Getting to know you....

Ohwhatatuesday, 1 September, 2013 at 17:10 Posted on Planning 0 73

I've been thinking about doing this for a while - I don't know whether there's another one somewhere but I thought it might be nice to have a mass introduction style thread. As people tend to introduce themselves once when they first join I thought it might be good to get to know a bit more about people where newcomers might have missed introductions etc or just missed posts and updates etc. I've started some qs below - some stolen from other threads where I thought they were good questions - feel free to answer as few or as many as you like or add some questions too. I've probably chosen rubbish questions so feel free to add better ones and I'll update my original post! OMs - feel free to join in too - it would be great to hear more about you and your day for us newer hitchers!

Month&year of wedding: May 2014

A little bit about you & your OH: We have been together for six and a half years – we’re very silly and have lots of fun together. We got engaged in January this year and have been planning the wedding ever since.

What made you join hitched? I’m very disorganised and indecisive and saw how much help other people were getting on here so thought I’d join in. I’ve gleaned loads of useful information so far and am really enjoying reading other people’s plans and getting to know people through here.

Why did you choose your username? Because I was stuck and it’s a song! Thinking of changing at a some point.

Five words to sum up your wedding: Full of things we like!

What are you looking forward to most about your wedding day? (Favourite part of the day for Oms): I’m most looking forward to the ceremony - the bit where we’re officially husband and wife. And then partying!

What’s your favourite purchase (so far)? All my brooches for my brooch bouquet – it’s been really fun hunting them down on ebay and at bootfairs etc and I’ve found some really lovely ones.

What made you choose your venue? We really wanted a barn and if possible somewhere that was exclusive to us and our venue had both. Also, because it’s not a huge wedding, we didn’t want somewhere where are numbers looked really small and our venue is quite cosy so it’s perfect! Everyone seemed lovely too.

What made you choose your dress?: It gave me an lovely shape – I didn’t think that was possible! And I really liked the cap sleeves – I hadn’t seen many lace dresses in prices range and hadn’t spotted any with sleeves like that so I was sold.

Song choices? (first dance/walking down the aisle etc): I haven’t chosen yet but interested to hear everyone elses!

Best Bargain (so far): It was my £7.80 shoes but I’ve since discovered they don’t go with my dress so I’m back to the drawing board for shoes and bargains!

Anything you've made for the wedding that you're most proud of? Not yet! But I hope there will be soon! We're making invites/the bouquet/table decorations etc so hopefully there will be lots of things in the future for flashes!

Month & Year of wedding: June 2014

A little bit about you & your OH: We have been together for just over two years after meeting through match.com. We live together with our beautiful [and mad] springer spaniel puppy - Barney ;-)

What made you join hitched? I've been wedding mad since before we even got engaged and it is nice to be able to talk about all things wedding with other like minded people ;-)

Why did you choose your username? It is a nick name that my OH calls me.

Five words to sum up your wedding: Seaside theme with fifties flair!

What are you looking forward to most about your wedding day? The whole day; finally being husband and wife and celebrating with our family and friends ;-)

What’s your favourite purchase (so far)? My pretty Irregular Choice shoes.

What made you choose your venue? I love the seaside, always have; being at the coast just makes me happy ;-) I also didn't fancy the traditional big hotel do and wanted something a bit different so love the fact our venue is a seaside café. It also has the added bonus of only being able to fit 50 guests at max capacity; I never wanted loads of guests as I am quite shy and aren't relishing the thought of being the centre of attention so this is the perfect excuse to stop the guest list spiralling out of control!

What made you choose your dress? I never wanted the big meringue dress and our venue has an 'aisle' that involves walking down stairs; so a tea length dress was perfect otherwise I'd probably end up flat of my face at the bottom of the aisle, lol. My lovely mother is assisting with the cost of the dress so I can get it made specially ;-)

Song choices? Processional; The Power of Love by Gabrielle Alpin, Signing the Register; Beneath Your Beautiful by Labrinth, Recessional; A Kind of Magic by Queen and First dance: Islands in the Stream by Dolly Parton.

Best Bargain (so far): Not sure I've found any massive bargains yet, ooops!

Anything you've made for the wedding that you're most proud of? I'm pretty chuffed with my felt and lace buttonholes but on the day I will probably just be admiring my bunting because it has taken me so long and felt like such a chore!

There is the brief introduction thread, but this is quite nice for people who have been here a while and Made Decisions!

    Month&year of wedding: July 2014

A little bit about you & your OH: We met nine years ago, crewing the tall ship, 'Tenacious'. Along with a couple of others on that voyage, we all said we would meet up again on a Caribbean voyage at Christmas. Fast forward one and a half years, and only I and OH showed up. And so we began... We will get married 10 years to the day that we met.

What made you join hitched? I wanted to come somewhere and talk weddings!

Why did you choose your username? The randomiser chose it for me

Five words to sum up your wedding: Scottish touches with sailing bouts!

