Groom stressing out about outfits..help

paulandjen, 20 November, 2011 at 21:51 Posted on Planning 0 6

Weddings not until May and its meant to be a low key occasion however I can't help but get anxious about what to wear. Bride has sorted her dress out this weekend but I'm left with myself, the father of the bride and my best man.

Do we hire or do we buy? - Small budget approx £400 for 3 of us!!!

I'm 5'10 and 13 stone so a little tummy and baby face, while the father of bride is 5'3 and dumpy, best man is 6ft average build. I want waistcoats and cravats but can't decide of suit style?, how about the trousers slim fit, regular fit? Registry office ceremony so not St Pauls Cathedral but want to look the part for the photos.

Do I work the suit around the father of the bride as he has the most difficult build?

Is black unacceptable at a wedding, even in the slightest?

Help!!

Paul.

This may sound silly but why dont you see if you can go and talk to a suit hire company. They are the experts and I am sure they would find a style you liked while taking into account all of your shapes and sizes. (If they dont they dont deserve your business!!!)

    Good luck

    Hi,

Not sure about the build bit but just wanted to say lots of places hire suits for less than your budget (we've found them for £100ish per suit including waistcoat, cravat, shirt and shoes) so don't worry about that bit - you might even bring it in under budget! And they adjust the trouser length as standard so I guess it would be find even if your FIL is shorter.

The shop we're going for which is independent so probably no use to you didn't have black but did have a very dark charcoal colour so if you wanted dark that might work? My OH chose a light grey one but they had loads.

To my mind you don't get to wear tails etc very often so if you can find something you like I'd go for it!

    Good luck!

Would like to go in there with an idea, can we afford there service? Never had to deal with wedding suits before closest I've got is my Para uniform.

Hi, some websites do give prices. Not sure where in the country you are, but here's the website of Harrogate Suit Hire, where we got ours from, and they actually give you prices on the site. They booked an appointment for me and OH to attend first, we sorted his suit out and then The Best man and Usher went in quoting our wedding to get measured themselves for their suits. The boys are all going together to try on the suits one last time before picking them up to wear for the wedding.

They were very helpful and advised on best styles for each build.

    http://www.harrogatesuithire.co.uk/

    Also look online at:

    Slaters - they currently do a £75 package (per suit) : https://www.slaters.co.uk/

    OR: Moss Hire: https://www.mossbroshire.co.uk/occasion/weddings

    OR: Youngs - https://www.youngs-hire.co.uk/

You've got a few to look at there! One word of advice from a Bride - either take your fiancee with you when you go for first appointmnet or at least get the Best Man or the Father of the Bride to have a peek at her dress without giving you any details so that they have an idea if the suit you choose is going to go with her dress - if it's a classical bridal dress, you won't look nice in pictures if you're wearing something contemporary. Similarly, if you are wearing a morning suit and it turns out she is wearing a very modern, minimalist wedding gown, that would look bad too!

    Hope this helps!

Do not fret! That's supposed to be the brides responsibility lol!

We've used an independent company near where we live and they've quoted us £115 per suit which includes tail coat, trousers, shirt, cravat, waistcoat, cufflinks and shoe hire.

I personally think hiring is the best way as most companies will make temporary alterations (at no extra cost) on any of their suits for hire and it costs alot less than buying one of a similar style of good quality!

My OH is 6ft 1 chest size 44 and waist of 40, his best man is 6ft too but super slim like 32 waist and chest size 38/40!

His ushers are his bro who is the same height but bigger waist and chest and my brother is tiny! I mean 30 waist and 5ft 7 and my dad is 5ft 6 and 34 waste so we have sizes all over the place too!

I would say the best thing to do is go for the style YOU like! It's your wedding day after all ?

Everyone else will wear what you want them to wear!

And if you want black go with ,but alot of places will advise against as it can look too harsh.

My OH chose tailcoats which I wasn't keen on but once I'd seen him in it my mouth dropped lol!And it suits all our guys!

Many designs suit many shapes so just go with what you want, don't stress about what other people may want as it's not their day!

    Hope this helps!

Thanks everyone with your replies, much appreciated. I'll take a look at the websites and might even visit some local tailors for advice "as a potential customer".
