GHDs... Should I do it???? 1 final Q!

English Girl in Bangkok, 14 July, 2008 at 12:15 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 13

Hello

I am poised to buy GHDs online from the GHD website because they are £99.99. Still feels like a lot of money, but my current straighteners are getting old and 'd like to get a pair in the UK before I fly back to Bangkok in a few weeks, or else I'll be paying stupid postage. In Thailand you can only get crapp straighteners becasue Thai's are blessed with naturally poker straight hair it seems!

Are GHDs really worth it????

I was sceptical for SOOOO long. I persevered with my babyliss ones thinking they were good. Until I had mine straightened at the HD with GHDs and it was totally different. So I bought the salon straighteners and OMG. They are fabulous. Definitely worth the money. They are super, super hot. And I don't need to straighten my hair everyday now either as it holds. I have thick, curly hair and can't recommend them enough.

I absolutely loved my GHD's but they sadly died last week. They seem to have a natural life of about 4 years. I never had any problems with them.

I have now bought Babyliss ones as I couldn't afford GHD's this time around, I've used them a couple of times but I don't they are as good - although the 77 reviews on Amazon do tell you otherwise!

I had ME2 straighteners, they died so I bought GHD's after everyone recommending them. I do love my GHD's but don't think they're any better than the ME2's I used to have. ME2's, I think, are cheaper. Up to you really. If there's not much in it then go for GHD's but if it's a lot pricewise i'd go for ME2.

When I've tried taking my UK straighteners abroad I often find they don't work that well through the adaptors - they don't get as hot? Similarly UK hairdyers don't work well. Not sure what voltage Thailand is on and whether you'd have this problem but it is worth bearing in mind.

Get the GHDs! They have dual voltage which means you can use them abroad - I wasn't able to use my old ones in the States which was really annoying. When they died, I gritted my teeth and spent £120 on a pair of GHDs and I've been really happy with them. They heat up sooo quickly and because they glide through your hair really easily, there's less chance of you damaging your hair. I would recommend them. Worth every penny.

I love my GHDs. I had them for Christmas 2 or 3 years ago and they're still going strong. I have really fly-away whispy hair so to me they're a Godsend!

Definately. I had two other brands before and they don't even come close. I would never go back to other brands now that I have my GHDs.

Get the GHDs, they're worth every penny! Get some good protective balms and sprays for your hair though as the extra heat does damage it unless you protect it well.

Thanks everyone! I'm flexing my credit card and taking the plunge! They also guaratee next day delivery which is exciting! I'm using Remmington ones at the moment which have been fine, but I struggle with my hair in Thailand, despite it being fine, because of the blasted humidity!

One final question... should I go for the normal GHD IV styler or the salon one? I've fine hair that sits just above my shoulders, but it says the salon one is ideal for thick curly hair, which mine isn't. Decisions...

To be honest i'd say no they're not worth it.

My sister has had two pairs in the last 3 years, as they kept breaking and i've got some remington ones which seem much better. I've used my sister's GHD's numerous times but to be honest i think you can get much better for less money.

Ooops, I've just bought some now! Been wanting some for ages and that offer is too good to miss. Especially as you get the thermal protector product with it. Can't wait til tomorrow to try them out!

Love love LOVE my new GHDs! I've not got frizzy hair or anything, but it does what it wants to. Which includes standing on end in the mornings! ?

But my GHDs have been a god-send. The girls at work have even commented on it, and I'm using them in the same way that I used my previous ones, so SUCH a big difference!

I've just done it! Went for the normal ones in the end, as it's not like I've got super tricky hair or anything. Thanks for all your advice.
