Giving notice!

jen_84, 22 August, 2011 at 10:07 Posted on Planning 0 14

We're giving notice this afternoon and I'm so excited! It feels like the first official thing we've done for the wedding for a while! We did have a productive weekend buying a few bits and bobs for the venue decorations so I feel like we're getting there slowly but hopefully once we give notice my OH will start to realise we need to get our acts together! I just can't believe we've got less than a year to go now!

I'm dreading the questions they might ask my OH - he struggles to remember his own birthday let alone mine! It doesn't help that myself, my niece and my brother are all born within four days of each other (different years, obviously!) so he always gets confused about whose birthday is which! I might have to give him a quick test in the car on the way! Can't wait!

Yeah it is. I think it depends on where you go. My cousin said she didn't get asked anything! I think it's just to make sure it's a genuine marriage and not happening just to benefit one or both parties. I can let you know later!

We gave notice a few weeks ago, I felt like I was being interviewed. Glad I went in first to answer the majority of the questions and my h2b just had to confirm most stuff. He wouldn't have remember half the details. Got to go to main registry office now to get a licence. So complicated!

They might get worried about that?! I don't even have an engagement ring Smiley laugh Never wear them and I'm even considering just getting a cheap one to go on a necklace for my wedding ring. I know I love him eternally and I've never been a jewelery fan anyway. I'm also a bit nervous about giving notice and it doesn't help that h2b is intent on putting it off for as long as possible.

You can't put it off. Until you have a registrar booked, you can't book your venue, your photographer, hair/makeup, evening entertainment, send out invites etc etc.

Is there any reason you know of why he wants to put it off as long as possible? I couldn't wait to do ours, I think we did it within a few weeks of the earliest date we could get our hands on.

He's just worried something will go wrong down the line and wants to make sure the finances are sorted out first. I'm also not as blessed as your w2b to have a groom so into planning it. The more he can stay away from weddings the better in his eyes. Might have a firm talk with him today about it.

Thanks for telling me that as I thought they'd be done at the same time. I'm getting married at the register office so I assume it'd just be like here's the date you can get married then.

We'd both been discussing it for a while but it was him who asked me. I am absolutely sure it's what he wants, and if it isn't he's been lying as we did have that conversation a little while ago. I'm pretty certain it is mainly worry over finances and if I'm honest, laziness. Hopefully getting insurance will ease his mind a little. I'll look into it straight away.

Just got back and the registrar was lovely. We were interviewed together and separately but it was just questions about each others jobs, checking we weren't being forced into it etc. All the paperwork is done now though and now we can start thinking about the words for the ceremony! I just hope she's our registrar on the day as she was so lovely, but she said she couldn't guarantee it.
