Who popped the question - When, where and How?

Christmas Day 2006. We opened a present each together and the I saw a small box under the tree and thought '***' but I opened it and looked at the box, him, box, him, box and put it on my right hand as he didn't speak at all. Then he took my hand and said 'well actually I was thinking you might like to wear it on the other hand'....and the rest as they say is history.

How far along with planning are you?

I'm still having honeymoon blues but don't miss the planning one single bit.

What will the main theme for your day be?

Look forward to seeing how everyones plans come together. I'm a jewellery/tiara designer so I'm on the forum most of the time to help with jewellery/tiara questions but I also like to help if I can with any questions now that I've been through it all.

Congratulations, its such an exciting time isnt it?!

My OH popped the question 12th March on a skiing holiday. Unfortunately I ruined the way he was going to do it. He wanted to take me to the top of the mountain on our last day, unfortunately I was wiped out by a snowboarder 2 days before and was taken to hospital. I couldnt walk very far so couldnt make it to the mountain so instead he proposed on our balcony overlooking the balcony which was still romantic.

We are getting married 7th October 2011

We have booked the venue, caterers and photographer. We have asked all the bridesmaids and groomsmen, I know what bridesmaids dresses I want, what wedding ring I want and the tablecentres.

Dont really have a theme as such, colour scheme will be chocolate brown/cream/white

Aw thanks. It was a really simple design but I guess that was our main thing with the overall look of the day to keep everything simple and elegant. We had an additional tier for cutting so had a big fruit tier, big sponge and then the top one was chocolate. So yummy.

Who popped the question - When, where and How?
He popped to me, in our old house (the first one we shared together), about 9months ago. I knew he had the ring as he picked it up from the shop earlier that day. So i totally knew it was coming. I was waiting the whole morning, and he kept ''fake'' proposing just to tease me. Then i was running round the house half naked trying to find some clothes then i walked into the kitchen and there he was on one knee and then he asked. I obviously said yes and here we are today

How far along with planning are you?
We have booked venue(with catering), registrar, disco, photographer, choc fountain. Sent out save the dates (only got a couple to give out now). Sorted my dress (paid off half of it), made the kids activity packs & everyones place names.

What will the main theme for your day be?
A very vintage Alice in Wonderland, in dusky pinks & aubergines.

Who popped the question - When, where and How?
My Birthday 2006. He surprised me by booking the day off work and only told me as i was pushing him out the door before he was late. We had the day off as a family (we have a 4year old son who was about 10 months at the time. He had been nervous all morning and get adjitated (sp?) when i kept asking for my present. He kept saying 'not yet, its not time and i need to prepare myself'. We decided to tidy up and go out for the day. he bent down to pick up some toys and stayed down on 1 knee. Not the most romantic of propsals, escpecially when i knew it was coming.

How far along with planning are you?
Pretty much sorted. We just have flowers, jewellery, gifts and music sorted and i need to get my hen do organised.

What will the main theme for your day be?

I'm not really having a theme. But if you can class elegant looking on a budget a theme, then thats mine. lol

Who popped the question - When, where and How?

14th Feb this year, in bed! We had had a lovely weekend together-a meal at our favorite restaurant on 13th to celebrate our birthdays and valentine's day, and a day visiting our families on the 14th. He asked me if I'd like to have perfect weekends like this forever, and would I marry him. I obviously said yes, but because we wanted to tell our parents in person, nd for them to be the first to know I had to wait a whole week before telling anyone. T'was a killer!

When are you getting married? 19th Feb 2011

How far along with planning are you?
The only major thing we have lest to sort is bridesmaid dress, but this has now been chosen and being ordered on Saturday. I'm printing invites as we speak, ready to be put together over the next month or so. We also hope to have our food tasting over the next couple of months.

What will the main theme for your day be?
I want a warm wintery feel, so aubergine and ivory with pearls making an apperance in flowers, invites and other stationery.

My OH popped the question on Christmas day 1997 i was pregnant with our first baby.. We had been together for a year and I already knew he was the one I wanted to marry. He bought me lots of little present to open and when I got to the last one i opened it and though it was a beautiful ring(still no idea that he was going to ask) any way I thanked him for all the gifts especcially the ring then he asked me to marry him quite romantic i thought.

Im getting married on the 26th August 2011 (better late than never lol)

How far along with planning are you?

I have booked my venue ,DJ and church, booked the photographer, booked my cars and bought my dress. I have started to make my invites and have chosen the bridesmaid dresses.

What will the main theme for your day be?

I don't have any kind of theme. Just a nice day with my lovely H2B my two great boys and my family.

Who popped the question - When, where and How?

