Grooms speech?

L&C, 28 November, 2011 at 18:14 Posted on Planning 0 10

My OH has finally sat down to write his speech 3 weeks before our wedding. Now he is desperate to show me it...should it be a surprise for me on the day? What do you think?

Try and keep it as a suprise. I think as we've planned the day we get hardly any surprises! I'm making sure all the speeches are a secret from me although I know MrApples will be desperate to tell me coz he can't hold his own water!!!

Thank you MrsApples! That's what I have told him, he will just have to hold it in for a little while longer.

    Definitely a surprise! Smiley smile

With my photography head on, your reaction upon hearing the speech for the first time may well make for some lovely photographs.

I was just having this exact conversation with my OH as he only sat down to write his today with just under four weeks to go. He is really nervous and wants to do as much as possible without looking at notes so he is going to practice a little bit in front of me to build confidence but he will still keep some bits a secret - I think it's nice to have a little surprise.

Most grooms start their speech by thanking their guests for coming and thanking everybody involved in planning the wedding including parents, the bridal party, and anyone that has made a contribution such as baking the cake or making bombonieres. When you are going for speech ,Take before the rehearsal and Plan the speech by remembering the important seats.

My hubby wrote his speech the night before the wedding ?. It took him 15 mins and I was V worried about it. But on the day it was really lovely and he did excellent. I loved the fact that I did not know what was in it too as it was a nice surprise. Could he not practice with his BM? x

If he needs some female input, could he read it to your mum or one of the bridesmaids?

My H was so excited about his that he wanted me to hear it before the wedding but he missed out certain sections ie the sections about me and my parents, Come the wedding day even though I had heard bits, I was still completely blown away with it and very emotional. I think it is quite sweet that he wants to share it with you, just not the whole speech!
