Going away for Christmas/New Year

allthatglitters, 3 December, 2008 at 15:05 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 30

Who is running away this year? When/where are you off? Are you putting your decorations up and takeing them down before you go or after you come back?

I'm wondering where to put my case and clothes - all my summer clothes are in one of those vacuum bags under the bed so I should get them all out really, but the spare soom is full of Christmas stuff! I can see me getting in a mess!

That counts! ? Any escape is a good one!

Im really unsure about putting my tree up! We go on the 28/29th and are back on the 13th but my best friend is house sitting so i'd feel a bit mean taking it all down before she comes to stay?I could just leave the tree up and ask her to take that down for me and leave in the garage?

We go to Mexico, kind of a second honeymoon seeing at the first one was rained/stormed out! ?

We're going to Ireland once the schools break up and coming back just after New Year. I will be putting the decorations up maybe at the end of next week then taking them down when we get home.

Tbh, If I didn't have children, I wouldn't bother with decorations/a tree this year.

Not sure if I've mentioned this before (well maybe once or twice) but I'm off to Australia on Christmas day. Back late January via Dubai. Fecking can't wait. No decorations, no present buying, no cards and no blooming organised fun on NYE. Just sunshine and surfing for 3.5 glorious weeks.

    Oo Chicken! that sounds brilliant!

I just can't wait for the break, getting away from it all and relaxing. Are those going away visiting family/friends or is it just an escape from it all?

We're going to family. My aunt and her family (well all of us really, but moreso my aunt) have had a totally rubbish year, so we're going to surprise her and just turn up. My granny lives there too - not with my aunt, but on the island.

I was supposed to be going to Oman with my folks on boxing day, coming back on 31st, but we hummed and hawed for ages over hotels and logistics, and now I think my parents have lost interest in the plan (also, it's my father's 70th at new year, and we're having a huge party which he is being birthdayboyzilla-ish about, and which is proving to be a nightmare to organise). I could sooooo do with relaxing somewhere hot though, and I am v disappointed, so I may still go away somewhere by myself.

No wonder you're so excited about your trip Chicken! Sounds ace. ?

My parents have a flat in Spain, so there's a group of 8 of us going out there. H & I will be there from 22nd to 27th December, so won't bother getting a "real" tree. We do have a little fake (white feather in fact) one, that we use for years like this. So we've got something to put the presents under and help get us in the mood.

With the amount of clothes you plan on taking? I'm not sure LouM is that small!!! ?

I'm putting the tree up but we're not going till 28th and we're back on 5th so will take it down. MIL is staying in the flat while we're away so there's always hope she might take it down for us (unlikely).

We've booked a cottage in Ludlow for a week - going to stuff our faces and go for long walks/runs and read books and just be together. Really looking forward to it.

We're going to Las Vegas on Boxing Day until the 4th January.

The tree is up and it will stay up until we get back.

Christmas lunch is going to be nachos + fajitas ?. My parents are going to Spain for Christmas. My H's parents live a couple of hours away and we don't want to travel with us going away the next day, so that leaves us on our own. We don't want leftovers, hence the Mexican theme!

We went to Vegas over NYE a few years ago. We absolutely loved it. It's a fantastic party and the atmosphere with all the fireworks on the strip is out of this world. Enjoy!

We are off to Bath on NYE and return on the 3rd January. We are eating in the Olive Tree NYE, It's a blimming fortune per head but will be worth it as the food is out of this world.

I fly to Sydney on the 19th, then to Cairns on the 22nd, where I'm off on a liveaboard dive boat for 4 days to explore Cod Hole among other places. Then I'm spending a couple of days chilling out in Port Douglas, before flying over to Perth to spend a week with my brother and his family. My niece isn't counting down the days to Christmas, she's counting down the days until I get over there. It's been a year since I last saw her (other than via Skype) and I can't wait to give her a huge squishy hug!

I get back to NZ at 5.30am on the 5th and I've got to start work at 7am. Fingers crossed I clear immigration and customs quickly!

We are going to Florida on 14th December and come back on 31st December. Will be celebrating Christmas Day by the pool in a villa and NYE somewhere over the Atlantic.

No tree, no decorations and only small pressies for the children in the family.

I can't wait to get away from all the Christmas and New Year crap

Our decorations are up at home and we will take them home when we get back but we are going to Devon for a week from the 20th until the 27th. Staying in a gorgeous cosy cottage, including a hot tub. It will be decorated for us, complete with a real tree.

Chicken - Australia is gorgeous, we were there this time last year

Last year we went to Australia on the 6th December and didn't get back until 2nd Jan so we didn't do a tree or anything.

Chicken, wave as you drive past the Mickleham Rd and Essendon Airport junctions to my grandparents and sister, would you?

? at Fandango waving at couples in case they're Sophie. She would actually do that, too.
