Getting rid of MIL in NZ - anyone help?

Lady Lucan, 14 December, 2008 at 17:59 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 4

No not trying to bump her off ?

Off to NZ in 2 weeks and thought it was a good idea take MIL (she's lovely really). Anyhow, H is leaving us in Queenstown to walk up some hill or other which will leave me on my own with MIL. After 2 weeks I will have had enough so his trip is conditional on finding a trip to send her on during some of that time but I can't find anything.

She's very cultured, likes wine, art, history etc but I just don't where to start.

Does anyone know the area or can think of a trip?

TIA

Thats an easy one. speak to tourist info in queenstown and tell them you want to send her on a wine tour of otago. there'll be loads of options.

or send her to milford sound, thats a hell of a long day from queenstown - or doubtful sound (but you should go to DS if you havent been, its incredible - so send her to MS, and you go to DS ?)

I'd love to send her to MS on her own but we are going there to meet H after his walk.

Otago looks like a good option but how do we get her there? Ideally we want it all booked before next week - she is 72 so for some reason likes to have things booked in advance although we haven't actually told her we'll be packing her off ?

Would you say DS is unmissable then, we haven't really looked at that?

MS pales into insignificance compared to DS. to be honest, the drive to MS is more impressive than the place, but DS is vast. its almost prehistoric, and so calm, and wonderful. i ve been to a lot of places, so called wonders of the world and all that shit, and have to say that DS has been the most impressive by far.

Otago is the region, and queenstown is in Otago anyway. i ll bet tours leave from queenstown. as i mentioned, find the telephone number for queenstown tourist info and just give them a ring.

You could always send her up Bob's Peak on the Gondola (cable car).

I preferred MS to DS. Does that make me a heathen? ?

Sorry I got confused on the map. I thought the Otago Penninsula was where you meant so was looking at things around Dunedin and can't work out how best to get her there.

Looks like DS has made the final cut . Not sure whether to thank you or not ? - it sounds amazing. H is very happy anyway.