What are you looking forward to most about your wedding day? My guests seeing the venue for the first time - we are getting married on the shores of Loch Lomond and the setting is completely stunning

What’s your favourite purchase (so far)? My placecard holders - shells!

What made you choose your venue? A friend of my mum's son had got married there so she suggested it to me. It was love at first sight.

What made you choose your dress?: I went into Monsoon 'for a look' 3 days after he proposed. (I'm 3' tall, so it was always going to be a challenge). They had a rack of girls' white dresses, all 50% off. I loved the layers of the skirt and will be taking it to a dressmaker soon to have the top designed.

Song choices? (first dance/walking down the aisle etc): Piped in, and we want 'Forever' by the Dropkick Murphys for our first dance

Best Bargain (so far): £30 wedding dress!

I'd never really thought of the introduction thread! I guess I thought it would be good to hear a bit more about people, especially where you might have missed introductions or details or people who have been on here a lot longer and talked about details a while ago!

Month & Year of wedding: May 2014

A little bit about you & your OH: We went to the same school since we were 4. Knew each other a bit in secondary and had some mutual friends. Sat next to each other in geography GCSE! Then when we were 18 we got together on a group holiday. That was 8 yrs ago now. This time last year he proposed on a beach in Wales in the town where my Grandma grew up and got married. It was very special. We've lived together for a few years, have a lovely home of our own and a beautiful collie dog! We have also now added two ducks to our little family! Smiley smile

What made you join hitched? It's nice to hear about what other people are doing and how they're getting on at the same time as us. Useful ideas and advice!

Why did you choose your username? I'm his brown eyed girl! Smiley smile Love the song and if it comes on we have a good sing and dance to it!

Five words to sum up your wedding: hopefully, fun times for all

What are you looking forward to most about your wedding day? The ceremony and becoming husband and wife! That's what it's all for. But I'm massively excited about it all

What’s your favourite purchase (so far)? I've bought so much stuff I can't pick a favourite, but most recent was a gorgeous little bow tie for our nephew. (Page boy) It's blue and red stripes, so cute!

What made you choose your venue? It's a barn on a lake, it's beautiful. It's on a farm with a gorgeous B&B on site with enough rooms for family and bridal party to stay. That was very important, so we could all have breakfast together the next day. It just felt right!

What made you choose your dress? It's totally different to what I thought I'd choose but I felt happy in it. I felt it flattered me, it felt comfortable and it has beautiful detailing on the back. It also has pockets which I love!

Song choices? Not confirmed yet but 'Here, There and Everywhere' as I walk in, 'Wonderful World' some point in the ceremony and first dance to 'Sea of Love' - followed by something bouncy! There's so many songs though that we love, its going to be hard to choose others!

Best Bargain (so far): I'm not sure. I suppose we saved some money having the wedding on a Sunday (bank holiday) so it's like a Saturday but cheaper!

Anything you've made for the wedding that you're most proud of? We're making a lot of stuff and I seem to start one thing then move onto something else without finishing! I'm really happy with our invites and favours so far. Also my OH has made our initials in big light up letters, circus style! They look fab!

    Nice idea :-)

Month & Year of wedding: April 2014

A little bit about you & your OH: We have been together just over five years. We met while living in a houseshare together and are like two peas in a pod, laugh a lot and just have loads of fun together, he really is my best friend and we never get bored when we are together. I like that we have our own interests and friends though - it keeps things healthy and interesting. Plus I still fancy the arse off him.

What made you join hitched? It came up in a google search and seemed like the busiest and best wedding forum!

Why did you choose your username? My OH used to have a habit of randomly picking flowers out of bushes and putting them in my hair, then he got me to listen to 'Going to California', as he is a big Led Zep fan and it all kind of linked in, so my username is part of the lyrics from that song which was a part of mine and OH's relationship

Five words to sum up your wedding: Fun, informal/relaxed, thoughtful, colourful, personal.

What are you looking forward to most about your wedding day? Becoming husband and wife, (hopefully) seeing our guests having a great time, the music, the party.

What’s your favourite purchase (so far)? Aside from the dress, I love my wedding ring, it makes my ER look even better.

What made you choose your venue? We decided to get married in Essex as we live in London, I am from up north, he is from Essex - we wanted to get married in a place special to us and my hometown is too far so we chose Essex. We thought a barn would be a great place to have our relaxed wedding. As soon as we walked in we fell in love with it.

What made you choose your dress? I didn't like it on the hanger and I kept telling my BM who was with me I didn't want a dress with a detailed top, although when I put it on it looked totally different and I loved it, it gave me a tiny waist and I loved the detail. Everyone else was making a fuss and saying how nice it looked too so kinda reaffirmed it for me.

Song choices? Processional; To Love Somebody - The Bee Gees. Signing the Register; Hold Me, Kiss Me, Thrill Me - She & Him, Got to be There - Michael Jackson. Recessional; Thank You - Led Zeppelin and First dance: Beneath Your Beautiful - Labrinth and Emeli Sande and Moon River.

