Good things to do on NYE?

Hugo Brambles, 9 December, 2008 at 19:56 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 5

It looks like NYE is just gong to be myself and the other half this year - MIL is working the next day so doesn't want to do anything and my parents don't really celebrate it. Any suggestions of what we could do? We've looked into having a meal out somewhere and haven't ruled this possibility out but gosh places are expensive - around £100 a head which is a lot to live up to. Hows anyone else celebrate NYE (who hasn't got to stay in because of the kids!). We can't go away anywhere as I'll be working NYE eve in the day and NY day.

House party - my brother is hosting this year so it will be a very informal meal, lots of drink and games of some sort (although poker is banned thanks to almighty arguments one year!)

We have done so in the past and had friends/family over but it wouldn't be the same with just the two of us! ?

We've done NYE on our own for the last couple of years (I'm not a massive fan of NYE anyway). We've had a nice meal, chosen a good film to watch, played silly board games and gone for a midnight walk up into the forest to watch other people's fireworks. So just a nice night in really.

We're going out for dinner, my favourite restaurant isn't doing a special menu so its just the standard menu! H parents are coming too.

What we'll do after that I'm not to sure, going to the pub is out as we'll have our 2.5 yr old son with us and I'm pregnant.

Also its my birthday on NYE so its always a day of chocolate cake for us!!

If it was just the 2 of us, and we were at home then we'd probably order sushi take-out, drink champagne and then retire...?

We tend to have house parties, too expensive to go out really and taxis are a nightmare either due to price or trying to get hold of one.

This year it's at my mum and dad's so me and H will probably stop over. Although H is working NYD so won't be too much of a hectic one.
