Are there rules about who starts them? One has been started recently that kind of surprised me.

Not really but has historically (well in my time anyway) been someone close (in planning) to the person or a date twin...

theres no rules is there?! I alwasy think tho it should be someone who 'knows' the person, or is a date twin, so that is a personal thing..........but then what do i know hey!

No peeking until the eve of the wedding. IT IS THE LAW.

As for starting a good luck thread, I also think it should be someone who "knows" the person.

Threads are usually started by someone close, a buddy OR someone thats been around for a while. I admit I have started threads of people who I've either been close to, think fondly of OR who have been inadvertantly forgotten about......

i remember when I first joined, I was forming a good friendship with a girl here but was aware of others who were closer as they are planned together. I emailed the friend and asked if she was going to start the thread, and she appreciated my asking. didnt want to step on toes after all!

First rule: No peeking until you sign off or you'll get spots!*

Second rule: Don't talk about Fight Club.

*I may have added this bit in...

I don't really think there should be any rules except for "make sure that everyone gets one". I am worried now as I don't post much anymore, so not sure if anyone will consider themselves close to me - I might not get one!

Does it really matter who starts it? Surely all that matters is what you post in it?

Oh that's a bummer! Retrospectively, Chrissy, hope you experienced a great deal of GOOD LUCK and that all your dreams came to fruition on your big day and married life is the best!

Oh, Chrissy, that's a shame ☹️ I hope you had a wonderful day though.

Trickers, my wedding is on 22nd May. I am GeordieBarbie's retrospective date twin!

And I am the second most unreasonble person on here (allegedly) so I can't imagine anyone starting me one - except perhaps with a little vitriol!!

(Joke joke, don't worry, it's fine!)

I agree. I think if you grow close to someone and form a friendship with them it is almost your right to start a good luck thread for them.

Tbh, and I know I might be labelled 'ungrateful', 'petty' etc but if my good luck thread was started by someone I wasn't close to it wouldn't be the same as if someone I was close to started it.

IMO, from a starter of thread POV, I can see why it would be important to start one for someone you are close to and why you might be miffed if someone else got in there first!

From a receiver of thread POV, I can imagine it would be lovely to have it started by someone you were close to but I think also it would just be nice to receive one whoever started it! ?

I don't mind really, I mean I really hope there will be a thread for me, and it will mean a lot to me to read the messages, but I also know that there are so many weddings happening here (kind of in the nature of a wedding forum, innit?) that it is impossible to keep track of them all. Also, with forums you do tend to get out what you put in, so I could argue that by not posting much at all since Christmas, I have kind of forfeited my "right" to a good luck thread as I'm not contributing much to the community.

I guess what I'm trying to say is that, although I would be sad if I didn't have a thread, I would understand that it's not some sort of personal attack on me.

I would be greatful of just having one regardless of who started it. I personally dont think it matters but I can also see why some poeople would prefer their good luck thread to be started by a close hitcher/friend even. I hope I get one to Tina Smiley smile

Tina as sporadic posters but regular readers in the same boat we could start each other’s good luck thread if you like? As even if you’re not that well known I think the other brides like to wish everyone good luck x
