I've been thinking about doing this for a while - I don't know whether there's another one somewhere but I thought it might be nice to have a mass introduction style thread. As people tend to introduce themselves once when they first join I thought it might be good to get to know a bit more about people where newcomers might have missed introductions etc or just missed posts and updates etc. I've started some qs below - some stolen from other threads where I thought they were good questions - feel free to answer as few or as many as you like or add some questions too. I've probably chosen rubbish questions so feel free to add better ones and I'll update my original post! OMs - feel free to join in too - it would be great to hear more about you and your day for us newer hitchers!

Month&year of wedding: May 2014

A little bit about you & your OH: We have been together for six and a half years – we’re very silly and have lots of fun together. We got engaged in January this year and have been planning the wedding ever since.

What made you join hitched? I’m very disorganised and indecisive and saw how much help other people were getting on here so thought I’d join in. I’ve gleaned loads of useful information so far and am really enjoying reading other people’s plans and getting to know people through here.

Why did you choose your username? Because I was stuck and it’s a song! Thinking of changing at a some point.

Five words to sum up your wedding: Full of things we like!

What are you looking forward to most about your wedding day? (Favourite part of the day for Oms): I’m most looking forward to the ceremony - the bit where we’re officially husband and wife. And then partying!

What’s your favourite purchase (so far)? All my brooches for my brooch bouquet – it’s been really fun hunting them down on ebay and at bootfairs etc and I’ve found some really lovely ones.

What made you choose your venue? We really wanted a barn and if possible somewhere that was exclusive to us and our venue had both. Also, because it’s not a huge wedding, we didn’t want somewhere where are numbers looked really small and our venue is quite cosy so it’s perfect! Everyone seemed lovely too.

What made you choose your dress?: It gave me an lovely shape – I didn’t think that was possible! And I really liked the cap sleeves – I hadn’t seen many lace dresses in prices range and hadn’t spotted any with sleeves like that so I was sold.

Song choices? (first dance/walking down the aisle etc): I haven’t chosen yet but interested to hear everyone elses!

Best Bargain (so far): It was my £7.80 shoes but I’ve since discovered they don’t go with my dress so I’m back to the drawing board for shoes and bargains!

Anything you've made for the wedding that you're most proud of? Not yet! But I hope there will be soon! We're making invites/the bouquet/table decorations etc so hopefully there will be lots of things in the future for flashes!

Month and Year of Wedding: August 2014

About me and OH: We met when i was 16 he was 17. Moved in together 3 years later, had a beautiful baby boy and will be marrying on our 10 year anniversary!! So i suppose we are childhood sweethearts lol. he is a wonderful man, kind, funny, loving, laid back and he looks after me ? I have rather strong opinions and love a good debate (OH rolls his eyes and mutters here she goes again) and i admit i can be abit of a *** sometimes (hey nobobys perfect!) he puts up with this and in return, i pretend that i did not just see him wipe something up with the TEA TOWEL! and i forgive him for being the teeny tiniest bit mardy on occasions lol ? we complement each other perfectly. Plus he leaves me in bed every Sunday and makes me breakfast.....how could i not marry the man!

What made you join hitched: i fell upon it while looking at venues and loved the forums, i am nosey hehe.

Why did you chose your username: its pretty much the same username for all my online activity

Five words to some up your wedding: family, friends, laughter, fun and food.

What are you looking forward to most about your wedding day? the fact that it is a full 4 days of celebrations instead of 1. And being Mr and Mrs ofcourse.

Whats your fav purchase so far? My venue. I just love it. I havent been dress shopping yet though so this will probs change.

What made you chose your venue? the church is stunning and on the coast. The actual venue is a big manor house we are renting for the weekend. We wanted somewhere further enough away that we could have the small intimate wedding we wanted without offending folk but close enough that our nearest and dearest could come.

What made you chose your dress? i havent been yet ☹️

Song choices? traditional wedding march, the rest tbc

Best bargain? TOG, a friend who was invited anyway has offered to do it (shes a prof tog) as the wedding is quite intimate it wouldnt feel right having someone else there all day

Anything youve made for the wedding your most proud of? I havent made them yet, other than a practice on, but my invites. I never make anything as 1) im lazy and would rather pay someone else and 2) im the least crafty person ever but I decided to make them as the wedding is only small and the practice one went well so fingers crossed

    Month&year of wedding: August 2014

A little bit about you & your OH: We met at school then got together when I left to go to college aged 16. (we are 29 now!) We got engaged on our 12 year anniversary last December.

What made you join hitched? Can't really remember, i must have been googling for something wedding related and decided to sign up!

Why did you choose your username? It's my nickname from OH. Appropriated from Adam and Joe. I'm not a real doctor!

Five words to sum up your wedding: Elegant, relaxed, romantic, stylish, memorable (i hope)

What are you looking forward to most about your wedding day? Finially being his wife! and wearing my dress!

What’s your favourite purchase (so far)? my dress!

What made you choose your venue? We had seen a barn venue near where my parents live a few years back and I always said i wanted to marry there. When it came round to it it was very very expensive and didn't have much accom so we kept searching and found an even better one!

What made you choose your dress?: It's slightly unusual, very simple in an elegant way and basically stunning!

Song choices? (first dance/walking down the aisle etc): No idea! Its stressing me out!

Best Bargain (so far): Hmmm I haven't done well with bargains so far! If it counts i bought some honeymoon underwear in agent provocateur. £100 reduced from £360!

Anything you've made for the wedding that you're most proud of? Not yet but I am making my bridesmaid dresses and morning robes, together with all the stationary so hopefully I will proud with all of that when it's done!

I'm not really a proper newbie but I don't post that often, but this is a great idea!

    Month&year of wedding: 6th Sept 2014

A little bit about you & your OH: We've been together since 2002 and have lived together since 2003 so we're kind of like an old married couple! We love having fun, trips to Cornwall, we go to rock gigs together, we both like to laugh lots and, even after all this time, we're still very affectionate with each other.

What made you join hitched? I was recommended it by someone my Mum works with - her sister was planning her wedding and swore by it! At first, I used it to get information on venues, photographers etc but then I found the forum, and I've been hooked ever since!! Smiley smile

Why did you choose your username? I couldn't think of anything so picked a username from another website! Must change it soon though

Five words to sum up your wedding: Fun, relaxed, beautiful, intimate & exciting!

