Some Hitchers are really going through some horrible things at the moment, and some of the posts (especially the get it off your chest thread) have moved me to tears. In general the news is full of dreadful stories, such as what is going on in Mumbai.

So, can we have a happy post? Does anyone have anything good happening? Is there any light at the end of the tunnel?

I'll start -

I've just heard from my friend who was near Mumbai. Thankfully she is now safe and sound in Chennai.
It's my birthday today, and Mr K has presented me with a beautiful card which he has hand drawn.
Mr K is cooking me a surprise dinner tonight. I know it involves lobster as I spied one residing in the fridge earlier.
I had a lovely dinner with a new friend and his boyfriend last night and I think we're going to become very good friends.
I've passed the first round for entry into LAMDA (rather prestigious acting school) to do a BA hons.
Work is being less rubbish at the moment.

What a good idea for a thread. Here's my good stuff...

    - I'm working from home today, waiting for my new mobile phone to be delivered, I've got the dogs and cats all snoozing in the lounge with me, the heating is on and I've got a nice cup of coffee. The husband has just phoned to say hello.

    - I've got ice skating at the Eden Project booked for the weekend, which I'm really looking forward to.

    - Christmas is coming and I have three weeks off, which will be a very welcome break, although I am finally really enjoying work again for the first time in a long time.

A work job has completed today, so I never have to deal with the horrible rude buyer ever again.

The plumber is at my house as I speak and by the end of tomorrow we should have a new boiler and some extra radiators, so I'll be cosy.

I'm 22 weeks pregnant and atm it's all going well. H is even beginning to feel the odd movement. ?

First off, Chicken I think you may be referring to me in the name-calling - I wasn't being serious, I hoped that came across, but if it didn't, I'm sorry and I don't really think those things of you.

Reasons for Tulip to be cheerful:

I have a fantastic husband and couldn't wish for anyone better. He really is the bee's knees.

My boss is letting me take tomorrow and Monday off, so I can try and knock this cold on the head and generally get my act together a bit.

We're secure financially, and when I've done a bit more tidying up, our house will look ace.

On balance, my life rocks. I just have learn to be patient with the bits that aren't falling into place.

Right, reasons for me to be cheerful:

Mum is home and on the mend

LOML is lovelier than a lovely thing

I'm going for a fab night out tonight with friends

Going for another fab night chez other friends on Saturday

I have developed a Persephone Books habit which, whilst expensive, is going to give me hours and hours of pleasure

My stew and dumplings last night was delish

A yoof on a bicycle said "Morning, gorgeous" to me this morning as I was leaving our estate - for some reason it didn't offend but really tickled me.

It's pay day tomorrow so finally I can pay off cc and go shopping ?

I'm off out with friends tomorrow night to the pub which should be good fun!

Apart from that I think everything else is much of a muchness which is alright ?

Don't think so ? My sis & nephew are in S. Africa

I'm his godmother and it'll be his christening whilst I'm there which I'm stupidly excited for! He was born at 24 weeks and had a really hard start to life but is now perfectly healthy, fat and happy, and absolutely gorgeous, can't wait to meet him in the flesh!

? to everyone's most excellent news.

My big, huge good thing is that I NO LONGER HAVE M.E.! I've got a letter to prove it ? so, any brain fart moments from here on in are my fault, and can't be blamed on the illness. In your FACE chronic fatigue [two fingers]

As a result, I have occ. health clearance to start a part-time job, which will hopefully help towards my shiny new career change plans.

And, I have an interview for the course I'd need to do for said new career - so that's one thing off the disappointment list!