The fella, last week, on the beach whilst we were on holiday in Cornwall. He had meant to propose on our 3 year anniversary but that was the one day of the holiday that it rained! Poor thing was very quiet all day and I had no idea and thought he was just being moody. The next day we went to the beach, and he went off 'to explore the rock pools' while I was reading. On our way off the beach, he asked me to come look at something he'd seen earlier. We went off to one little cove and I was thinking 'this is all very nice but there's nothing here' - I thought the sun had gone to his head! He then presented me with a letter he'd written, three pages of all his special memories and how he felt about me. I was really welling up by the time I'd finished reading it - when I turned around to say something, he was down on one knee with the ring and had written on the big rock behind him 'will you marry me?'. *squeeeee*

When are you getting married?

Hopefully, 14 July 2012 - on our 5th anniversary!

How far along with planning are you?

Err not at all! I've begun to look at venues so I can get the date set and think about save the date cards but even that's difficult because I haven't settled on a theme/motif or colour scheme.

What will the main theme for your day be?

See above! I like the idea of a fairly traditional charcoal grey suits for the boys, ivory dress for me and dark red dresses for the bridesmaids with similar for the flowers - but I'm concerned that might be a bit 'heavy' for a summer wedding. Decisions decisions!

Proposal - on a go ape course just before the longest zip wire, i said only if you get me down from here without me going down the wire and he pushed me out! I said yes before the next one!

Wedding - 2nd of July 2011, FIL will be marrying us and then reception at the village hall where I grew up, so can have favourites places in my photos

well He proposed to me. We were out in Londonderry shopping for the day for his birthday (which was the next day), we went round the city walls for a chat. I was trying to figure out my annual leave for this year and our leave sheets had to be in! so when we were walking around he proposed, then phoned my dad to ask permission, then we went to the jewellers and picked my ring! We had to then make a pit stop in boots so i could buy nail polish remover to get rid of the hideous red nail polish I had on!! lol we then went for dinner and then home 2 tell my folks! They had got suspicious of the phone call my dad was soo vague about so had sat from about 6 til 9 waiting for us to come, scared to go to the toilet in case they missed something!!

We are gettting married on 13th October! 12 weeks yesterday!!

My OH did on on new years eve 2008. Our son was only 12 weeks old so we were having a quiet night in with a wee glass of wine (i was breastfeeding, i felt like a rebel ha ha). My OH gave me a wee envelope that said to my beautiful leah - i opened it and there was a little clue inside. I gave him the strangest look but he said just follow it. The clue was letters come through here so i went to the letter box and there was another clue. He had me on a treasure hunt all over the house till i went into the bedroom and there was a big teddy holding my beautiful ring. He got down on one knee and gave me a lovely speech, it was beautiful. I just sat that night staring at my beautiful ring while cuddling my amazing OH and our beautiful baby

OH proposed, we've been together 8 years and for my birthday did a bungee jump that we were meant to do together but had to do seperately on the day so OH had his filmed in which he left a lovely message and proposed. I didn't get to sit and watch his DVD until we got home and had a million things to do around the house until he told me to just sit and watch and as I did he got down on one knee and there was a gorgeous ring in front of me!!

May 2012 - I wish it could be earlier but it's taking us a while to save

How far along with planning are you?
Not very far, have the date and possible venue. Maybe even a colour scheme sorted - ivory and teal.

What will the main theme for your day be?
Vintage theme, lots of lace and pearls - not sure if that sounds really hideous or not but will just have to wait and see.

Who popped the question - When, where and How?

My H2B popped the question on Christmas Day 2008, which was our 1st Christmas living in our own home. He'd been scheming for my Christmas present so I had my suspicions but when I opened my present of a new digital camera I thought perhaps I had got it wrong! That is until I clicked on the play button and there were a series of pictures spelling out the message - Will Young for "Will", a Ewe for "You", Merry out of Lord of the Rings for "Marry" and a pic of the man himself for "Me" It was perfect, and very typical of his sense of humour! Of course there was lots of yes, yes, of course I'll marry you! Haha!

When are you getting married?

18th September 2010 - eek, only 8 weeks to go!

How far along with planning are you?

Obviously everything is pretty much sorted now, just final balances to pay and a few little bits and pieces to sort out like table plans etc. Hen day next weekend, woohoo!

What will the main theme for your day be?

We haven't a theme as such - just a colour scheme of Red and Ivory

Who popped the question - When, where and How?

In February 2010 my OH came back from 5 months in Afghan, before he went he had ordered a ring to be made to his spec and his dad was meant to pick it up so that he could propose at the airport when he got back! Unfortunately the ring was delayed so he didn't (Thanks god - I was crying enough just at seeing him!) and then on the Friday evening we were lying in bed, I was upset telling him now awful it had been without him, and he said that I was never really without him, and would I marry him.

