Gift Lists

Hello Sailor, 5 May, 2010 at 11:06 Posted on Planning 0 5

My boyfriend and I have lived together a while and are having a small wedding abroad, we weren't going to ask for anything by way of a present as we think people have spent enough to get there, but we have been asked by a couple of guests what we would like, ideally the answer is thomas cook vouchers, but i'm not sure if its a bit crude to ask, we also have an evening reception back here afterwards and have a similar situation here as friends that are coming to the evening only reception also want to know, we havent yet sent out invites so theres still time to include it, do you think it would offend anyone? we have several freinds that have previously asked for cash so i think its well received by our freinds

We just sent out a small gift list which had on it a couple of things plus thomas cook vouchers national garden centre vouchers and john lewis vouchers, nobody seems to have been offended by it so go ahead! x

    Hello Sailor

I was in exactly same the position as you. We got married abroad and I felt cheeky including a gift list for the reception. To be honest it probably caused the most arguments in the lead up to the wedding and I may have had a small gift list had my MIL not be so adamant that I MUST have one. In the end I said no and we simply ask for Lewis or habitat vouchers if people asked.

Theres a lot of walking on egg shells isnt there? i've just popped this text over to D (the future husband) to print onto little business cards, no one had really got involved least of all MIL we cant discuss the wedding in front of her at the mo as she's now decided she cant travel ?

The most important thing to us on our special day is that you are there to share it with us so we dont have a registered gift list at a store, instead if you would like to give us a gift, we would love to receive vouchers from Thomas Cook.

We've asked for contributions towards a honeymoon if anyone wanted to get us anything....not vouchers though as I've heard horror stories of things going wrong with vouchers and people losing the value of them.

I wasn't going to have a gift list but loads of people asked whether we were having one and since we are settign up a new home etc we do need a lot of stuff. so have got a small one at John Lewis. people suggested Thomas Cook vouchers but my only issue with them is that i would then be limited to booking those hols through Thomas Cook, which doesn't always have the best deals or the exact type of holiday i might want...