What are you looking forward to most about your wedding day? When the ceremony (the formal bit!) is all done and we can enjoy the meal. Also looking forward to spending a few moments with my Dad before walking down the aisle. (Very special moment for this Daddy's girl!!)

What’s your favourite purchase (so far)? Our Save the Dates & invites - a company called The Card Gallery designed them for us and they're perfect!

What made you choose your venue? We really liked the relaxed feel of it and it's all going to be in the same venue but different rooms. Also it's got a beautiful staircase with a stained-glass window looking over it so if the weather's crap we had to have somewhere nice for photos!

What made you choose your dress?: Haven't got one yet

Song choices? (first dance/walking down the aisle etc): I haven’t chosen officially yet but I love the song Millionaire by Scouting for Girls, so maybe that to walk down the aisle to. We've been thinking about Metallica's "Nothing Else Matters" for our First Dance.

Best Bargain (so far): Again, the Save the Dates & invites - we had 20 STD's, 20 day invites and 10 evening invites - all for £75! And that included a design fee as they were bespoke for us. They also sent us some extras with no extra charge which I thought was really lovely.

Anything you've made for the wedding that you're most proud of? Not made anything yet but I'm hoping to buy the MR & MRS cardboard letters and hopefully decorate them myself, so we'll see how that goes...................! (Also I love doing cross-stitches so I'm doing a "Me To You" bear wedding picture to give my OH for a wedding day gift. I've done the groom and just started on the bride and then I have to do all the outlines, so I'm about halfway through and it's looking really good!)

What’s your favourite purchase (so far)? Haven't made many purchases I can actually hold tbh..i'll say our cars or golden eagle we've booked for photos Smiley smile

What made you choose your venue? What made you choose your dress?: Don't have it yet boooo Smiley smile

    Month&year of wedding: September 2014

A little bit about you & your OH: Met on first day of university when we were 18 as lived next door to each other in halls of residence. Took him 4 years to ask me out and we have been together ever since, apart from a few years long distance relationship when he was in Scotland.

What made you join hitched? Trying to pretend that I am not obsessed with the wedding in "normal life". Also, very nosy and like reading what everyone else is doing and pinching people's ideas!!

Why did you choose your username? Very boring. My name and getting married in Somerset as that's where OH is from.

Five words to sum up your wedding: Family. Friendly. Classy. Pretty. Fun.

What are you looking forward to most about your wedding day? The end of the ceremony and the relief of being married and it all going okay... and the food & seeing family and friends.

What’s your favourite purchase (so far)? My wedding dress and booking the band - they sound fantastic.

What made you choose your venue? We wanted somewhere country cottage like where we would be taken care of by experienced staff in a lovely setting - and we'd be the only wedding party there.

What made you choose your dress?: It made me look fantastic - wedding dresses are amazing.

Song choices? (first dance/walking down the aisle etc): Not chosen yet, but OH wanted me to walk down the aisle or have first dance to "Fat Bottomed Girls" by Queen - hmmmmm!!

Best Bargain (so far): Jenny Packham bridesmaid dresses bought in Debenhams sale.

Anything you've made for the wedding that you're most proud of? My OH has made a fantastic test run of elderflower fizz for the initial reception drink.

Nice idea, never really introduced myself so here goes...

    Month&year of wedding: November 2013

A little bit about you & your OH: We met on Match 3.5 years ago and OH moved in with me after 6 months together. Knew early on we would get married and here we are, despite a few hiccups along the way. OH took me on a surprise weekend to Paris on Valentine's day this year and proposed at the Eiffel Tower. We are best friends, we know we're strong and he is v funny and looks like Vince Vaughn!

What made you join hitched? For ideas and to read the crazy banter (aka arguments) which never fail to entertain!

Why did you choose your username? It's OH's nickname for me. Charming hey!

Five words to sum up your wedding: glamorous, sparkly, Christmas, expensive and FUN!

What are you looking forward to most about your wedding day? Seeing OH's face during the ceremony, my Dad's speech, cake, getting ready with my mum and sister, partying!

What’s your favourite purchase (so far)? Dress, shoes, hair piece ha!

What made you choose your venue? It is fabulous! And perfect for a winter wedding.

What made you choose your dress?: it's the right shape for me, had everything I wanted and I could just see myself in it on the day!

Song choices? (first dance/walking down the aisle etc): string trio playing Beatles' All You Need Is Love or TT Greatest Day to walk in, In My Life and McFly's It's All About You for register and Madness' It Must Be Love for processional. First dance is TT Rule The World

Best Bargain (so far): It is my 12 x 70cm 5 arm candelabra that I bough for £15 each. Billy bargain!

Anything you've made for the wedding that you're most proud of? my invitations, but there is much more to come! I love a bit of craft time!

    Month&year of wedding: August 2014

A little bit about you & your OH: We have known each other for 25 years and are godparents to each other's children. On our first date we were both so freaked out by the change in our relationship that we were both 45 minutes early and shaking with nerves.

Why did you choose your username? it's a contraction of a username I used to have years ago.

What are you looking forward to most about your wedding day? The ceremony, and learning to Diabolo properly.

What’s your favourite purchase (so far)? Tough one. first was some garden games which I was ridiculously excited about. More recently I have bought some lace for my dress which might be my favourite, but it hasn't arrived yet so I can't be sure!

What made you choose your venue? We had a very specific list of criteria. We made a short list of three and were pretty sure before we saw our venue that it would be the one.

What made you choose your dress?: I'm making my dress using a very inexpensive Chinese stock dress as a base. Not entirely sure how it will look yet.

Song choices? (first dance/walking down the aisle etc): This is OH's job. I have no idea what he's choosing but trust him implicitly.

Best Bargain (so far): Everything... I'm confident that I've got the best deal on everything.

Anything you've made for the wedding that you're most proud of? Hopefully it'll be my dress, the bridesmaids jackets, the rings or the flowers.

This is a lovely thread Smiley smile

    Month&year of wedding: May 2015

A little bit about you & your OH: We met online many years ago when we were at uni, far away from each other. Two years of commuting at weekends and he moved in with me. Fast forward 13 years and we have two beautiful children and have finally got round to getting married - we don't do things the conventional way!