Oh, and I have a wonderful husband, a hilarious toddler and a teenager who is mostly good company and v. v. funny

    1. Starting a new job on 4 January and am very excited.
    2. Found out that my boss at my current role is very sad I am going and has approached senior people to see if she is able to cut me a deal to stay - its nice to be wanted and appreciated.
    3. Am now off work on holiday until 14 December :-)
    4. Off to the Rugby 7's tomorrow although it did rain last night, so could be a bit of a mud bath.
    5. Going to see George Michael and Alicia Keys on Monday.
    6. Off to Italy (Venice and Verona) on Tuesday for 9 days.
    7. My mum is finally coming out to see me and will be staying for Christmas so will cook a fab dinner whilst we are all at work - her coming could be good, could be bad ha ha.
    8. I feel that I am finally getting my life together although I still have days when I cant quite believe that I am where I am.
    9. ex-Mr TB has finally admitted he needs to get himself sorted out and is having counselling which is a huge huge huge step for him, so well done Mr TB.
    10. Best friend is getting over the shock of her life and moving on and its hard, and horrible at times, she is so fantastic and I really love her and admire her.
    11. I have fab friends who are amazing and supportive and I feel very lucky.

So all in all, whilst its not all a bed of roses, its pretty good most of the time.

Aw am so pleased PL - yay!

I am feeling relatively chipper at the mo (or will do once I've got a little bit of work out of the way, feeling a bit homework-y at the mo!)

    Good things include

My toddler is an absolute delight and joy and has me in stitches laughing. I am loving the fact she really enjoys pre school and is learning so much.

My 7 week old baby is healthy and giving me massive smiles, even if her sleep is appalling!

Jester is coming to visit me next week and I've really missed her.

I am really beginning to enjoy living where I live, having met lots of people through the church and generally feeling more involved.

In essence I am truly grateful for my two beautiful girls, given I never thought I'd be able to have babies with MrB.

Oh and I got a nine letter word on Countdown this morning at about 3.30am ?

Wow - some fantastic good news from everyone. Many congratulations to everyone.

Me - I've finally put my holiday request in for Christmas week, so I'll be able to go spend Christmas with my parents and a few days after Christmas with my in-laws.

My in-laws are coming to stay for the weekend tomorrow. They live in Devon so we don't often get to see them.

I'm 19 weeks pregnant, after a couple of years of trying and one miscarriage.

I've just worked out that I'll be able to extend my maternity leave by 2 weeks by saving the 10 days annual leave I have left of my 2008/2009 entitlement and taking it in the last 2 weeks of March, then starting my m/l on the 1st April. Baby is due on 24th April, so that should give me 5 weeks at home, nesting (unless baby is early...)

It's almost time to go home.

What a great thread. I was thinking yesterday when reading other people's woes that I should be counting my blessings.

So, things I have to be grateful for:

I've now lost two stone and will fit into a nice outfit for the works Christmas do

I have a job I love, and have been made permanent at a time when so many people are losing their income source altogether

I have tomorrow off and can spend some 'me' time

I can go home in a minute, and even tho it's raining cats and dogs I don't care, because I'm working in a different office today which is closer to home so I will be home early for once

Mr GMT is cooking one of my fave comfort suppers - quorn sosies, baked beans, tommies and baked spud

What a lovely thread! so nice to concentrate on the good and not the bad for a change!

    so, my good things:

I've been married a month on saturday and it`s great

    Christmas is coming=time off work

Have lots of vouchers to spend in John Lewis on Saturday

Have a wicked-sounding wedding to go in a couple of weeks

I`ve got a job and a roof over my head-with lots of lovely new things in it

    Could be worse!

How lovely, getting a bit teary about all these nice things, especially RachelHS and her pregnancy.

    My nice things are

My parents have been down all day and they are SO nice and SO supportive, it's great.

We have been paid in full by a company that owed us money so we will actually have a Christmas bonus and a bit of a temporary relax about money for the first time in 18 months of abject poverty.

We have never been stronger as a family due to aforementioned abject poverty.

I just adore MrDD, and trust and fancy him, despite being together nearly 10 years.

This neighbourhood is great, a real sense of community that I have never had before. I'm half way through making coleslaw for lunch and I've run out of mayo and there are at least 3 people I can ask for some immediately.

OH yes, and our mortgage will be £300 cheaper a month due to our fantastic FA and his advice and one of my loans has come off at £300 a month too, so more tentative financial relaxation. Let's hope H doesn't spend it all at Rounder Records eh?

My son has had a really really nice report at pre school, I know they're unlikely to say something horrible, but it was so glowing and they said they absolutely love him. Who could want more?

