I was also nervous but you dont need to be, at our council they took us both in a room together and asked us to confirm our address. OH then was asked to leave room, i was asked to give my full name and date of birth and Ohs full name and date of birth, both our job titles and if i knew any reason why either of us could not get marreid. then i was asked to leave and OH then answered the same questions.

Exactly this - Although I think different councils do it in different ways.

It's not too bad, honestly. For ours they didn;t even separate us, just confirmed names, DOB, address, father's names and occupations.

?Pretty much same as zoomo for us however when we went back to collect the paperwork (Im not sure what its called but that certificate thing that means they are letting you get married ? ) I panicked as to what either me or OH had said at the initial meeting as rather than have an occupation for my dad it said 'deceased'!!!! I had a panic and called my mum just to make sure he was ok Lol.

Nothing to be nervous about but good luck, we went for lunch together after just to make it a bit more of an 'occasion'

We werent given anything from giving notice not even a receipt about 2 weeks later we received a pack from the registrar which means that they had received all the paperwork their end.

some councils will send the paperwork other to the council you are getting married within whilst others will give you the paperwork to hand over but if itsb een a couple of months i would chase both councils to see if one has sent it across and if the other has received it yet

I've just looked in our files and it's a blue certificate, we had to go back to the town hall to collect it 2 weeks after we gave notice and then we have an appointment shortly before the wedding to take it to the registrar that is marrying us. I believe some areas do this but some might forward on direct. Also we are getting married in a different borough than where we live and gave notice, I would presume if you live and are getting married in the same council then there would be no need for you to have the paperwork in the meantime? Either way I would give them a quick call just to check x

It's nothing to be worried about! We were questioned in the same room, they ask you your name, DOB, job title and address, then ask each of you the same questions but about each other. They then ask if your dad's are alive and their job titles, and ask if either of you have been married before. That's it!

No not neccessarily. We didn't get any either, as our local office sent it to the office which would be doing our ceremony. A lot of places send it direct for you!