What made you join hitched? I use a few forums and love the ideas and fun on them

Why did you choose your username? Nixy, Nixy1 and Nixy2 were already taken lol!

Five words to sum up your wedding: Fun, relaxed, seasidey, party, ice-cream

What are you looking forward to most about your wedding day? Getting married, speeches and the fun and games afterwards.

What’s your favourite purchase (so far)? Has to be all the sparkly glass bowls for our sweetie buffet, all bought from charity shops and costing less than £3 each, so a bargain and helping a good cause.

What made you choose your venue? It was the one that I kept going back to, I loved the atmosphere, the relaxed vibe, the chefs food is amazing and it's so pretty - everything that I wanted, and thankfully OH agrees with me!

What made you choose your dress? I haven't chosen one yet, not planning on shopping for one until next year!

Song choices? (first dance/walking down the aisle etc): No idea yet, kids want us to have Gangnam Style!

Best Bargain (so far): My £1 vintage suitcase from a local charity shop, it will become our card box. I've picked up a lot of picture frames off of Freecycle aswell to use as part of the table plan.

Anything you've made for the wedding that you're most proud of? My children Smiley smile

    Hi,

What a lovely Idea, I have joined the site today and feel that this is a nice way to introduce.

Month&year of wedding: September 2014 (however this is dependant on my health as we had planned last year but I was taken very ill, so starting again)

A little bit about you & your OH: We have been together for 6 Years, We have been engaged for 3 Years. It was love at first sight (sounds silly but it was, never thought I would ever say that) - OH was charming, supportive and friendly but thought he would never go for a girl like me. He did Smiley smile

What made you join hitched? The site in general is really good to help with planning and finding everything. However I joined mainly for the forum, everyone seems so nice and supportive.

Why did you choose your username? We have gone through a lot between us, and no matter what we are still together, stronger than ever. "The world is ours" means the world can throw anything at us, but we will get through it together.

Five words to sum up your wedding: Full of Love and Laughter

What are you looking forward to most about your wedding day? I am looking forward to it all, I know everyone will appreciate the love that we have for each other. I am looking forward to the ceremony as this is where we become from 2 to 1. Think it will be a pretty emotional wedding.

What’s your favourite purchase (so far)? I was given by a friend 30 White wicker hearts for free, and this is the only "purchase" so far, but our theme is love so works perfect.

What made you choose your venue? Wow, I never realised how fussy I actually was !! So we are still looking, but I have my heart set on Upwaltham Barns - it brings the whole "home" and "love" feeling to us. It is also ideal as it has everything we want and the whole wedding from ceremony to the evening will be done here. Beautiful venue, however no pictures give it justice.

What made you choose your dress?: I haven't chosen my dress, however I have convinced everyone what type of dress I would like and what they would expect me to wear, however I have tried a couple of dresses and love a certain design, which is very different from what people think I will be wearing. when I do go and have a look properly I will be taking my Mother and my Mother in Law, no one else will see the dress until the day of the wedding.

Song choices? (first dance/walking down the aisle etc): We haven't chosen a walking down the aisle yet, as there are too many choices that are close to our hearts. We have chosen our first dance, the song sums up our lives and is very personal to us. It is: DJ Sammy Heaven (however it will be an acoustic version, not the danced up version) hoping for a close friend to sing for us.

Best Bargain (so far): As above the white wicker hearts

Anything you've made for the wedding that you're most proud of? No not yet, I am sure I will soon. and of course will flash to everyone

    Month&year of wedding:Friday 1st August 2014

A little bit about you & your OH: We've been together 9 years, we got together very young, but we have no regrets. We now own our own home and have 4 fluffy house bunnies and a tortoise together!

What made you join hitched? I like forums, although I first used it for aiding my search for a venue.

Why did you choose your username? It's my username for most things. My other half is called Jay, I'm his monkey.

Five words to sum up your wedding: Bunnies, Yorkshire, DIY, Lavender, Cake

What are you looking forward to most about your wedding day? Becoming husband and wife Smiley smile

What’s your favourite purchase (so far)? The dress of course closing followed by my custom made wedding stamp for me to DIY the stationery.

What made you choose your venue? It's not a hotel, it's not religious, it's beautiful, quaint and we can have ceremony and reception in the same place. It is also close to home and in Yorkshire for Yorkshire day Smiley laugh

What made you choose your dress?: Because when I tried it on, for the first time in my life I felt beautiful. It brings me in at the waist and doesn't 'drown' me.

Song choices? (first dance/walking down the aisle etc): Only have our first dance decided so far. We're having Ben Harper - Forever

Best Bargain (so far): My Bridesmaid dresses which after I chose them became half price and I was happy that they were initially only costing £30 each, I got them for £15.00 each!!

Anything you've made for the wedding that you're most proud of? My guest book.

    Month&year of wedding: August 2014

A little bit about you & your OH: We are a holiday romance gone wrong. We also have a huge age gap.

What made you join hitched? I joined before I was engaged looking for ideas to put in hen party bags.

Why did you choose your username? I've been a bridesmaid 8 times!

Five words to sum up your wedding: Well it's about bloody time

What are you looking forward to most about your wedding day? The ceremony in my childhood church, and walking down it's aisle.

What’s your favourite purchase (so far)? Erm.... I've done a lot of window shopping so far but not actually bought much. I know this is bad!

What made you choose your venue? As with church, it's near my childhood home. I've said since I was a little girl that's where my wedding will be, way before village hall weddings became 'cool'.

What made you choose your dress?: It's my friend's, I gave up looking when I realised that hers was infact everything I was looking for, fits perfectly and will save me £1k! She's beside herself with excitement that I'm wearing it.

Song choices? (first dance/walking down the aisle etc): Traditional organ music for ceremony, and my favourite hymns from chuchr probably. Not sure on first dance though!

Best Bargain (so far): The free dress!? After that probably my bunting which so far cost under £5 for 30m - will be making more so maybe £20 all in for 100m.

Anything you've made for the wedding that you're most proud of? I'm making a lot of things. I reckon I'll be really proud of how the hall looks when I've dressed it!