Best Bargain (so far): Aside from the save the dates which were free from wedding chicks, I got a vintage suitcase from ebay (with added vintage station stickers including a crewe one which is where I'm from) for a tenner from ebay which will have props and fancy dress type accessories for the night do.

Anything you've made for the wedding that you're most proud of? The only thing I've made so far is the place cards which I am really happy with.

Month & Year of wedding: October 2013 (Next month... Eeeeeekkk!)

A little bit about you & your OH: We met at totally the wrong time, but it couldn't have been better.

What made you join hitched? Initially to get some inspiration from reports and OMs, then to occasionally join in the chatter.

Why did you choose your username? It is a nickname that OH calls me.

Five words to sum up your wedding: Amazing party with legal stuff.

What are you looking forward to most about your wedding day? Celebrating our love with all of the people who are closest to us.

What’s your favourite purchase (so far)? Argh, I can't choose. It's definitely either my dress or my shoes, as both took me by surprise in different ways.

What made you choose your venue? OH & I had been on a date there a long time before we got engaged, and upon seeing a sign advertising their wedding package, had joked that we should get married there if we ever did. When we got engaged, I curiously called to see if it was a real option. It was, we visited again and fell in love, and booked right away. We'd only been engaged about 2 weeks.

What made you choose your dress? It felt right. When I tried on more traditional dresses, I found fault with each one. Then when the shop assistant appeared with my dress, I just couldn't. It was like it was made for me. A skinnier version of me, but me nonetheless...

Song choices? Bridal entry: 'MmmBop' by Vitamin String Quartet; Signing of the register: A TBC piece on the flute, and 'Build me up Buttercup' by The Foundations (sing-a-long style, played by a friend on the ukelele); Exit: 'All I Want Is You' by Barry Louis Polisar

Best Bargain (so far): I found my wedding shoes on EBay discounted to £45 from around £150. They're gorgeous (if I do say so myself...).

Anything you've made for the wedding that you're most proud of? I'm not particularly into the whole DIY thing, but I have made our seating plan, and think it's rather lovely!

    Month&year of wedding: August 2011

A little bit about you & your OH: We Are Scientists.

What made you join hitched? Someone promised that I'd get good banter.

Why did you choose your username? Popular culture reference that included would be surname.

Five words to sum up your wedding: Glamorous Indie Rock And Roll.

What are you looking forward to most about your wedding day? Most looked forward to: sunny afternoon drinking in garden. Actually most enjoyed: the ceremony.

What’s your favourite purchase (so far)? Dress.

What made you choose your venue? Food. Decor.

What made you choose your dress? The back.

Song choices? (first dance/walking down the aisle etc): Tender/Blur (aisle), Movin' On Up/Primal Scream and One Day Like This/Elbow (register), Touch Me/The Doors (exit and high fives), Hotel Yorba/White Stripes (first dance), Wrong 'Em Boyo/The Clash (second first dance), Champagne Supernova/Oasis (night end).

Best Bargain (so far): I am far too lazy to hunt out bargains.

Anything you've made for the wedding that you're most proud of? Stationery, brooch bouquet.

Met online, he knocked me up, figured we'd best get Hitched.

    Joined Hitched for the banter.

No idea why I chose my username. Was so long ago.

Favourite purchase was my Hello Kitty cake topper. It cost more than my dress.

Chose the venue because it was cheap.

Chose my dress because it was black and purple.

Best bargain, was my whole wedding. Done and dusted for under £500.

I made my unofficial page boys... They were pretty damned cute.

    Month&year of wedding: April 2012

A little bit about you & your OH: met in horrible meat-markety bar in 2008. I got so drunk I missed my last train home, cried and had to get my dad to pick me up. He was French (still is) and I still get excited to come home to him each day. Moved in 2010, engaged in 2011 and married 2012. Some thing my H is brave as I'm a divorce lawyer

What made you join hitched? probably looking at venues as I looked at 15-20+ IRL before I found our one. Although I didn't really discover the fun of hitched until after I was married,

Why did you choose your username? Boring name and initials. Didn't occur to me to think of anything quirkier

Five words to sum up your wedding: French/English (claiming it as one word), drink, food, magic, lux

What are you looking forward to most about your wedding day? Just how much I enjoyed and loved every single moment. I didn't expect to enjoy it (I thought I'd be stressed and feel like I was hosting, and conveniently forgot I was paying people to do that kind of stuff for me . Think my fave moment was walking up and down Westminster/Parliament Square and having hundreds of tourists take our photos and shout congratulations!

What’s your favourite purchase (so far)? probably my dress and my photobooth. Photobooth was the first thing I decided I wanted.

What made you choose your venue? Loved our venue (one great george street) . Looked at 15/20+ and turns out Im the fussiest bride in the world when it came to venues and this is the one I walked out of grinning.

What made you choose your dress?: I felt like a princess and gave me a tiny waist. Also very sparkly. I love detailed dresses. Again, tried on million of dresses and went to about 10 different shops.

