Got OH's wedding ring sorted

Weather Girl, 16 August, 2009 at 09:22 Posted on Planning 0 13

Just an excited post really to say OH finally picked his wedding ring yesterday ?. I'm more excited about his than mine lol. It's the same one he tried on at a different jewellers a few weeks ago but we managed to get it nearly £400 cheaper! Really chuffed!

I've tried finding a picture online to show you all but I can't find it. But it's platinum and has like a ripple effect pattern so that it catches the light and glints lovely ?.

All feels a bit more real now!

What have you all been up to this weekend?

Can I ask where you got your rings? I'm happy to go for something really simple (and inexpensive) as my engagement ring is vintage:-) however H2B is obviously only having a wedding ring and I don't think he has any idea what he wants!! Was going to head to argos at some point just to get an idea for shape/size etc and then go somewhere else - any recommendations?! Neph xx

H2B and I went to look at wedding rings yesterday. H2B is also looking at a Palladium ring, but we didn't see one in the flesh- Teehee, is your H happy with his ring? We could only see white gold in the shop, but said they could make it up in Palladium and it wouldn't look any different really.

We went to the Jewellery Quarter in Birmingham, as we live close by. Prices are excellent, considerably cheaper than high street stores. Nephelae, I'm not sure where you are, but could the Jewellery quarter be an option? Or Hatton Garden in London?

Choc-claire - my w-ring is paladium and my e-ring is platinum. H2B opted for white gold. All three together look almost identical, however the white gold will turn yellowish over time and will need replating. The platunum and palladiium are from the same metal 'family' and so sit well together and look identical, however the palladium is half the price of the platinum. My w-ring was designed to fit around my e-ring and would have cost close to £1500 if it was platuinum so i opted for the cheaper version.

    Hope this helps

Thanks sazelbean, that's very helpful to know. H2B was happy that palladium costs half the price of white gold, but since we hadn't seen one in the flesh we were still a bit unsure!

Choc Claire - I'm in Brum so I guess the jewellery quarter would be good. We went when we were looking at engagement rings but not many of the shops have old stuff, as we will prob get modern wedding rings that won't be a problem ? just have to try not to be intimidated ?! N x

I second palladium, OH had his ring made in that and it looks lovely. It is supposed to be stronger and more hard wearing than white gold but not as expensive as platinum.

H took great care in choosing his ring, he was a total fuss pot and every jeweller was surprised at how important it was to him. When he found it, it was 1800 bucks in Platinum, and about 800 in white gold...

He didnt want to give up and in another shop we found the same ring, in Palladium for 425. He loves it, and before we got married he kept sneaking it out of the box and wearing it, was very cute.

He is always wearing it and only takes it off if hes tinkering in the garage or when he gets home from work where he throws it in the change bowl grrrrr.... lolol.

I live in Sheffield but drove down to the Birmingham jewellery quarter for both my engagement ring and wedding rings because the prices and choice are fantastic.

My ring is 2.5mm platinum and cost £180

H2B is 7mm Tungsten Carbide with a silver inlay £65

Hiya, just to second the palladium option....my ER is platinum but the WR i wanted in Platinum woul've cost about £1600, but the same ring in palladium was half the price, it looks identical to the metal of my ER. Why don't you try some and then decide.

Thank you for all the advice ladies! I have passed this onto H2B also, he now seems very happy with the idea of a palladium ring!

Sorry I didn't get to reply yesterday - was a bit hectic! The ring is from Fraser Hart in Cambridge. I thought they had quite a good selection of men and women's rings.
