Good/Good

Katchoo, 27 November, 2008 at 10:02 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 73

Some Hitchers are really going through some horrible things at the moment, and some of the posts (especially the get it off your chest thread) have moved me to tears. In general the news is full of dreadful stories, such as what is going on in Mumbai.

So, can we have a happy post? Does anyone have anything good happening? Is there any light at the end of the tunnel?

I'll start -

I've just heard from my friend who was near Mumbai. Thankfully she is now safe and sound in Chennai.
It's my birthday today, and Mr K has presented me with a beautiful card which he has hand drawn.
Mr K is cooking me a surprise dinner tonight. I know it involves lobster as I spied one residing in the fridge earlier.
I had a lovely dinner with a new friend and his boyfriend last night and I think we're going to become very good friends.
I've passed the first round for entry into LAMDA (rather prestigious acting school) to do a BA hons.
Work is being less rubbish at the moment.

My bad things on the other thread were pretty flippant and I felt a bit pants after reading everyone elses. My good stuff is pretty much the same to be honest. I don't like to share too much of what's really going on here so ... I hope everyone has some lovely stuff going on and I hope you have a fab birthday (even though you called me names last week ?)

Mrs Jess, you have some fab things going on too. It's lovely.

LAMDA audition is late January. I'm very nervous already. I've applied to RADA, Central and various others as well. Fingers crossed. ?

    Happy birthday!

    My good things are:

    • I've got the last bit of painting in sight. Will finish it today (assuming I get off here and get on with it!).
    • Went to Ikea last night for a bookcase which is the next step in reorganising upstairs. Also had some ideas for future steps while we were there.
    • I had a good chat with the signing on man at the job centre this week (currently unemployed). He's the first person who has been interested and helpful that I've met there. He pointed me in the direction of a few sites to check out.
    • I should get my JSA today (first in 6 weeks). Wooohoo! Just checked and I HAVE just got my JSA. Lovely man at the job centre!
    • Considering its still November, I'm reasonably well organised for Christmas.
    • My friends and family are all well and healthy.

Good for me is not about me but it makes me feel good. One of me good friends had a baby girl last week and she is beautiful, healthy are such a happy little thing! My other good friend is due in march, and three of H's friends are due in march/july and june. My cousin is due in MAy and I am very happy for them all!

H's work is going really well, <touches wood> and we are doing well. So mcuh so we were able to buy ourselves a laptop, ipod and speakers the weekend! I can't remember the last time, if ever, we had anything like that for the house.

My best friend is doing really well in her placement for her trainee solicitors thingie, and that is fab!

We're off to Switzerland for a long weekend next week and we found out last night that we're being put up in an apartment/hotel rather than sleeping on a colleague's floor which is great news and the Uni of Bern are paying for it - not us! Whoopeee!

Our local mobile upholestry cleaning service came around and managed to salvage our armchair and rug (both only 6 months old) after our cat emptied her bowels on them both. The cost was £60 rather than £600 to replace them! Double whoopee!!

My best friend from the office where I used to work has just moved to my burb and she's a two minute walk from my house. We've already met for drinkies and I think I'll be seeing a lot more of her from now on. Which is fabulous because you can never have enough good friends. ?

The best thing in my life at the moment is that I should have heating for the first time in 18 months by the end of the week!!! I had to sleep in a hoodie and dressing gown as well as my PJs and socks the other night because it was so cold. ?

Another great thread! Here's my list:

Hitched has been really fun and interesting recently, after being slow for a while.

My annual review went well, nothing but positive feedback and a payrise (only small, but in current times I expected nothing - happy to have a good job).

Looking forward to going to Birmingham for 2 fab gigs in 2 days next weekend, staying with my Mum and having Sunday lunch with my Dad.

Quite organised for Christmas, and have even decided what we're doing for New Year!

Cat was the least annoying for ages when/just before I woke up this morning.

    Hecate, what's the game?

    Happy birthday and congratulations!

I'm off to my Masters class reunion on Saturday and my first night away from the sproglet!

I'm planning an overnight trip into London to stay with my best friend, lunch at the Tokyo Diner, and with a bit of luck, may even get to see Mrs Jess and some other cool people for a bit...

It's pay day on Friday, hurrah!

And I've just locked my cat outside so I can type without being a contortionist.

Well, I am being made redundant, which isn't good. And that has a knock on impact on our finances, which isn't good.