Song choices? (first dance/walking down the aisle etc): ahhh cliche pachobell but I had such an emotional reaction to it when I was looking for songs and sounded beautiful with our string quartet.

Best Bargain (so far):ahhh don't thnik igot a bargain at all. Maybe BM dresses, got them for £80 from highstreet rather than Dessy £250 plus

Anything you've made for the wedding that you're most proud of?

ha no, again I paid people to do this for me and not artistically creative at all

    Month&year of wedding: June 2014

A little bit about you & your OH: We've been together 6 years in November. We have two very young children together. Got engaged in July on my birthday. Don't want to sound soft but he is the most thoughtful, kindest man I've ever met and he makes me very happy. We have a good laugh too Smiley smile

What made you join hitched? I was googling something for the wedding and that subject was in a thread on here, it seemed a nice place so I joined.

Why did you choose your username? Just my name and date on engagement!

What are you looking forward to most about your wedding day? My dad walking me down the aisle, seeing my OH at the end and getting married. Having a good dance in the evening.

What’s your favourite purchase (so far)? We're right at the beginning of planning so haven't got much yet, my dress is my favourite purchase. I'm not sure that can be beaten anyway?

What made you choose your venue? We'd been there for dinner a few times and always liked it. We always imagined we'd get married there. A boutique hotel in the forest.

What made you choose your dress?: I liked the material, then I tried it on and felt comfortable, confident and happy with my figure which is rare!

Song choices? (first dance/walking down the aisle etc): Michael Buble's version of "That's All". We decided that years ago. The lyrics suit and then we got engaged just before going to see Michael Buble live

Best Bargain (so far): £50 for my chapel veil and hoop skirt. Including delivery and customs.

Anything you've made for the wedding that you're most proud of? Not got that far yet but hope to make invitations, flowers and possibly cake myself (with help from relatives) and possibly more.

A little bit about you & your OH: I'm 24 and Tom is 28, we have been together for 5 years, living together for 3 an a half. We got engaged at home in Surrey to music and a candlelit dinner with our new kitten trotting around in the background in November 2012. He is into biking, road and mountain biking & owns his own shop. I am a nanny and nursery assistant and hope to one day become a police officer.

What’s your favourite purchase (so far)? My wedding dress! It's beautiful! And do exciting finding jewellery to go with it!

What made you choose your venue? We loved somewhere local with accommodation for the family. It has a spa gym and restaurant so was perfect as that's all included in their hotel bill :-) its a golf course manor hotel with lots of green for photos!

What made you choose your dress?: the see through lace top half made my bone structure look elegant as I'm fairly broad. I loved it so much you could see the smile on my face light up more so than the other dresses.

Song choices? (first dance/walking down the aisle etc): we haven't decided

Best Bargain (so far): Freshwater pearl earrings for £15 as my earrings for the day :-)

Anything you've made for the wedding that you're most proud of? Not yet! But I'm making a 4ft willow heart entwined with organza ribbon and flowers. And my table plan I'm making.

What made you choose your dress?: I haven't yet but I am considering a tea length so that it doesn't collect twigs and leaves in the woods.

Song choices? (first dance/walking down the aisle etc): Walking in to 'Aerith's theme' from Final Fantasy VII, first dance to 'These Arms of Mine' by Otis Redding.

Best Bargain (so far): We have a friend who wants to design all of our stationary for us, free of charge Smiley smile

A little bit about you & your OH: I'm Canadian, he's English, met in 2010 about8 weeks after I moved here, and now have a lovely labradoodle named Wispa.

What made you join hitched? I neede help finding venues and dresses and all things wedding, joined the forums because it looked like a fun way of not driving everyone I know insane talking about wedding plans.

Why did you choose your username? I love Venice and I love art.

Five words to sum up your wedding: castle wedding of awesome proportions

What are you looking forward to most about your wedding day? (Favourite part of the day for Oms): I loved it all. I think I loved going to bed at the end of the night the best, though.

What’s your favourite purchase (so far)? All the cakes.

What made you choose your venue? Umm, it's Hever Castle! But I suppose it was a mix of them doing everything for us, having accommodation on site, and being fricking gorgeous.

What made you choose your dress?: Ifell in love with a Stewart Parvin dress I couldn't afford, so I went and bought a BHS dress, lace, and tulle, and had a dressmaker mock it all up for me. It was gorgeous.

Song choices? (first dance/walking down the aisle etc): I walked in the a vitamin string quartet cover of 'in your eyes', and we walked out to vsq cover of 'Solsbury Hill' and had our first dance to a Peter Gabriel cover of 'Book of Love'

Best Bargain (so far): It has to be my dress. The original Parvin dress would have cost me over £8k, and my dress cost about 1/10th that.