I've loved reading all these - it's really nice to hear a bit more about everyone's weddings all in one place! ATB - I can't believe you've been a bridesmaid EIGHT times!!! I've only been a bridemaid when I was a lot younger - I've always wanted to be a bridesmaid again though!

    Hello all!!

So I've been lurking around the forum for a couple of weeks now since we got engaged so I thought it was time I introduced myself!

Month and year of wedding : October 2014 - not officially set yet - but we are provisionally holding the date until Friday when we pay the deposit Smiley smile

A little about you & your OH: well I'm Jen (hi) and he's Martin. We met in Berlin November 2010 and got together in the January 2011. We both fly (he's a pilot and I'm cabin crew) that's how we met Smiley smile we got engaged in Greece in August - the night before his parents 40th wedding anniversary Smiley smile he's pretty special Smiley smile

What made you join hitched? : well it was actually him that joined me up when we were searching venues - but I've been reading comments now for the past couple of weeks on the forum and found it really useful and somewhere good to chat and get advice from other brides!

Why did you choose your username?: explains its self really Smiley smile

Five words to sum up your wedding: family, friends, love, laughter, fun

What are you most looking forward to about our wedding day?: having all my family and friends together in one place - I'm originally from the NW and he's from dorset so there's been not a lot of chance to get every one together as of yet so really looking forward to that.

What's your favourite purchase so far?: ive not really bought anything yet so I have to say its my wedding book(s) - sad I know! I have this quirky little wedding planner that's really cute and then another binder that has absolutely everything in at the moment - from clippings from magazines , to website addresses that I've found for absolute everything! It's a bit like my bible at the moment!

What am you choose your venue?: well the church we are getting married in is the church were OH grew up and was christened in - and the reception venue I just fell in love with as soon as I saw it !!

What made you choose your dress?: I've not started dress shopping yet - but I have my veil - it was my mums - my nan actually made it so its very special Smiley smile

Song choices (first dance/walking down the aisle etc): we were talking about this last night and still have no idea ha! I'll probably have something quite traditional for walking down the aisle.

Best bargin (so far?): not ordered them yet but I've found my save the dates - they work out around 4.5p each!

Anything you've made for the wedding that you're most proud of: I've not started yet but I'll be making my own centre pieces and invitations etc.

    Lovely idea!

    Month&year of wedding: May 2014

A little bit about you & your OH? We met 5 years ago in our previous place of work. When I first saw him I honestly thought he was the most handsome man I had ever seen, and I still feel that way! He proposed in May 2013 at sunset on a beach in Northern Ireland where he is from, it was my perfect proposal with my perfect engagement ring.

What made you join Hitched? I stumbled across Hitched on my many wedding related google searches. I've been a lurker for a while but my day is coming ever closer so thought I would join in.

Why did you choose your username? I'm a twin, we both were called Twinkle (twin-kle) when we were wee, I use it for most online things. As Twinkle was taken I added on random numbers to the end.

Five words to sum up your wedding: Laid-back, relaxing, romantic and Scottish!

What are you looking forward to most about your wedding day?(Favourite part of the day for Oms): Mostly the promise of being with my OH forever. Also him seeing my dress, and being surrounded by the people we love.

What’s your favourite purchase (so far)? I haven't bought anything tangible apart from a foam bouquet from eBay which I didn't like, but will keep to throw so I can keep my real flowers nice! I am really looking forward to purchasing our wedding bands, I want to do it now but OH says there's no rush - I'm impatient!

What made you choose your venue? I'm from the Isle of Arran which is a Scottish island, and I wouldn't have felt right getting married away from home, although I live in Glasgow now. The island has some lovely hotels but we met while working in one of them, so we decided to go for a different one called the Douglas, it's had a lovely refurb and fits our style and is the right size for our numbers. Plus the views from it are stunning and it's right by the sea.

What made you choose your dress?: I haven't chosen my dress as such, and I'm panicking now! I tried on a Justin Alexander 8659 and loved it, could see myself wearing it but didn't get an overwhelming feeling that it was 'the one'. It was also over budget. Really need to get out some more and try on but can't get the time with the 2 BM's. I'm sure it will work out though!

Song choices? (first dance/walking down the aisle etc): As I'm Scottish and love the bagpipes, I will be piped in to Highland Cathedral, it gives me goosebumps every time I hear it! We will be piped out of the ceremony as well, and for our first dance it will be Gavin DeGraw - We Belong Together. Haven't given any thought to any other music to be played though!

Best Bargain (so far): Not bought anything yet and I can never be bothered with specifically looking for bargains!

Anything you've made for the wedding that you're most proud of? I can safely say I am not gifted with DIY skills and neither is OH! The most I'll do is chuck some shells in vases of water and have floating candles as centrepieces! Smiley smile

Bumping this for newbies/lurkers or anyone that missed it before, as we've had lots of newbies since and thought it might be nice for anyone to add if they want to and see a bit more about other poeple (and I'm mega nosy and I like to have wedding details as it helps me to remember people!).

    Month&year of wedding: July 2014

A little bit about you & your OH: Met when he was playing a gig, I had just turned 16 and he was nearly 19. Been living together since July 2012 and engaged since Christmas Day 2012. We defied all the odd and still together 5 years on and couldn't be happier to have met my husband to be so young.

What made you join hitched? I wanted to be nosy!

Why did you choose your username? This is actually the 3rd username I have had as I am so indecisive! I just like it and it reminds me of my OH.

Five words to sum up your wedding: Sweets, sweets, sweets, sweets, sweets!

What are you looking forward to most about your wedding day? Looking forward to getting it over with and walking away as husband and wife to be honest!!!

What’s your favourite purchase (so far)? Dress.

What made you choose your venue? Well lit, not too expensive, LUSH food.

What made you choose your dress?: It made me feel amazing, and nothing other than wine usually does that! ?

Song choices? (first dance/walking down the aisle etc): Walking down to At Last - Etta James. Makes me cry when I hear it. First dance is undecided.

Best Bargain (so far): My dress was half price.

Anything you've made for the wedding that you're most proud of? Nope, I don't do DIY!!!

    Month&year of wedding: June 2014

A little bit about you & your OH: Been together for just over 5 and a half years. Probably spend too much time together and a lot of that time is spent watching films/TV we both enjoy (mostly comedy and sci-fi) or playing board or table top games.

