have joined the facebook group after your recommendation. Can't believe I have spent 18 months of my wedding planning without Hitched and HOF!

    Hi

I fit into an 'other' category and still sorting out meds and such like from a big op I had a few years ago. I may be bothered nearer the time but just trying to treat it like a big party with all my friends. We're having our reception in the hotel where we're staying so I'm more relaxed about the toilet issue. I find that if I know what the toilets are like then I'm more relaxed lol Probably not much help to you, sorry.

I found your reply really helpful Smiley smile I suppose brides with any type of medical condition are in the same situation. I think that's a good way to look at it, our wedding is also at a hotel so that's a good point that I'll have access to my own toilet in my room- stalls make me feel so self conscious! I have a bit of a phobia about public toilets ?

There are so many unsafe but tempting options on my evening buffet! Must. Restrain. Self.

Sorry to hear that you had a flare on your wedding day. It is good to hear that you still enjoyed it though (goes off to read your wedding report) ? Everyone keeps asking me if the wedding is still going ahead (I had surgery in December) but I just tell them that there is no way I'm going to miss my own wedding day, even if I'm on my deathbed. Things are pretty good right now so if they stay that way then there will be nothing to worry about.