Anything you've made for the wedding that you're most proud of? I made a fabric flower bouquet I ended up not using!! But then I made my fresh flower bouquet and it was amazing. Also made the table plan, the table decorations (flowers and candles in teacups)

    Month&year of wedding: July 2014

A little bit about you & your OH: We met when I was 16 and have been inseparable ever since. Love watching family guy before bed and dancing to Christmas CD's all year round.

What made you join hitched? I love talking about weddings....seemed like a good place to find myself.

Why did you choose your username? Because we are ?

Five words to sum up your wedding: Friends, family and very us.

What are you looking forward to most about your wedding day? Seeing OH in the church and having a big party.

What’s your favourite purchase (so far)? My irregular choice shoes.

What made you choose your venue? It is a little bit both of us and ticked one of our 2 major boxes (to have everyone there).

What made you choose your dress?: It is the only one I have ever tried on and I have been able to customise it to my style.

Song choices? (first dance/walking down the aisle etc): Van Morrison - Have I told you lately (on piano) and Newton Faulkner - Dream Catch Me (played by our band)

Best Bargain (so far): Everything...but mostly my £72 dress.

Anything you've made for the wedding that you're most proud of? I love my jars that I have lovingly decorated with lace, but I was pleased with the outcome of the save the dates as A LOT of effort went into those.

What made you join hitched my sister was a member before her wedding nine years ago and got loads of help and support. She is still friends with some of the people she met here now

Why did you choose your user name its my user name for everything because I have a terrible memory!

Five words to sum up your wedding budget, romantic, family oriented, celtic themed and longed for

What are you looking forward to most about your wedding day becoming mrs Austin!

What is your favourite purchase(so far) my dream dress!

What made you choose your venue? not only is it excellent value for money but it is a place I grew up seeing on a weekly basis. When I was at school I used to walk past it every day on my way home

What made you choose your dress? it is the style that suits me best (doesn't make me look like a small dumpy bag of spuds!), has the burgundy hints I wanted and cost me only £100

Song choices (first dance/walking down the aisle etc) Better by Tom Baxter for dance and aisle because its 'our song', the words mean everything to us. Havent chosen the others yet

Best bargain (so far) has to be my dress!

    Month&year of wedding: May 2014

A little bit about you & your OH: Been together since Dec '07, living together since '09, had a baby in '11 and lived with my parents for a YEAR while renovating our new house in the sticks (used to live in London)

What made you join hitched? I have no idea about wedding stuff - and I'm addicted to asking billions of questions now!

Why did you choose your username? It's my standard online username Smiley smile

Five words to sum up your wedding: relaxed, quirky, fun, celebration, Wonderland! (as in Alice)

What are you looking forward to most about your wedding day? Having all my friends and family in one place and being able to spend time with them, as we are normally scattered across the globe!

What’s your favourite purchase (so far)? My diamond for the ER, hehe! And a teacup with sweetpeas on it for a centrepiece Smiley smile

What made you choose your venue? We didn't want a particularly 'weddingy' wedding, so tried to avoid all venues with marquees etc and look at barns and the like. And of course it looks like we will end up at a manor house with a marquee! It was one of the first venues we saw and have been back twice - mainly for the grounds and the fact that it has the most beautiful accommodation on site, meaning our little girl and her two little cousins can be near us when they go to bed Smiley smile Hopefully confirming and booking it this week! Eeep!

What made you choose your dress?: Haven't picked one yet! I'm trying some on for shapes this week, but am getting mine made to my own design - all I know is that it's not going to be white - most likely grey with some dusky pink somewhere. I like more textured, slightly off-the-wall dresses like Vera Wang Fall 2012 range

Song choices? (first dance/walking down the aisle etc): Haven't got a scooby-doo; thinking I kinda fancy going old school with 'Here Comes the Bride' haha!

Best Bargain (so far): Tricky - I love a bargain! I'm a jeweller, so our rings are all at cost, which makes them pretty good value (around 1/3 of the high st prices) and I have contacts with a bridal factory so my dress should come out pretty bargainous Smiley smile I'm getting all the centrepiece stuff via carboots and eBay, so hope to score some bargains there too! Smiley smile

Anything you've made for the wedding that you're most proud of? Only made our STDs so far, but will be doing all the decs, bouquets and flowers (taking a flower arranging course!) and prob invites and stationery. Oh and designing the rings and the dress! Smiley smile

    Month&year of wedding: July 2016

A little bit about you & your OH: We met at work, engaged November 2012 and when we get married we'll have been together exactly 6.5 years Smiley smile

What made you join hitched? I joined before we even got engaged, because we had discussed it and knew it would be happening. I'm far too organised and this seemed the perfect place to get the wedding talk out of my system without boring people!

Why did you choose your username? Combination of my name and an old username of mine.

Five words to sum up your wedding: Too far ahead to tell!

What are you looking forward to most about your wedding day? Walking down the aisle!

What’s your favourite purchase (so far)? We're too far away to have bought anything yet!

What made you choose your venue? In all honesty there isn't all that much choice in our area but there is something about the venue that (I think) we're going for that just really clicked with me, hard to explain.