What made you join hitched? I can barely organise my own week, let alone a wedding! Not many of our friends are married either so we couldn't ask them. Could see that there was lots of useful info people were sharing so thought I'd try and join in.

Why did you choose your username? It's a name I've used for things in the past and it's stuck.

Five words to sum up your wedding: Informal and should reflect us.

What are you looking forward to most about your wedding day? (Favourite part of the day for Oms): Actually being married and then spending a nice day with family and friends.

What’s your favourite purchase (so far)? My shoes! Customised (in terms of colours) converse.

What made you choose your venue? We wanted something informal and not too expensive. It also happened to be across the road from the registry office which means less travel hassle!

What made you choose your dress?: I didn't feel like an idiot in it. I hate wearing dresses but felt comfortable in this one, it gave me a nice shape and suited me and was the style I wanted. I was calm about it in the shop, but secretly I'm excited about it and can't stop looking at pictures of it.

Song choices? (first dance/walking down the aisle etc): Not sure yet. Hoping to fit in an instrumental version of Metallica's 'Nothing Else Matters' though.

Best Bargain (so far): Probably my dress/accessories. Not 'cheap' but much less than I was expecting which has meant money has been freed up for elsewhere.

Anything you've made for the wedding that you're most proud of? Not made anything and doubt I will. Will help my mum with the cupcakes she's making for us though. I'm not creative in the slightest =/

    Month&year of wedding: November 2014

A little bit about you & your OH: We're been together 13 years and lived together for 12 years. We got engaged 22nd December 2013 in our local pub after he asked my Dad's permission. There is a 25 year age gap between us but we never notice it. We met in a pub one evening and started a casual fling that quickly developed into a full on relationship. He genuinely is my best friend as well as my everything else and I know he feels the same about me.

What made you join hitched?: I just stumbled across it one day but it is by far the nicest wedding forums (some of the others can be downright nasty) so have stuck around (plus I like having a nose at what everyone is planning)

Why did you choose your username?: Because I will soon be Mrs Mengham (eeeeeK)

Five words to sum up your wedding: Fun, relaxed, red, informal, us

What are you looking forward to most about your wedding day?: Marrying the man that means everything to me

What’s your favourite purchase (so far)?: Haven't brought loads just yet but at the moment it's my tiara.

What made you choose your venue?: For the ceremony, because it's non religious and within budget (and it is beautiful). For the reception, because it holds a lot of memories for us.

What made you choose your dress?: Haven't got it yet but am going to try dress this Thursday (so excited) but I have seen one that is amazing and in budget. The dress is absolutely gorgeous and the name of it ties into our fav book / tv series too.

Song choices? (first dance/walking down the aisle etc): Walking into an orchestral version of the Game of Thrones theme. Signing the register to Signed, Sealed, Delivered by Stevie Wonder and walking out to My First, My Last, My Everything by Barry White. First dance is Angel by Shaggy as that has always been "our" song.

Best Bargain (so far): Best Bargain (so far): Reception venue. We are only paying costs for food and drink and nothing for hiring the place (but owner is like family to OH).

Anything you've made for the wedding that you're most proud of?: I have made all my invitations and our guest book and will be making the BM bouquets and possibly the favour boxes.

Oooh I haven't done this yet...

    Month&year of wedding: September 2014

A little bit about you & your OH: We met through mutual friends. We got together in September 2000, moved in together 6 months later and never looked back. We have a gorgeous black cat called Ollie and are just about to move into our 'forever' house.

What made you join hitched? Lots of our friends got married years ago so I don't have any friends getting married. I wanted somewhere where I could talk about weddings with other brides and share ideas.

Why did you choose your username? Well, we're getting married in NYC and I'm going to be a bride so it seemed like an obvious choice!

Five words to sum up your wedding: A fantastic fairy-tale in New York

What are you looking forward to most about your wedding day? All of it. We've worked really hard to make the whole day an experience from start to finish and I'm so looking forward to seeing it all come together.

What’s your favourite purchase (so far)? Not really a purchase but we've booked a Trolley to transfer our guests from the Park to the Pier where we'll get on the boat for our evening meal. We just told people that we've arranged transport as we want to keep a few surprises for the day. Because you can't drink Alcohol in public places in New York, we're arranging for their to be bottles of our favourite sparkling wine on the Trolley and we'll also be having a mini tour of Manhattan rather than just going to the Pier.

What made you choose your venue? We love Central Park and the Cop Cot seemed perfect as it has offers some privacy and has seating. The great thing with an outdoor wedding is that, weather permitting, Mother Nature will be taking care of all the decorations for us.

What made you choose your dress?: I always thought I would choose a simple wedding dress but then I saw the Justin Alexander 8465 on-line and I just fell in love. Its a shape I'm comfortable with and I think it just screams New York.

Song choices? (first dance/walking down the aisle etc): We can't have amplified music in the Park so we're going to have an acoustic musician. Like many brides I'm considering Cannon in D for my entrance (I can't really say walking down the aisle as we don't have one as such). We haven't really chosen any other music yet.

Best Bargain (so far): I bought my dress of Pre-loved for less than half the price of buying it new.

Anything you've made for the wedding that you're most proud of? Just the Wedding Invitations so far. I found one's I wanted on line but they were so expensive so I decided to make my own in the same style. We've had loads of comments on them. I'm also planning on making a brooch bouquet and I've got some brooches off my mum and some from my nan who passed away 10 years ago.

I've loved getting to know other brides through this forum and hope many more of you join in x

What made you join hitched? Had used a pregnancy forum when I was expecting and almost as soon as we got engaged I hunted out a wedding forum, great to share ideas!

Why did you choose your username? I'll be a Mrs and DJG are my H2Bs initials.

Five words to sum up your wedding: Relaxed, classic, romantic, simple & fun (I hope!)

What are you looking forward to most about your wedding day? All of it. The excitement that morning, the moment we my man sees me in my dress, the minute we make our vows to one and other & make our life long commitment in marriage and of course the celebration, food, drink & party!!

What’s your favourite purchase (so far)? We haven't purchased anything as such as yet, we have booked our church and our venue and paid our deposits.

