Gift poems?

bgirl81, 1 April, 2013 at 19:38 Posted on Planning 0 12

We would like to include a poem about money instead of gifts in our invites, my partner does not want to mention the words money or cash.

I have told everyone we don't want gifts as we have everything we need and have recently decorated our house, so can't ask for argos or homebase vouchers, but people are insisting they want to get us something, is there a nice way of saying we would prefer cash maybe towards our honeymoon?

I have put the following in my invites:

    Our special day is coming

    We hope you can attend

"Sarah & Andrew are getting hitched"

Single days are at an end

We've been together quite a while

So most household things we've got

But if you insist on giving us a gift

    We suggest our "Special Pot"

This "Special Pot" will be used

    To send us far away

    A honeymoon destination

Full of sun & lazy days

More important than the "Special Pot"

    Is that you can attend

Because on this, our Wedding day

We want you there, our friends.

For those who wish to give a gift, we would be very grateful for contributions towards our dream honeymoon.

Most people on here (myself included) believe money poems are a big no no!

    Just keep it simple

Your presence at our wedding is gift enough but if you do wish to buy us a gift, a contribution towards our dream honeymoon would be appreciated.

    or

We do not have a gift list however should you wish to buy us a wedding present a donation towards our honeymoon would be appreciated.

    This.

I'm personally not a fan of the poems.

You don't need a cheesy poem to ask guests for honeymoon contributions.

This is what we're doing too. I didn't want to mention stuff about gifts, directions and places to stay so all those details are going on the wedding website. Sorry but I'm not a fan of the poems either, but it is a personal taste thing so if you like them have them.

Thanks guys, I don't understand people's problem with the poem though, just a but of fun isn't it.

We didn't necessarily need a poem, just a nicer way of wording things.

We did look at websites too but most you have to pay for and I still think its presuming too much.

A friend of ours is making a post box for us so maybe we could incorporate that?

If you want a poem have one, nothing wrong with a bit of cheese. ? Just be aware that they can be a bit marmite but from my experience the mums and grannies love them.

I personally didn't want to mention cash or put a gift list card in the invite so I put all the information on the website we set up and just added a line in the invite directing people there. (it was something like 'for venue location and gift list information please visit our website www....etc').
