Giving notice confusion

Peppery_Sneezes, 16 November, 2013 at 21:26 Posted on Planning 0 5

Hey everyone!

I'm very new and inexperienced at all this planning stuff, and have only just begun. Me and my OH have found a lovely venue that's licensed to hold civil ceremonies but it's not local... my question is, do you have to give notice at your local registry office, and if I do, how would that work if I were to get married in another county?

God, this is just the beginning!

    Hey and welcome

look at your local district registration website. We gave notice in the borough we lived in but we were married elsewhere. I don't know if it's different depending in where you live though.

I live in Essex but am getting married in Northumberland. I booked the registrar in Northumberland yesterday, 12 months before the wedding (no sooner) we have to then give notice at the registry office local to where I live. The paperwork you get from this you then pass to the registry office where we're getting married!

    Hope this makes sense!

If you are getting married in the UK you give notice in your Local office. If you are getting married abroad you don't even need to notify anyone in the UK.

(I'm a second timer, first time married in Jamaica second time live in the midlands, married in Essex. So I have done both,,, ? )

You give notice where you live. You book your registrar where you want to get married. Your local registry office may then send the paperwork direct to the office that will be marrying you, but you may also have to pick it up and send it on yourself (we had to do this - Southwark council).