I said yes, but insisted we didn't make it official until we had a ring and he went down on one knee, so we kept it a secret between the two of us for a whole week. Picked the ring up the following Saturday and he got down on one knee while I was getting ready for dinner - we'd got my parents down to meet his for the first time. We told them we had something to tell them.. My moms first word we "**** your not pregnant are you?" completely forgetting we'd not seen each other for 5 months so it wasn't possible. H2Bs hand were shaking bless him.

OH is in the army and wearing uniform so our theme is the red and Navy from his uniform.

OH did on Valentine's Day 2009. He'd been moody all morning on the way to the hotel we were staying at and I remember thinking I wanted to leave him at home if he was intending on being like this the whole weekend! ? Turns out he was just nervous though!

When are you getting married?

In 2 weeks! 08/08/10 (my lucky number is 8 so when I saw it was a weekend this year there was just no way I could entertain another date!)

How far along with planning are you?

All done! Which is good as there isn't much time left!

No theme but our colours are black ans white with a touch of hot pink.

he did, christmas day 2007, in the lounge. Handed me a box with the ring I designed 6 months previously. I was gobsmacked!

Got married on the 18th July 2009 now im here to offer OM (old married) advice and catch up with friends, I've done a year now so might be time to skiddaddle properly.

DIY has taken over the wedding planning. My house is strewn with Home magazines and I even have a House folder as opposed to a wedding folder. Sadly theres not one decent homes forum out there so I bombard you guys with my stuff.

Theme for wedding was 1940s. Love all thing vintage, from the 30s - 50s.

My OH popped the question in New York when we went for my 21st birthday, at the top of the Rockerfella Centre on February 5th 2009 I was getting annoyed that the pictures i was taking was reflecting from the glass that as protecting you from falling, so he said i'll take the pictures and you told this, it was the ring box and he asked me to marry him.

Hi Sarah - welcome!

My H2B proposed on his birthday last year. Every year when I ask him what present he wanted he'd always say "Just Josie" so that year he definately got me! He proposed after dinner in our fav park then a limo turned up and whisked us off to Florence.

We get hitched on 21st December this year - so the theme is pretty xmassy. But mostly just a cozy, happy fun filled day!

Planning? I now have less than 5 months to go and feel quite disorganised. I have provisionally booked florist and tog etc. Want to finish creating my invites.

My hitched activity varies - sometimes I can be on here everyday all week than other times the real world takes over and you won't see me for a good week or 2!

Good thread! Although its making me teary at work - not good when I'm trying to pretend that I'm doing work!

My OH proposed to me on April fools day this year. I got home from work, full of cold and miserable, to a house covered in candles and red roses. The candles led me a path upstairs to our bedroom and on the bed was an outfit laid out for me to put on. I did so, then went back downstairs into the living room, where OH was waiting for me dressed up in a suit and bow tie and had cooked me a lovely three-course meal! I had to wait until after dinner until he proposed but it was worth it! I wish I hadnt been full of cold, but he'd planned it for then as we were seeing both sets of parents that weekend!

We are getting married on 11th June 2011.

I've got the church, venue, caterers, photographer, cake, flowers, DJ and honeymoon booked. Ordering my dress this weekend! And my save the dates have all gone out.

we got engaged on 20th May 2009. well first he asked after one of our friends engagement party, he was drunk and we were lying in bed and he was like awe u were the most beautiful girl at the party i really want you to be my wife. I though yea yea ur drunk ask me again when ur sober! about a mth later he said we're going shopping i was thinking yay new clothes but no he took me to the jewelry shop he bought our first anniversay ring from and told me to pick a ring and then he took us up into the hills behind were we stay (we used to go up here all the time due to him working there at a fishery and us not having living together) and he got down on one knee and proposed lol wasnt the most romantic day but i loved it! He also called my mum the night before and told her so she was all excited the entire day! x

Getting married 27th May 2012, planned getting married on the 20th May as same day he proposed but couldnt get the date oh well!

Venue booked, registrar booked. Family friend doing photo's she an amatur so has done some weddings before. Mums friend is sorting our table decs. Been dress shopping but havent found the one yet, waiting til may to shop again as currently loosing weight!

Platinum and Pink is the colour theme so everything will be based around those colours.

he did, Feb 25 2010, we had a long weekend planned (we got a special deal at a hotel) so we were going thurs to fri.

