Green Tea - my new regime - help!!!

Specialkat, 22 July, 2009 at 22:05 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 12

I have signed myself up for 6 weeks of hell and have a personal trainer 4 times per week. I am 2 seesions in and he is recommending green tea for me to drink.

I have never tried this. Do you add milk to it like normal tea or have it like a fruit tea? Any recs for 'nice' ones as my 'friends' say it's vile!!

Green Tea is a bit of an acquired taste, but I quite like it. You drink it without anything added, but can brew it according to taste. I think you can get different added flavours now, but I've never tried them. Just bear in mind that unlike fruit tea, it does have caffeine.

I can't help you out with brands, but I find it very pleasant and mild. Don't add any milk to it, just have it straight up. Ice cold is nice in the hot weather as well.

There's a Japanese kind that has roasted brown rice in it that has a pleasant nutty flavour, and a Korean kind that has roasted barley in it. I like both of those as well as plain green tea.

I sometimes have some green tea with citrus which I think is made by Twinnings. There's a box of it at work and I just tried it out of curiousity one afternoon and actually it's quite nice and drinkable. Give it a go and you never know you might grow to like it!

Sounds like the easier side of the deal, personal training 4 times a week doesn't sound like my idea of fun but i'm sure it will produce results so stick with it!

The one with the toasted rice is Genmaicha. Yes green tea has caffiene in it but not as much as coffee or black tea. Decaffienated black tea has about the same amount of caffiene as green tea.

see here for some different flavoured green tea (or click on the link for Roobios and honeybush which is definately caffiene free)

Don't over brew green tea or it tastes bitter.... you can use a little honey to sweeten it if you like but I found that I didn't need to.

I prefer the green tea with lemon that you can get. The taste isn't as bitter. As everyone else said, no milk.

I like the Twinings one with Orange and Lotusflower - I think the orange takes the edge off. You have to brew it for only a minute or two otherwise it can be quite bitter at the bottom of the mug.

When you make green tea, don't put boiling water on the teabag as it can "scorch" it and make it bitter. Use water that has cooled a little bit.

    Hi

Thought I'd throw in my tuppence worth. I bought some 'dieters' green tea from China Town. It certainly did what it said on the tin...I've never moved so fast in my life as after I'd drunk that and needed the loo like never before! I'm sure the normal stuff is fine though ?

Thats interesting to know Jo, I dont do caffeine as it gives me bad headaches so I even drink decaf green tea - didnt realise the amount of caffeine in GT is the same as decaf black tea though - Id love to be able try other flavours of green tea but have always been put off by the caffeine thought... maybe now I will give it a go

On the subject of green tea flavours, Twinings do a Green Tea with Mango which is gorgeous!