What made you choose your venue? We feel comfortable there, relaxed, the outdoor space is down by the river and the reception room is light and pretty, we enjoyed a wedding we attended there too, plus it was within budget and the staff and friendly and professional, it is just right for us.

What made you choose your dress?: I haven't even tried on a dress yet!

Song choices? (first dance/walking down the aisle etc): Again, we haven't discussed or decided this yet we're still in the very early stages of planning.

Best Bargain (so far): We haven't bought anything yet only paid deposits on church & reception venue.

Anything you've made for the wedding that you're most proud of? Haven't made anything yet, again, we are early in the planning stages, not sure what I'll make myself, I'm not much of a DIY-er.

    xx

Five words to sum up your wedding: Relaxed, romantic, us, simple & fun (I hope!)

Best Bargain (so far): Probably my shoes but guess they won't be such a bargain if I have to get a new pair! :-/

Anything you've made for the wedding that you're most proud of? Not much of a diy-er but I wish I was!!

    Month&year of wedding: September 2014

A little bit about you & your OH: Been together since March 2012, met on match.com. Second time round for both of us after awful first marriages. Bought a house together a year ago and live there with our 3 pet rats Archie, Bailey and Isaac.

What made you join hitched? I was here for my first wedding some years ago and found it helpful. Also love seeing other people's weddings and ideas.

Why did you choose your username? We have 3 pet rats and I am a bit eclectic!

Five words to sum up your wedding: Getting it right this time!

What are you looking forward to most about your wedding day? marrying the perfect man, spending time with friends we don't see enough of, and having everything that reflects us.

What’s your favourite purchase (so far)? We haven't really bought anything yet, only a few bits and pieces.

What made you choose your venue? We chose the local Guildhall because my parents got married there, and neither of us wanted a package deal or a church wedding, and it is a beautiful gothic building that fits our theme. We chose Pizza Express for the wedding breakfast because it is so 'us', and we wanted everyone to have a choice of menu. Chose a local golf club for the evening because we wanted somewhere convenient that let us do our own catering.

What made you choose your dress?: I didn't want a traditional wedding dress, so have chosen a black and red gothic handfasting dress which suits my style and our theme perfectly.

Song choices? (first dance/walking down the aisle etc): First dance - Hooberstank, The Reason. Walking down the aisle - Manics, Small Black Flowers That Grow in the Sky.

Best Bargain (so far): Found a perfect black and red lace bag on Ebay for £4!

Anything you've made for the wedding that you're most proud of? We have handmade all of our invites.

Month and year of wedding: May 2015

A little bit about you and OH: We've been together four years this March. We met when he hung around the staff kitchen in the medical library I used to work in, exchanged smiles and hello's, then when he moved placement, eight months later I decided I should have asked him out, googled him and sent him a message on Friends Reunited (thank goodness he has a fairly unique name!)....fast mover me! He remembered me and the rest is history, knew it was good from the first date, n he proposed the day after my 30th last year at le manoir!. We just bought our first home, with our gorgeous noisy pusscat, and currently spending obscene amounts of time doing DIY so wedding planning is giving me a wonderful break from wielding sanders and paintbrushes!

What made you join hitched: stumbled across it venue hunting and am nosy and love looking at people's pics and ideas! Inspirational! N it's nice o be a bit wedding crazy secretly sometimes!

Why did you choose your username: actually I've just this minute changed it from my generic use for everything username. Just decided on treacle tart as thats what H2B calls our cat

Five words to sum up wedding: country barn with gorgeous man!

What are you most looking forward to: becoming husband and wife, making that commitment. And wearing a pretty dress obvs haha!

Favourite purchase so far: havn't bought loads yet but got some cute tiny pink paper rose wreaths, and despite me not wanting bunting I got some Mr nd Mrs Surname which I like!

What made you choose your venue: I loved it after seeing it online and it was the first place we viewed and it was so gorgeous, a lovely barn with courtyard, the staff have been great so far, and the food and wine looks so good! Plus it's the right size for us, not too big, and it's literally 2 minutes walk to/from the church so we can all walk back together!

What made you choose your dress: I havnt yet, going to have my first look at them in a few weeks! Exciting! I like lacy back, fairly fitted, higher necklines, but who knows!

Song choices: not picked yet, we not have a first dance as my fiancé is in a wheelchair and despite my best efforts to make him he's not keen. He's also not keen on him sitting there while I fling my moves about around him haha....must think of an alternative first dance thang! Walking down the aisle will probs be traditionally stuff, and as we're having a church ceremony I found some hymn songs the other day which are nice, Jerusalem, we pledge to one another, and come to a wedding.

Best bargain: my collection of ale bottles and jam jars, can't be bad if you get to eat n drink the contents of your decorations first!

Anything you've made for the wedding? Nope, I love making stuff but usually get sidetracked half way through new hobbies and projects, and me other half isn't as keen on the rustic handmade looking stuff as me :-D

Oooh, this looks fun, and a handy way to introduce myself because I'm new!

    Month&year of wedding: November 2014

A little bit about you & your OH: Ali and I met at work in April 2011 and quickly became firm friends as a result of several doggy playdates involving her greyhound Barney and my Jack Russell Lily. In October 2011 after several pints and an impromptu game of Come Dine With Me a few previously unspoken thoughts came out (no pun intended) into the open and 10 day later we were a fully fledged couple. We got engaged in June 2012, but being made redundant (simultaneously!) in early 2013 put the wedding on hold until RBOS kindly coughed up some PPI money they owed me, we both got nice new jobs and thus were able to finally able to move our plans forward. We booked our wedding in September last year, and now, here we are...

What made you join hitched? I found it on one of my many wedding related google searches and you all seemed like a nice bunch so I decided to stay!

Why did you choose your username? D (as in Dee) is my first initial and B (as in B) is my second initial... and i'm 33!

Five words to sum up your wedding: We'll Do It Our Way

What are you looking forward to most about your wedding day? Everything. Absolutely every single last second!

What’s your favourite purchase (so far)? My dress! My genuine, wonderful, makes me look all slender and princessy Maggie Sottero. Which I got off the peg, in a one day sale, completely by chance, for £350. First one I tried on and I LOVE IT.