I got home from work wed and he said that he had to pop into town in the morning to pick something up before we went, i just assumed that it was either something for his bass or his bike! so thursday morning he cyled in to town, 2 hours later he got back, by which time i was getting frustraited and was ready to leave.

he told me that it wasnt in the shop yet but some one is going to drop it off very soon at the flat! i was getting mad because we should have left by now so he told me that he had a suprise for me, half of it was waiting at the hotel, and the other half was what he was waiting for and he needed both haves!

this calmed me down slightly and also got me intrgued! anyway doorbell went he rand down stairs then back up and said "right we can go!"

we drove to a lovely hotel in the Cotswolds, went for a walk around the village (i almost blinded him with the umbrella!) then we got back to the hotel and got a drink in the bar. he disapeared then came back saying that the lounge was empty shall we sit in there. it was gorgeous, log fire, winged leather arm chairs and one of my favorite albums playing! I actually said "wow, what more could a girl ask for!"

we had been joking that as we'd been living together for a yea, i was due an appraisal, so he started asking me how i felt the last year had gone (i felt i was having a proper appraisal!) then he said he was vary happy and wanted to extend the contract but wanted to add a couple of conditions, he then bent down on one knee, pulled out a ring and said "will you marry me?"

I was in shock and actually said "im sorry, r u asking me to marry u?" i of course said yes, then eventually took the ring then after about 10 mins realised he was still on 1 knee!!!

the bar manager turned up about 20 mins later with 2 glasses of champagne as one of the waitresses had heared us calling people to tell them!!

How far along with planning are you?

we have venue, registrar, florist, found my dress and possibly b.maids but need to order. recruited out attendants, decided music and resding, meeting photographers next week! starting to get bits for table centres.

What will the main theme for your day be?

Dont really have one, bridesmaids on purple with pink flowers, tables are going to be very eclectic, kinda vintagy!

Well I am not exactly a lady but I thought I would answer the questions anyway.

Who popped the question - When, where and How?

I did the 16th September 2008, on our 4th year anniversary since we started dating. It was rather interesting to begin with. Me and my OH like to walk, especially by a canal. On said canal is an old Victorian bridge we have spent many a happy time under. On the day I suggested we go for a walk to that bridge ... but no, that was they day she decided she wanted to stay inside. To her constant grumbling and mutterings I basically pushed her out of the door ignoring her protests. Rather luckily it was a nice day and by the time we got to the bridge she was smiling. As we sat down she said something along the lines of she didn't know what she would do without me to make her go outside. Being a rather cheesy gentleman I replied with something like, 'Luckily you don't have to, you just have to say yes.' At which point I showed her the ring. Seeing as I am on here you can rather guess the answer.

Not even nearly as far along as we should be, we still can't decide on a venue. Rather luckily we do have about a year longer than yourself.

Gothic Medieval. We both are firm in the belief we were born in the wrong era.

Who popped the question - When, where and How?

My boyfriend Dave did. It was the day before our 2 year anniversary, he said we were going away for the night, I didn't know where and was told to book the day off work. On the morning he said we were going for a little wander and to 'stick yer trainers on' (it was November and muddy!) He drove me to my favourite place in the world, a park near where I used to live. It was 25 miles away from where we lived at the time, and I hadn't been in ages, but had taken him there not long after we'd met and we'd had some very special talks/moments there…We had a little poddle about and afterwards he told me he was really nervous as where he'd planned to propose was full of Mum's and buggys and dogs! However we wandered around and then when we'd reached this lovely little garden with a bench he sat me down and got down on one knee and did the deed!! It was very beautiful and special - he even quoted a line from our song in the proposal (said not sung!) and it was all very personal and special to us and I of course said a big fat yes!! We then went to London for the weekend without telling anyone we were engaged and had such a lovely, special time doing the stuff of romance and toasting our future several times a day!!

How far along with planning are you?

Not as far as I should be at this stage!

What will the main theme for your day be?

Just wedding really! We want a relaxed day with our family and friends, lots of chatting, dancing, wine and laughs, plus we are having the 'traditional' bits, which we both really love. We do have a sort of table theme to do with gigs / bands, as we love seeing bands together and do this a lot…Our tables are named after the favourite bands we have been to see and our table plan is being designed like a festival poster with our top table - Kasabian - as the headline act. Pretty Wild are doing this and we are very excited! Currently deciding on a song quote from each band to have printed on the table name, we love the little bits like that!

H2B popped the question on Christmas Day 2009, at home on one knee in front of the fire right before we had a champagne breakfast. I knew he was going to do it as I had already chosen the ring (control freak lol) but was still romantic. Spent the rest of the day asking people what they got for Xmas before flashing my ring back at them!

When are you getting married?

31 October 2010 Halloween! Only 3 months to go!

How far along with planning are you?

Pretty far along I think, venue all sorted just one more installment to pay, everything submitted to registrar and notice given, vows and readings written, bridesmaid dresses bought, get my dress back from alterations next week, have made buttonholes, got the centrepieces, just need to make the bouquets and go meet with the wedding planner to finalise arrangements and numbers.

What will the main theme for your day be?

Halloween! I didn't want it to turn into a fancy dress party so we are just having a subtle Halloween theme, pumpkin confetti, halloween sweets for favours etc and the venue is a gothic mansion to add to the atmosphere. Otherwise going for black and champagne colour theme, quite minimalistic and elegant (I hope!)
