Greetings Hitchers, I have returned to this site after a while away. didn't flounce or anything, just other stuff going on.

A couple of questions:

I'm a HIB and I advertise on Hitched but i think something has changed and you have to register as a HIB?

I'm also getting 'not married' in October. My parter and I have been together 15 years and are not getting married for assorted reasons but decided we do want a special day. So we are celebrating our joint 40th Birthdays and our 15th Anniversary with a big do and i am going to wear a special dress etc, though not in white. So can I join in the planning discussions or am I not allowed as I'm not a proper bride??

"Non" Wedding planning sounds like a wonderful idea, love to hear what you are coming up with.

    Cool, thanks. ?

10 October, how about you? I'm not saying I have much to do but we haven't finalised the menu, I haven't got a dress, I don't know how I'm decorating the venue, I don't know what sort of cake to have and whether to make it or buyone, I don't know how many people are coming as they won't flipping reply, and most importantly, should my dog come??

I don't know how you guys manage to actually get married, this is stressfull enough!!?

Ah thanks. It's not that different really, just no ceremony. Just trying to do things that we like and that our personal to us. One of the things that got it going was his mum saying that when a couple get married their families and friends all meet. if you don't get married, this doesn't always happen. our parents have met, but she was saying for example she hasn't met my sister and her kids and she'd like to. I used to really want to get married but my partner didn't. but now I'm ok with it as lots of things have happened in our relationship that have made me feel secure and loved by him, and now after so long I'd be worried it would change things.

I'm happy we are having a special event though. We are having a canal boat trip with a jazz band, then an evening party at a small museum which we get the full run of. I will wear a nice big dress but it won't be white and I will decorate the venue in probably quite a colourful way. I thought about wearing a tiara as I make them but decided it looked odd - not sure if it's because i'm too old or if it was just too bridal! but i will make myself some nice jewellery and probably something for my hair like clips or a comb or hairvine.

Some of our friends and family regard it as an important and special day, while others think it's just yet another 40th birthday party (lots of our friends turning 40 this year. Yes ladies, I'm old). It's quite curious that if we preceded the do with 15 mins in a registry office, those people would regard it totally differently.
