Glowing skin - any top facial regimes?

Snailsandsushi, 5 November, 2013 at 20:52 Posted on Planning 0 15

Hi ladies!

I was wondering if anyone has any good tips for getting that radiant glow for the day!

I've got five months to go, and not the best skin in the world (particularly my chin which unfortunately is quite visible so won't be able to get away with just make up).

Thanks!

I have just started using Liz Earle products in an attempt to get my skin sorted in time for my wedding and I have been really impressed so far, my skin is looking good and the stuff all smells really nice ;-)

I bought this little set so that I could try the products out...

Slou90 - pretty close! 23rd March here =] haha lots of water is about the only thing I've tried to do seriously so far! Which has definitely helped, but don't think it's going to get me all the way!

Miss Pickles - ooo, looks like a nice set. Maybe if they have samples....

Cut out thing like caffeine and alcohol (all the fun stuff) as it'll dehydrate your skin.

When you apply your moisturiser give yourself a mini massage to get your blood flowing (which in turn will bring nutrients to your skin).

I'd heard about the alcohol but no coffee too - ouch!!

Has anyone gone all out or is it really just enough to stick to the simple things?

I'd be very cautious of clean as clear and Clearasil and those kind of products. They're very harsh & personally I wouldn't ever use them (ex-beauty therapist).

Did the GP recommend you use that? Just out of curiosity... It might have changed since I did beauty (couple of years ago) and be better now.

Pugsley I'm after a new face wash and toner - moisturiser etc! I'm crap but need a regime ! I have been using elemis but find the night cream makes my eyes sting ( obv I avoid my eyes) but around them - what would you recommend. Naturally my skin is normal to dry ( specially dry on temples and in between brows - I can get quite an oily chin tho x

Night cream is the repairing cream as opposed to the maintenance cream. Therefore this will be a thicker consistancy than a day cream or normal moisuriser. Given this, make sure you're putting it absolutely no higher than your eyesockets as the skin there is particularly sensitive and it could well make your eyes water amongst other things. This is also why there are seperate eye creams, because the skin there is different and needs looking after!

Re, what you should use.. I trained in Guinot and Dermalogica so I am a little bit biased as these are the products I am used to.

Guinot do a cream cleanser with a matching toner which can be used on normal/dry skin. They're around £18 each. Make sure you cleanse twice (especially if you use makeup) and then tone once afterwards. These are gentle but will also help with the dryness as they won't strip too much oil from your skin.

If your skin has a tendancy to be a little dry then I'd recommend a gentle exfoliant once a week. Or alternatively, Dermalogica have a product called Daily Mocrofoliant which can be used once a day and is an extremely gently exfoliant. Don't ever be tempted to scrub your skin as this will make the dryness worse. Apply a very light pressure and just roll the scrub around your skin. Over scrubbing can make it worse.

Sorry, I have completely rambled on.

Main thing is, move away form Elemis. It might work wonders for some people but isn't for you.

Try to find a counter which will give you a mini facial and the cost redeemable against products. I think Clarins in the big department stores might do this. Then someone will be able to tell you exactly what you need as they will be able to see your skin first hand.

Again, sorry I've rambled on. Hope this helps a bit.

I'm seconding the post about Liz Earle.

I have fairly good skin but had never really got into a skincare regime as everything I seemed to try (Clinique, Clarins etc) made my skin flare up more than if I used nothing at all. Obviously I used moisturiser but that's about it and I just bought whatever was on offer in Boots.

However, after seeing the Liz Earle cleanse & polish top numerous "Best Cleanser" polls over the years I decided to give it a try. I too bought the "mini" kit so I could try before I bought the full size product. Since then I've never looked back - I have all the skin care products - cleanser, toner, moisturiser and the brightening mask is brilliant for a quick perk up. I'll be using it before I do my make up the morning of the wedding. My skin has never been better than since I started using the range.

If your budget allows it, I would highly recommend buying a Clarisonic face brush.

I have used mine for about 2 years now and where as I used to get regular spots and blemishes, I very rarely have any now.

I use it every day, (with my personal favourite Dermalogica face wash)

Keep it in the shower and recharge it every few weeks.

I've recommended it to a few of my brides who have been really happy with it.

    Hope that helps

    Amanda

I agree with Liz Earle cleanser comments - really works for me. Also, I have been using REN glycolic mask weekly for few months and it seems to be helping with blemishes and makes my skin more radiant so I would recommend this too. But just be careful with new skin care if your big day is just around the corner - you never know if you might react to something (especially if you're like me!)

    Hi,

Elemis is amazing, and a course of their capsules before the day gives fantastic results. if not liz earle is also great. Bare minerals make up too with mineral veil dusted across giving an flawless finish.
