Gift ideas for parents?

HappyPurpleCakes482, 3 May, 2016 at 11:19 Posted on Planning 0 9

Hello everyone

I'm really struggling for ideas as to what to get my parents as a thank you gift.

My brother got married a few years ago and got personalised trinket/jewellery boxes, and flowers etc., so can't really go down that route again.

My parents arent coming the wedding due to illness, however I still want to be able to get them something. I've thought of a weekend away somewhere, but again they can't commit to this due to my dad being sick. I've also looked at concert /event tickets, but medication is putting my dad to sleep at around 7pm each day.

I've looked at getting a plant/tree they both like, however feel there's nothing personal in there. Any suggestions as to what else I can get them please?

THanks in advance

We eloped. One reason (not the only one) was that my dad is in a similar position and wouldn't have been able to attend the wedding even if it was in the UK. I did a small cake and wine with a note to join us for wine and cake at the appropriate time and then did them a photo book straight after the wedding.

Recently I gifted Mum a spa morning voucher as a break for her and dad a nice plant for the garden and a bird feeder as he is pretty much chair bound and has a nice view of the garden from there. Sometimes you can find nice plants with appropriate names.

You can also Skype the service.

We're going to get photobooks printed for both sets of parents, but we'll probably get my parents a Gift Experience voucher to give them on the day, and a plant or garden centre vouchers to give to my in-laws (they like living plants, rather than cut flowers).

Completely stuck on what to give the bridesmaids, ushers etc though!

    Some great ideas already!

How about taking them out for an afternoon tea or something similar that can be more of an afternoon thing before your Dad needs to rest? If your parents are anything like mine they seem to appreciate/enjoy time spent together the most.

Or if you wanted to get them tickets particular show a lot of them do matinee performances on Wednesday and weekend afternoons so you might be able to get tickets for a 2-3pm start time instead x

Thanks for all the replies everyone

I'm getting a plant, taking them out for a meal and getting flowers delivered on the day of the wedding. We'll do albums when we're back, just struggling to get stuff on the day for them!

Are they near enough to bring them over just for an hour or you visit them for an hour?

Can you buy/organise and ask a neighbour / friend / local restaurant to deliver them a lovely afternoon tea/lunch on the wedding day.

We did green and blacks chocolate hampers for our mums - you can personalise bars and add or remove as much as you like think we did it for £20 each and that was a lot of chocolate!

How about something like this, my friend makes them and you can use 8-9 words of your choice, different colour frames and backgrounds and embellishments too

This was my proof to approve so isnt stuck down - I got the finished ones yesterday and they are fab x

I love the idea of a plant or tree for the garden, a rose bush that sort of thing.

We are getting the mums a pandora necklace each.

No idea about the groomsmen though, none of them do "smart" jobs that require shirts, so the old faithful cufflinks wont do. Bridesmaids will each get a bracelet. I'm getting my H2B a nice watch to open on the morning of the wedding too