Despite this, I am probably at one of the happiest points in my life so far. I love being a Mum, far more than I thought I would and every day I look at my little girl and am amazed we made her.

While I regularly grumble about Mr RBH, I know that actually he is pretty great. He can be lazy and slovenly but he is caring, kind and loving and worships our daughter.

So actually for my grumbling, things could be 100 times worse.

Many good things for me at the moment:

    - My H found out yesterday that he's being promoted; he's going to be in charge of the manufacturing facility that his company is opening in the new year. Woop!

    - One of my best mates has got a brilliant new job

    - My SIL has been offered a permanent contract after her probationary period at work.

    - I had to go in to work on Saturday (bad), but meant that the big batch of chemistry that I was doing got finished early (good)

    - My Dad's bumcam results came back totally normal and he's feeling much better

    - I'm going to London next weekend to see lovely SIL and future BIL, lovely Best Man and his equally lovely fiancee, the Francis Bacon exhibition and hopefully Spamalot!

    - I saw my belly wriggle from my baby kicking for the first time

    - My sinuses no longer hurt anything like as much as they did. Huzzah.

I'm very near finishing part of my work life I hate.

It's our first wedding anniversary in a couple of weeks and we are going away to a fab hotel to celebrate.

    It's nearly Christmas!

I get paid tomorrow and so can pay off another small chunk of a credit card.

I may have received a Hitched author's book this morning which I am looking forward to reading

The builders will be leaving my home today (if they ever turn up that is!) as the 3 week job has now gone into its 9th week! But should be finished today.

We can get the house cleaned and sorted to make it look presentable for Christmas now.

    Am delighted!

Happy birthday! ? Best of luck with the applications too. ?

I found out this week that I'd passed some exams I sat in the autumn and which I was not overly hopeful about. I'm not so much delighted at the passing, to be honest, as relieved to have been spared the igominy of failing, because all of my colleagues knew that I was going for this qualification.

I went to spin class last night and felt good.

I slept for most of the night last night. Hoorah!

My sister is coming down to stay tonight and we are going out for DRINKS and to see/hear a friend DJ.

Tomorrow night I am going to see The View. ?

In that vein, it is nearly the WEEKEND!!!!!!! ?

    Happy birthday!

I'm happy because I'm loving my course and next weekend I have a seminar in London which I can't wait for (not least because I'm leaving the kids at home with H- a whole weekend being a real person ?)

I'm also happy because I'm moving back to London soon.

And to top it all off, I've got a whole crate of clementines!

    Erm

I think I've finally found a car to buy - my dad's going to check it out for me, which is fab, because he knows cars!

Even though my husband is stupidly busy at work and I've barely seen him for a few weeks, when we do speak he just seems so much more positive about his companies developments, it means when we are both at home we are a bit cheerier and can actually spend the time enjoying each others company rather than being grumps.

I'm really looking forward to my new job, and think I'm getting on top of my work here for handover.

My kitchen is on order, daddy's coming up at the weekend to do most of the rest of the electrics (he's a very useful man), our builder then should hopefully be coming in before Christmas to do our living room, and daddy (told you he was useful) is back in January to fit the kitchen.

Now, how to pay for it all...

Socrates is cool. He has floppy legs (Master I's leg is giving way a lot at the mo) too and big monkey ears that are good for listening. Master I is bothered about his hip at the moment, he's worried but won't really talk about it so hopefully Socrates may be a listening ear and I can eavesdrop.

    Great thread!

Good - I am happy because this week i have decided to participate in Hitched more and not be such a lurkster!

I have been to gym classes every day and my thighs hurt, which can only be a good thing.

I am eating prawn crackers (probably not good for the aforementioned thighs etc, but hey!)

I have done some work on my website this morning and am very pleased with it.

It's my friend's 40th today and I'm planning to phone him on his holidays in Hawaii to surprise him.

I've had a lovely customer on the phone and she always makes me feel so special, people like her make all the stressy ones worth while.

The Socrates puppett made me laugh out loud!

    Good:

I am getting new double glazing fitted tomorrow, so I won't have to cope with waterfalls running down my windows every day!

It's my works Christmas party tomorrow and I am going to wear a fab new cerise top and skinny black jeans!

I have ordered a new carpet for my lounge and my parents are paying half - I don't care about Hitched rules, there will be NO shoes on my new carpet for at least the first few months!

My boyfriend is lovely and I trust and love him 100% and he makes me smile a LOT!