What made you choose your dress?: Not chosen yet but the style I want is mainly due to me wanting something that is very 'I will only wear this once, it's the only chance I'll get to wear a dress like this' if that makes sense

Song choices? (first dance/walking down the aisle etc): I want to walk down the aisle to Canon in D and our first dance will be a slow version of 'Down' by Jay Sean which has meaning for us.

Best Bargain (so far): See above

Anything you've made for the wedding that you're most proud of? Not yet, but I plan to do lots of DIY when the time comes

    Month&year of wedding: May 2014

A little bit about you & your OH: met on a drunken night out with friends when I was 18 and he was 21(known to my friends as 'brace night' as my friend had just had her braces removed!!) Moved in after a year together (of which 6 months I upped and left for a job a reasonable distance away but quit the job to come home as missed him... *cheese*) He went and broke his leg playing football almost straight away and I supported him for 6 months while he couldn't work. Have now been together for almost 8 years because I was such a saint. He proposed last Feb... chose to have a long engagement to organise the wedding with little stress about time/money... which so far has proved to be an excellent idea! the wedding is saved for in an ISA with 8 months to go and we have had zero stress so far! yay!

What made you join hitched? i first found hitched when looking at all the venues around my area and getting 80 (yes 80!!) brochures delivered to my door...After looking around and seeing the forum and the good advice I joined. I now truly believe i have learnt so much more sbout organising a wedding due to this forum! From hand tying ceremonies, to name changing protocol, dress shopping ideas and inspiring flashes - I heard it all here first!

Why did you choose your username? My original username was a bit obvious as many friends got engaged and was scared they would find me on here and see my dress. New username slightly more coded... only my very close friends call me this!

Five words to sum up your wedding: Barn, BBQ, Daisies, Accoustic and RELAXED! (i hope!!)

What are you looking forward to most about your wedding day? Walking down the aisle, seeing Nick for the first time and saying my vows. (hopefully without crying my eyes out which I almost definitely wll)

What’s your favourite purchase (so far)? I love it all but my shoes are my most exciting purchase - like nothing else i have seen and completely me.

What made you choose your venue? it is a gorgeous bright barn, with just enough room but not too much, and accommodation for up to 60 people on the grounds. Also no corkage. Saw ten venues and we saw ours third... we knew after that no others were as good.

What made you choose your dress?: I tried 8 dresses on before I tried on 'mine'. I then tried another 15 dresses on after just to be sure. It's the only dress that I felt truly comfortable in.. it's so floaty and light and it's also one of the few I could walk in! And it was under budget! No other dress has or will compare and I haven't wobbled once!

Song choices? (first dance/walking down the aisle to etc) Walking down the aisle to Better Together by Jack Johnson (Hawaian Slack Key Kings version) then we have an assortment of Mumford and sons songs to choose from, all just the melody either piano or strings. And maybe accoustic Mountains by Biffy Clyro. First dance is 'the girl' by city and colour.

Best Bargain (so far): Our TOG. We are paying £500 due to them still building their portfolio as they are our age but every wedding they have covered since we booked them I just love their style of photography and the pictures look so gorgeous. They put all the edited pics on facebook and I love them all!

Anything you've made for the wedding that you're most proud of? so far all I have made are the save the date magnets which I am proud of because I am not artistic in the slightest!!! Next up will be imvites, table numbers, name place settings and seating plan. that's it for the homemade tasks!! that is plenty!!!

A little bit about you & your OH: We met at work - he's a chef and I'm a receptionist in a country house hotel.

What made you join hitched? To get ideas.

Why did you choose your username? I wanted something short and changed it from one that had my name in.

Five words to sum up your wedding: Exactly how we wanted it.

What are you looking forward to most about your wedding day? I loved having everyone around enjoying the day. Oh, and getting my hands on a much-needed Pimms the minute we got outside after the ceremony.

What’s your favourite purchase (so far)? I don't think I had a favourite.

What made you choose your venue? Location (it's by the sea) and the decor. I didn't look at any other venues.

What made you choose your dress?: It looked good and was within budget

Song choices? (first dance/walking down the aisle etc): 1st dance - Kings of Leon (Use Somebody) and the only other one I can remember is the Glasgow Love Theme from Love Actually was played during the signing of the register. I've forgotten the rest!

Best Bargain (so far): I got a good deal from the florist.

Anything you've made for the wedding that you're most proud of? I didn't have the skills or patience to make anything.

A little bit about you & your OH: We've known each other for 10 years from school and have been together 5 years, getting married on our 6 year anniversary.

What made you join hitched? I used the main site to look for venues and drifted over here ?

Why did you choose your username? Blossom is OH's pet name for me and my married initial will be J.

What are you looking forward to most about your wedding day? The 'I do', the speeches & the honeymoon (after)

What’s your favourite purchase (so far)? My save the dates, haven't bought much yet.

What made you choose your venue? It was one of the cheapest we could find with gardens, which both me & OH wanted. We also wanted somewhere we could have ceremony & reception all in one.

