Groom gifts...when? how? eek!

pinkglitter, 22 June, 2011 at 22:53 Posted on Planning 0 2

Hello

Am sure this must be a stoopid qu but what is normally done for these? I was planning to give OH a couple of little things via his best man so he can get them in the morning (so far a hankie embroidered with our date and an engraved money clip, maybe some groom socks too, and a card) but then saw in a wedding report that bride/groom gifts were exchanged during speeches? I don't want there to be a really awkward bit where i was supposed to give him something and didn't!! And i cannot recall what happened at recent weddings.... Was also planning to do BM gifts in morning as jewellery so was not planning to do other gifts 'on show' as would look like only got them for some people IKSWIM?but equally do not want to commit some massive faux-pas! eek! Also are the gifts normally big / small? was planning on spending c£20 all in?

I got a journal for him and have that to fill in from oh so cherished website...that would fit your budget if you can fill it!

We will exchange gifts the night before not in the speeches! I will give it wrapped up to the best man to give him!!

Talk to your OH. That's the only sure way to find out if he's planning on exchanging gifts during the speeches and if so what the value you agree on should be.

We're passing little gifts to each other the evening before to open in the morning, and my b2b knows that I have a couple of small humourous gifts to give her during the speech but I'm not sure if she plans to give me anything in return.

In all honesty, the greatest gift you are giving on the day is each other, so anything material you give will pale into insignificance alongside them.

Personally I hate the big showy speeches where everyone and their dog get given gifts - takes ages, and frankly gets a bit awkward as people invariably start comparing gifts.

I've not heard of groom's gifts being given during the day? I've bought my OH a watch and will give it to him the night before to open on the morning of the wedding. I've also paid to have a couple of diamonds set in his wedding ring but he'll know about these when we pick them up.

Like AJ I don't like the 'prize giving' during speeches - long and boring for guests!
