Groom/BM cars?

Mellypoos, 1 August, 2014 at 09:31 Posted on Planning 0 14

The last biggish thing we have to book for our wedding is the cars. We are only going a short distance away and the entire day will be in the same venue so we only need the car for the short journey there. I was looking at getting a white hackey cab as there are a couple of companies in Edinburgh and they seen quite reasonable for the hire considering we won't be needing them long. I dont want to spend £300 just to go a few miles.

My OH isn't reaslly sure he wants a car and says he is just going to get a taxi, as he isnt sure yet whether he will stay and get ready in his own hotel (ours for wedding night) or go up to the hotel where his family are and go up to the venue from there.

what are your OH's doing about transport?

Mine is haven't any, he's staying at our Reception venue which is very close to the Ceremony venue so I think his BM will take him.

Mine will be staying in our house the night before and either driving himself or his BM will drive him to the venue on the day.

I'm staying at the venue the night before with my BMs in one big room... so no transport costs for us.

It worked out so much cheaper to book one hotel room rather than x number of cars.

As my OH gets Kicked out of his hotel at 12 he'll be goin to his mums to get ready. She lives a 10 min walk from the registry office so OH is just going to walk funny enough on the walk he'll be walkin past the reception venue too!

My bridal party will be getting a taxi bus from my house as it's only a 10 min drive!

My Oh is having a baby blue London taxi to take him, best man and my two lil boys, his mum literally lives 5 minutes away from the church but he's late for EVERYTHING. this way I know he'll be on time lol

My partner was the same, he was happy getting a taxi with the grooms party to the venue. No one sees them arrive anyway so they really dont need a fancy car.

But in the end the place we got cars from did us a 3 car deal so ended up with a posh people carrier type thing for the grooms party, a car for my 2 bridesmaids and then a car for me and my mum.

We've managed to borrow a 'Back to the Future' Delorean which my OH and Best Man will be travelling in to the church. As for me we've hired a Morris Minor which we've done as a self hire which we will be collecting on the Friday before our wedding and returning on the Sunday after our wedding.

So my dad will drive me to the church and then my OH will drive us to the venue. I just thought it was such a cute idea.

We're not actually bothering with transport for the BM's as our reception venue is about a 20 min drive from the church so thought it would make everything easier for them if their cars were with them.

I think getting a taxi with the BM and ushers from the city centre out to the venue. Or the BM might drive, I'm not sure.

Tams that sounds AMAZING!! Where in the country are you and who have you got the delorean off? I was hoping for a morris minor for my car but haven't found anything yet.

My H2B and his BM will probably be driven by his dad to the road the venues on then they're hoping to make the last bit of the journey on a tandem!

My OH is has a 1984 Porsche that he is restoring (although I think he's making it worse... It used to run but now it doesn't...), anyway that is supposed to be ready for the day so he'll be driving that! We are stopping at the venue that night so we'll go home in it the next day!

All of these ideas sound great! I'll be driving to the venue early with my BM and mum as they have an area for the bridal party to get ready and relax with a glass of champagne Smiley smile My OH will either drive or his BM will drive him - we're staying at the venue (it's a hotel) overnight so there's no need for fancy cars. It's almost a shame, especially after i hear all your lovely ideas!