What made you choose your dress?: It was the only one that didn't make me feel like a little girl dressing up in my mum's clothes!! The price helped ?

Song choices? (first dance/walking down the aisle etc): First dance: Can't Help Falling in Love by Ingrid Michaelson. Walking down the aisle: A Thousand Years by Christina Perri (played by string quartet). Signing the register: How To Save a Life by The Fray (string quartet). Exit song: You're My Best Friend by Queen (string quartet).

Best Bargain (so far): My dress, which was £400.

Anything you've made for the wedding that you're most proud of? I'm in the process of making my invites & hoping they will be something to be proud of.

    Month&year of wedding: April 2015

A little bit about you & your OH: We got together in 2007 and got engaged Xmas 2011. Wedding was booked by march 2012, it seems to be taking forever to come round! I'm a registered vet nurse and oh is a postman.

What made you join hitched? I joined because I wanted somewhere to go for advice and to chat to other brides.

Why did you choose your username? I'm 4'11" and my name is Sally, therefore Icklesal

Five words to sum up your wedding: good food, good company, love

What are you looking forward to most about your wedding day? My oh seeing my dress, the first kiss and dancing the night away with my new hubby

What’s your favourite purchase (so far)? My dress, it's amazing! Total bargain too!

What made you choose your venue? I've loved our venue for a long time and never thought we could afford it. Oh fell in love with it too! It's perfect for us, we had to make some sacrifices in order to afford it but its worth it.

What made you choose your dress?: it's different. I didn't want anything similar to other brides dresses I've seen at weddings. I originally wanted an enzoani dress but when I was introduced to terry fox I fell in love! I feel fab in my dress!

Song choices? (first dance/walking down the aisle etc): I want to try and get an instrumental version of Jessie by Joshua kadison, to walk down the aisle. We both love this song but its not really a good choice for first dance. First dance is take that rule the world.

Best Bargain (so far): Flower girl dresses £10.80 or half price terry fox gown (eeeek!)

Anything you've made for the wedding that you're most proud of? So far I've only painted a S & K letters white, plan to decorate them. Not exactly proud of it but its all I've done up to yet.

    Here goes...

    Month&year of wedding: April 2014

A little bit about you & your OH: We met online and have been together for just over 5 years and lived together for four. He FINALLY popped the question in Feb this year in the Blue Lagoon in Iceland.

What made you join hitched? So I don't drive everyone else mad with my wedding talk, and so I can get some great advice from fellow B2B and OMs to help make my choices.

Why did you choose your username? Boring I know but it's what I'll be when I'm married and I couldn't think of anything else. Might change it at some point if I can be bothered.

Five words to sum up your wedding: It's finally happening to me!

What are you looking forward to most about your wedding day? (Favourite part of the day for Oms): Too many parts - the band, the cheese tower, listening to our friend do the funny reading, but most of all having everyone we love in one place and (hopefully) having a good time. And getting married of course, but I'm quite nervous about the church bit too, everyone watching us, and I'm not normally a shy person!

What’s your favourite purchase (so far)? This is hard as I haven't bought many physical things yet. I love the back of my bridesmaid dresses and the flower girl dress is lush. The photographer is also fab and I'm drooling over the Queensberry albums I might have.

What made you choose your venue? We originally wanted a field and a country fete type wedding. Unfortunately due to a disabled MIL we needed somewhere with accommodation or somewhere she could lie down. Everywhere that fitted that bill and was in a reasonable distance from our church was very expensive. Ironically the venue we eventually choose I'd looked at many years ago as they did last minute deals which were very reasonable. It's a little hotel with 21 rooms and I love everything about it, except for the restaurant area which is OK but not exactly as I originally wanted. It's very Cotswoldy old fashioned and the restaurant fits in with the hotel but I originally wanted marquee with bunting so have had to move that to the summer house outside for the drinks reception instead.

What made you choose your dress?: I tried on soooo many dresses and went to so many shops. I was waiting for 'that moment' when I cried or knew I didn't want to try on any more. I didn't really get that but in the 11th shop I tried on a dress that ticked all the boxes - lace, sparkly, scalloped bottom, slim fitting, puddle train and interesting back. I knew it was 'the one' because I was happy to buy it without going back to try on the other two main contenders.

Song choices? (first dance/walking down the aisle etc): I haven't chosen yet. We're getting married in church so it'll probably be traditional organ music rather than anything modern. First dance OH is choosing with the cavet it isn't mushy and we don't have to shuffle around the dance floor. Current favourite is 'born to be my baby' by Bon Jovi, which is apt as we've been to see them in concert too. I want to try and shove in the song from Romeo and Juliet (don't know the name) too.

Best Bargain (so far): Not a lot has been a bargain so far....perhaps my £1 wicker wand for the flower girl.

