Gift List help please!

MrsI2Be, 22 February, 2013 at 09:13 Posted on Planning 0 13

Ok so we need to sort out what we are doing about gifts as we want to send out details with our invites.

We want to do a small gift list so that if people do want to get us a present then they have some ideas about what we would like. We were all set to use Debenhams as it seemed straightforward and people can either go in store or go online. However I've just googled to get some reviews and they are awful! There are recent ones saying that the website has been down for ages and people can't order anything or even see the list.

So now I don't know what to do-has anyone got any experience of debenhams or any other gift list service? Ideally we don't want one that is just online as some guests don't use the Internet!

Thanks in advance!

    Hi!

Were using John Lewis gift list service and it seems pretty straight forward so far. You just pick what you'd like, either in store or on the web (in store you get a coffee and a cake!). They also send you inserts to include in your wedding invites with gift list info on and deliver for free. I love John Lewis, though!

    Thanks for your replies!

Bonnie - that is exactly the sort of reviews I've seen online that are putting me off!

WW - we are thinking about John Lewis as an alternative, but our nearest store is about 40 mins away, so it is further for our guests to go if they don't use the Internet.

Has anyone else used John Lewis? Are they good at delivering the gifts afterwards etc?

Are debenhams and John Lewis really the only options if we don't want it to be only online?

We used John Lewis and they were brilliant. We went into the store to do the scanning but you can pick your list online. Gift vouchers can be included too. There were no reported problems with the website.

We were able to arrange delivery for a day that suited us. We had a long honeymoon so they ended up being delivered about 6 weeks after the wedding. I think they say they charge you for storage after 4 weeks, but we weren't charged anything. We also didn't have to pay anything for a Saturday delivery (which you do for normal orders with JL). They told me in advance that a couple of items were missing, and we were able to chose between picking them up in store or having them delivered through the normal post (they were small items). The vouchers have to be delivered registered post or collected in store.

They followed up after to check everything was ok with the delivery. When I mentioned one small item was damaged but I haven't had chance to call them yet or pop into the store, they mailed a replacement out straight away.

All in all, a very positive experience. Writing this does make me think I should write them a proper review!

We've used John Lewis, so far I've been very happy with the service and the website is really easy to use. Not had delivery yet but it's booked in Smiley smile

Thanks for the replies. Think we are going to go on a trip to our nearest John Lewis tomorrow and have a chat to someone and a look round.

Thanks for all the replies. We have been and registered with John Lewis today. They were lovely, so hoping the rest of the experience will be just as good!
