Groom drumming at own wedding

MrsM*LZ, 21 February, 2013 at 20:05 Posted on Planning 0 10

Hi all,

Am just wondering if anyone has experienced the groom playing in a live band at their own wedding?

My OH is in a band with my brother and I think it would be great if they played for a bit, even just or half an hour then we can have a dj for the rest of the evening. Just trying to work out the logistics of everything!

We would just get in another band if it proves to complicated!

Don't know what to do for the best!

One of my couples later this year is doing something similar to this, they have several bands though and the groom will be playing a smaller slot I believe? Not sure though as there's still a few months to go until the wedding!

Personally I'm stoked because I'm both a wedding and music photographer so things like this combine my fav two types of photography! Smiley laugh

A friend of mine had her husband and his band playing at their wedding last year. It was really good and she was really proud of him and he was playing to her at Points. I think it made it really special and unique. They had a half hour slot at some point during the night and it worked really well.

One of my Grooms plays in a band and he played for about 30 minutes and then the band carried on after for the rest of the night.

    They got to do it.

I used to play the drums but we did not have a band at our wedding but I got to play Island in the sun with a reggae band on honeymoon in Barbados.

    Let them play

I don't play the drums anymore but I do play the guitar (for my own enjoyment and relaxation) although I do start to hear all the doors in our house slamming shut when I play!

    Hi,

It's a fantastic idea! We've covered a wedding where first of all the bride's step father played with his band, and then the groom played with his band - it was absolutely brilliant - so much so that we stayed until 11pm to photograph it all!

I always think anything you can do to personalise your day is brilliant, and will make it all the more memorable for you and your guests too.

I've been to a wedding where the groom did a couple of sets with his band - was awesome.

Yay! I'm glad everyone has said go for it! I think it would be a brilliant idea, its just the logistics of setting it drums up.

Our room gets turned around from the wedding breakfast to the evening reception so i'm thinking that OH can be milling about for a while whilst my brother sets his kit up then, hoping no one notices, OH dissappear to fiddle about with the finer details then the hotel can usher the other guests into the room and the band belt out a song!

Thinking it would be a cool idea to try and keep it secret!

Wondering about the rest of the evenings music though - would a playlist be sufficient or do you think we need a DJ to get everyone up on the dance floor etc after the band have finished?

    Exciting times!!

I'd get a dj to be honest. After the band a playlist could fall a bit flat?