Anything you've made for the wedding that you're most proud of? Not made anything yet but plan on bunting, centre pieces etc. OH has made a model of a spitfire which is pretty cool

    Month&year of wedding: August 2014

A little bit about you & your OH: We met when he was doing his trade training at Cosford in Shropshire, turned out my dad actually taught him for a week!! We've been together since Oct 07, moved in together Oct 08 and got engaged in August last year at an ice cream farm that shares his last name! Im in the civil service and hes a techie in the RAF.

What made you join hitched? The ability to talk and read weddings 24/7 without annoying my OH or my BMs!!

Why did you choose your username? Boring I know but its my name!!

Five words to sum up your wedding: Peals, lace, chic, us, love!

What are you looking forward to most about your wedding day? Hmm, we've ordered a candy cart with our names on the candy bags so itll be great to see peoples reactions to that! I cant wait to see him at the end of the aisle, and for all our family and friends to see the venue, its beautiful and you can see the sea from the room we'll get married in.

What’s your favourite purchase (so far)? Porbably the candy cart, its so pretty and it'll look gorgeous.

What made you choose your venue? It was the first venue we saw, we then went on to see another 3 but knew it was the one when we went to look at the others. Nothing compared to it. Its just the right size, plus the staff are so friendly and really helpful.

What made you choose your dress?: I havent actually chosen my dress yet, though I tried a few on in february this year. Luckily my tastes have changed since then and I dont like those anymore!! Im going to go and have another look this weekend with my head BM and am much looking forward to it!!

Song choices? (first dance/walking down the aisle etc): Our song is about you know by the Sugababes and my Head BM managed to find an acapello version that was simply a girl singing along to a piano whihc has taken all the pop rubbish taken out. Its beautiful and if anything makes the words mean more to us. That will be our first dance, I want to walk in to Pacabel Canon in D, Ive always wanted that. My mother wants us to walk out to Tocata and Few (however you spell it) but its horrific and I had to put my foot down!!

Best Bargain (so far): Hmm I bought a bird cage for the wedding cards and that was £20!

Anything you've made for the wedding that you're most proud of? We've not made anything yet, but i fancy buying loads of jam and using the jars for candles, put some lace around them, stick on a few pearls and they'll look fab!!

Month & Year of wedding: December 2013

A little bit about you & your OH: We have been together for just short of three years, we live together and have a puppy newfoundland and a cat. We met at our previous job and he proposed last July.

What made you join hitched? A weddingy google search – I had limited wedding knowledge – everyone seemed friendly with good advice so I’ve stuck around

Why did you choose your username? Not sure really apart from that fact it’s one of our honeymoon destimations – I am not very imaginative!

Five words to sum up your wedding: Winter, candles, cosy, amazing food!

What are you looking forward to most about your wedding day? The whole day really, but I can’t wait to finally be a Mrs and say we are married.

What’s your favourite purchase (so far)? Probably our venue – we both love it so much and it is where he proposed.

What made you choose your venue: It is the perfect winter venue, oozes charm and style, the food is amazing, staff are lovely and it suits our smaller numbers whilst letting us have exculsivity and it is extra special to us as it is where my H2B proposed.

What made you choose your dress? Chance really, I had been to a few shops and tried on lots of different dresses, I never wanted one like what I have ended up with, but just sort of fell in love with it, it was the wild card dress the lady in the shop picked out for me! Not seen it since we ordered it in January though so I am having a slight wobble in the fact it is so different to what I thought I would go for!

Song choices? Pah! No idea yet

Best Bargain (so far): Hmmm, I don’t think we have had any bargains so far

Anything you've made for the wedding that you're most proud of? I have no creative talent at all so nothing, although I am proud of the people we have chosen to make things for the day – they are all been amazing so far!

    Great idea for a thread!

    Month&year of wedding: June 2014

A little bit about you & your OH: Together since July 2005 and engaged since July 2012. We met at my 21st birthday (apparently –l don’t remember though!) through mutual friends, met again not long after l moved to London and then ended up being flatmates. On a drunken day out someone made a move on someone else –to this day still not sure who did it. We have always lived together and we are in the middle of buying our own house. We will both be 34 when we get married.

What made you join hitched? My best friend recommended it. Plus l am quite nosy!

Why did you choose your username? Erin is my nameand 8 is my lucky number –original hey?

Five words to sum up your wedding: Relaxed, fun, drunken, Vegas and us

What are you looking forward to most about your wedding day? Mr Erin seeing me in my dress and us becoming man and wife.

What’s your favourite purchase (so far)? Booking the venue –still yet to pick a dress

What made you choose your venue? It is a gorgeous hotel and ironically worked out a lot cheaper than wedding chapels once you factor in all of the different things –we are marrying in Las Vegas.

What made you choose your dress?: Still not done this! Thinking of something lace and fitted

Song choices? (first dance/walking down the aisle etc): So far have decided on Never Tear us Apart by INXS

Best Bargain (so far): The place where we are having the wedding party, it is great value for central London.

Anything you've made for the wedding that you're most proud of? Nothing l don’t think. I have 2 left hands so l don’t think l will be making anything!