What made you choose your venue? We're doing it at Down Hall Country House Hotel (downhall.co.uk) largely because they were the first venue we found who truly understood how important it was for our dogs to be there. Plus, our wedding planner is lovely!

What made you choose your dress?: As above. It was about as far from what I was expecting to like as I could imagine but once i'd tried it on, nothing else matched up.

Song choices? (first dance/walking down the aisle etc): Walking down the aisle - Suddenly by Angry Anderson, Signing the register - We've only just begun by The Carpenters, Walking back up the aisle - to be decided on, First dance - We're torn on, initially we were going to go with For Good from Wicked but there's one line in it that doesn't quite fit so might go with I Close My Eyes (And Count to 10) by Dusty Springfield.

Best Bargain (so far): Since we've already mentioned my dress, I think our invite artwork can be the best bargain since we didn't pay for it at all - my wonderful sister and CBM did it!

Anything you've made for the wedding that you're most proud of? Not yet! But we're doing the invites and favours soon so watch this space!

This is such a lovey idea.

Month & year of wedding: August 2014

A little bit about you & your OH: We met on New Years Eve 2006, we moved in together in September 2007 and got engaged in November 2012. We booked our Wedding in January 2013 and now it's only six months away. We are both so excited for out big day.

What made you join hitched? I’m really organised and have an app on my iPhone where all of our ideas, budgets, photo inspiration is held, however we are really struggling for a song to exit the service too, I was search on Google and found the hitched forum. I love looking at the wedding flashes, they are all so beautiful.

Why did you choose your username? Because I love cupcakes!

Five words to sum up your wedding: Dusky pink vintage love birds.

What are you looking forward to most about your wedding day?: Becoming husband and wife.

What’s your favourite purchase (so far)? My dress, it's due to de delivered to the shop I bought it from any day now.

What made you choose your venue? We choose our venue due to its location and the fact we wanted the whole day to be at the same venue to ensure some of our elderly relatives could attend the whole day.

What made you choose your dress?: I found it on the designers website as I'm curvy and I was dreading going dress shopping. I found a shop not too far away that stocked the range, they ordered the dress in as it was not a dress they usually stock. It was the first dress I'd tried on but I loved it so much it made me feel fantastic so I bought it there and then.

Song choices? (first dance/walking down the aisle etc): Walking down the isle to I'm Kissing you by Des'ree. First dance is going to be Chasing Cars by Snow Patrol. We can't find a song for once we are married to leave the ceremony too, thought of having You've got the Love by Florence and the Machine but don't know if we can have this as we can't have anything religious and the song refers to God, really stuck.

Best Bargain (so far): My shoes. When I went to the till to payoff them they were only £16.00 as they were on sale, they didn't have any stickers on them so it was a very nice surprise.

Anything you've made for the wedding that you're most proud of? In stead of having a guest book we are having individual cards that guest and write on and then post them in to a birdcage. I bought a ink stamp from Canada and made the cards myself, I think they are really pretty.

    Ooh I like this!

    Month&year of wedding: September 2014

A little bit about you & your OH: We have been together for 12 years and have a 9 year old daughter. I always said I wouldn't get married again but he wore me down. I'm such a romantic!

What made you join hitched? I am sooo not girly that I need help from you lovely ladies on all sorts of things. I never imagined in my wildest dreams that I would be getting excited about hairstyles on Pinterest.

Why did you choose your username? I didn't! It was the one generated for me and I kinda like it.

Five words to sum up your wedding: Fun,sun, music, love and laughter

What are you looking forward to most about your wedding day? Seeing my H2Bs face when I walk up the hill to the chapel at St Paul's

What’s your favourite purchase (so far)? My parasols. One for each female guest - at 30 plus degrees they are going to need them

What made you choose your venue? I insisted that I would only get married either in a marathon or abroad! We had seen the chapel nesting on the hill at Lindos on one of our first holidays together so it made perfect sense.

What made you choose your dress?: Quite a few people questioned whether I would bother with a dress as I am older so I was terrified when going to try on dresses. I said I wanted something plain ... but the ones I tried didn't seem right. The last dress I tried was the one I dismissed on the hanger as it was lace but as soon as I put it on, I knew.

Song choices? (first dance/walking down the aisle etc): First dance is Never Tear Us Apart (Beck)

Best Bargain (so far): I'm rubbish at shopping for bargains as I hate shopping!

Anything you've made for the wedding that you're most proud of? The invites. I collected 45 inch vinyl records that were relevant for each guest then we designed our own record sleeve invitations

    Month&year of wedding: april 2014

A little bit about you & your OH: He is almost 5 years younger than me, but had a very serious illness when I met him - one that we thought he might not pull through which has made him very mature. He kicked butt and won my heart all at the same time. We had been together 9months when we got engaged. This will be our third year together we have lived in 2 different homes but not alone...we cannot wait to get our own place!

What made you join hitched? I’m good at arts and crafts but not good at coming up with the ideas myself, so I came here for inspiration. As I spend hours trawling the internet for ideas, why not trawl a site where every other user is trawling the internet for hours...you find info so much faster.

Why did you choose your username? Originally my username was because my wedding blog was called the same, but I had to scrap that as a family member found it and I felt I could no longer be as honest as I wanted to without offending. So now it is shortened.

Five words to sum up your wedding: relaxed, budget, meaningful, romantic, exciting.

What are you looking forward to most about your wedding day? I'm most looking forward to sharing the whole experience with all of the people I love.

What’s your favourite purchase (so far)? The dress and shoes were my favourite thing to buy.

What made you choose your venue? We chose our venue because it is owned by a family friend who recently took it over and renovated. My dad was very keen for us to have it there and we do really like the place (it might not have been our first choice but was an option). Then when dad offered to pay we felt it was right to pick his favourite. And We wouldn't have it any other way.

What made you choose your dress?: It is the polar opposite of what I thought I wanted and would look best. It was the one that made everyone a wee bit teary eyed. I didn't go for it then and there, I gave myself time to think about it...but had decided I was willing to pay the full whack. Then in January the wedding boutique announced their sample sale on fb and my dress was the picture they used. To say I flipped out is an understatement, I called and reserved it before the sale was even due to start. I just knew it was a sign that I was meant to have that dress.