My 17 month old slept all night last night without crying once. Needless to say I woke up every 1/2 hour wondering why..but it's all good really.

    Haaaaaaah. Mmmmmm.

Oh yes, and we're going to get fish and chips from Love's again tonight and they're he best damn fish and chips I've ever had.

Not a particularly earth shattering list of stuff, compared to many, but happy DaisyDaisy.

I'm loving work. Patients are nice, colleagues supportive. Work interesting and my professional development is going places.

Childcare is working out really well. Both children are cute and healthy and doing really well.

It's winter and I'm not depressed. Woohoo.

Looking forward to Xmas. Mostly the shopping has been done, and we have lots of nice things booked.

We have a mortgage tracking the BOE base rate?

    Happy Birthday Katchoo ?

My day started bad, but it's become absolutely wonderful. I woke up to a text from my friend today cancelling our planned weekend of food, wine and pubbing, she ended the text with a 'please call me later'. I was really feeling let down about the weekend being cancelled and i've been in a foul mood all day. Just called her and the reason she called off is because she's pregnant <squeel>

Oh, and H now has internet access so we can keep in touch.

Good luck for your next lamda audition and for any other auditions you've got coming up!!!! How exciting?!

Reasons to be cheerful: volume hubble.

Looking past the extensive snagging list and fact that the tiling supplier is derranged and needs a damned good hiding - my new house which we've been having built forever and just moved into- totally rocks. I am especially loving my dressing room.

Yesterday i nearly quit my job in a fit of rage, but i slept on it and today I fronted up to the headmaster (in a civilized manner) and he is now reconsidering his twuntish decision of yesterday which pissed me off so very much. It made me feel less demotivated - not much, but a little.

My husband is being great at the mo.

I have been appointed Trustee for the local arts council - meaning i get to help choose where the money gets spent and will meet lots of fab (and not so fab) arty types who will all be sucking up to me!!

Tomorrow is Friday and after that it's the weekend.

I still feel that i have a lot to moan about - but not in comparison to many of the posts on the other thread.

Keep your peckers up people! x

I love reading what everyone is up to, and all this good news. Hitched rocks.

I'm leaving my soul-destroying job at the end of Dec and starting the new year with a new job, part-time Masters and finally doing the photography course I wanted to do which starts at 6pm so I've never been able to do before.

Looking forward to being less grumpy with the husband and working 9-5.30pm will just be bliss.

Have lots of nice things with various friends planned this weekend.

My lovely car, which I'll have to sell due to pay cut in new job, isn't worth less than I owe on it, so I can sell it and clear the loan which is my only debt (er, apart from mortgage obviously).

H had a big windfall from work and we're planning a fab road trip up the Pacific highway next year.

    That's enough! ?

Aoife is almost 10 months old and is a fun and easy baby.

We moved from Edinburgh to Northern Ireland 6 months ago and it's going well. We're about to start renting a nice house and the cost of living in a lot lower so we're financially better off and can start clearing some more debt.

Due to moving, relationship with in-laws has improved, mainly because we don't see them!

OH has been promoted in his new job and he's only been there 5 months, I'm glad someone is finally seeing the potential that he has.

I am going back to university to do my masters degree in October and we have a plan to make sure we can afford it.

We are all healthy and enjoying being a family!

Nice to hear everyone's good news. Mine are:

*I'm planning a nice evening in with Mr Caterpillar before going off tomorrow to spend time with my folks.

*I have worked out what I'm meant to be doing with a difficult report I'm writing today (working from home) so have rewarded myself with 15 minutes hitching!

*My brother, who was so sad about the breakup of a serious relationship a couple of years ago, now has a lovely girlfriend and they have moved in together.

*Mr Caterpillar's brother and sister-in-law are coming over from the States for Christmas, and we get to see our niece who we've only seen once before.

*Almost everyone in my family is well and healthy (apart from my Grandma ☹️)

Yeah, alright, enough mortgage celebrations thanks - we just fixed last month for an obscene amount (200 quid extra to pay per month for 5 years) and then the interest rates tumbled. Arses. ?