Song choices? (first dance/walking down the aisle etc): I didn't pick the walking down the aisle..but OH really likes canon in d. So that shall be. Then our first dance is jack Johnson better together.

Best Bargain (so far): Creme eggs at £12.00 for 72. Or my wedding dress...£500 off.

Anything you've made for the wedding that you're most proud of? Probably the centrepieces. Aside from the flowers and cost of ink (£2) they were absolutely free!

Month&year of wedding: August 2016 (probably)

A little bit about you & your OH: We met at university and have been together for six and a half years. He has been my absolute rock through some very tough times and I can't wait to be married to him.

What made you join hitched? I joined long before we were even engaged, I guess mainly because I was hinting for a proposal!

Why did you choose your username? Because I love the Mighty Boosh.

Five words to sum up your wedding: It's far too bloody expensive

What are you looking forward to most about your wedding day? the speeches and dancing

What’s your favourite purchase (so far)? I haven't purchased anything yet.

What made you choose your venue? We haven't booked our venue yet but the one we love is in the city centre which is what we wanted, modern, quirky and lots of fabulous photo opportunities. It's also fully accessible for wheelchair users which we needed for my mum.

What made you choose your dress?: I don't have one yet but I'm very excited about looking.

Song choices? (first dance/walking down the aisle etc): Walking down the aisle to David Bowie's heroes, the rest is yet to be decided.

Best Bargain (so far): I haven't bought anything yet.

Anything you've made for the wedding that you're most proud of? Not yet but we will more than likely make the invitations ourselves as well as decoration bits.

    Month&year of wedding: Aug 14

A little bit about you & your OH: We first actually spoke to each other in 2006 in a strange little shop where I was buying wellies and he walked in to do the same. He asked if I was going to Reading Festival, which I said I was. I paid, he held the door open for me and said maybe I'll see you there, I laughed as what are the chances of that! The very first night there we practically walked into each other and we barely left each others side for the rest of the weekend. We moved in together a month later (crazy I know). 6 months after moving in together his band got a deal in America meaning that he was back and forth to LA for 2 years but we stayed together! In 2010 we brought our own house, a year after that we had a baby boy! September 13 he proposed on our 7 year anniversary.

What made you join hitched? I work in an office full of men who really dont want to talk about weddings! I needed an outlet!

Why did you choose your username? Its my name, I didnt even think about having anything else!?

Five words to sum up your wedding: All you need is love

What are you looking forward to most about your wedding day? (Favourite part of the day for Oms): Being pronounced man and wife and lots of dancing!

What’s your favourite purchase (so far)? My dress although the bridesmaid dress is lovely too!

What made you choose your venue? There was no choice, I've always wanted to get married there.

What made you choose your dress?: My sister actually chose it. I hated it on the hanger! When I put it on though it just felt right and although I had a wobble Im now sure that its the dress for me.

Song choices? (first dance/walking down the aisle etc): Aisle: Jose Gonzalez - Heartbeats, Signing: Fleetwood Mac - Songbird, Etta James - At Last, Walking out: Weezer - My Best Friend

Best Bargain (so far): Lots! All my stationary is free thanks to some lovely friends. My shoes which were in the sale for £30. Our rings which were £60ish for both.

Anything you've made for the wedding that you're most proud of? All of the favours (mix cds) which double of place names, kids activity packs and I will be doing the cake and the flowers.

    Ooo this looks great fun!!

Month&year of wedding: July 2016 (hopefully)

A little bit about you & your OH: We met at university and have been together for seven and a half years. We started out as friends and a relationship soon blossomed!

What made you join hitched? It has some brilliant ideads, tips and some great discussions that I couldnt wait to be a part of! Also (and I'm not sure this is a good thing!!) its a distraction from work (too much so at times!)

Why did you choose your username? Because my cats name is Daisy, we call her Daisymoo and I was born in 86.

Five words to sum up your wedding: It's far too bloody expensive

What are you looking forward to most about your wedding day? wearing the dress of my dreams and marrying the man I love.

What’s your favourite purchase (so far)? I haven't purchased anything yet.

What made you choose your venue? We haven't booked our venue yet, still searching.

What made you choose your dress?: I have fallen in love with a Mori Lee 1862. Its lace and vintageness really appealed to me.

Song choices? (first dance/walking down the aisle etc): To be decided.

Best Bargain (so far): Some mirrored plates for centrepieces for 62p each in the Xmas sales!

Anything you've made for the wedding that you're most proud of? Nothing made yet, plan to make bunting, invites and our own sweet cart though so plenty to look forward to!

Great idea for a thread, I've really enjoyed reading through all of the posts.

    Month&year of wedding: September 2014

A little bit about you & your OH: We have known each other since I was 18 and he was 16 but we weren't close back then. We were both in serious relationships from our mid-teens to mid-twenties so never considered each other in 'that way' and then a few years ago that all changed. We've been together 4.5 years now and got engaged in March 2011.

What made you join hitched? Originally, for help with finding a venue. Then I found the forums and was hooked. There are so many wise and creative people on here.

Why did you choose your username? It's Sheldon and Amy :-)

Five words to sum up your wedding: Elegant yet relaxed knees up

What are you looking forward to most about your wedding day? All of it. Getting ready in the morning, feeling the butterflies in my tummy as I walk down the aisle, getting married, celebrating with family and friends. The whole day really.

What’s your favourite purchase (so far)? My dress! It took me over 30 attempts to find her :-)

What made you choose your venue? We both really wanted a 'wow' venue and don't live near the coast, so countryside manor house was the best option. H2B loves the painted ceilings and it was his absolute favourite out of all those we saw so I'm pleased for him on that score. Also it's exclusive use which was important to us.

What made you choose your dress? I had tried on so many that simply weren't right and then this one finally had everything in all the right places. I had a feeling as soon as I saw it on the hanger that it would be the one.

Song choices? (first dance/walking down the aisle etc): Haven't a clue! Everything that means something to 'us' is hugely inappropriate. This should be interesting...

Best Bargain (so far): My dress was half price. It had been put on the sale rack the day that the shop closed for Xmas and was there waiting for me when they opened again in the New Year :-)

Anything you've made for the wedding that you're most proud of? Not yet and I doubt there will be. I like the idea of making our invitations - but that's it, just the idea.
