Group shots for wedding?

katie80uk, 2 September, 2014 at 13:54 Posted on Planning 0 16

My photographer has asked if we want specific group shots done on the wedding day and he wants a list of names so these people can be called quickly for the photos

Anyone else done this? I do want some nice ones of my family and maybe few of friends etc all together but thought he would be doing that going round on the day

More things to think about...ARGH!!! lol :-(

It's fine just tell him the essentials you want, usually immediate family/important family and friends will do and cut it there. Even though he's asked for a list there's no need to go overboard and send him 50 combinations otherwise all you'll see are endless samey samey shots and nothing especially creative/interesting from your day

I can't really add to what Marianne has said, but what i would say is that it might be helpful for someone else to also have a copy of the list. Our tog (who was pretty rubbish to be honest) forgot his list on the day so had to make it up. The whole thing is a bit half a**** which is a shame.

They're a nice memento even if you're more interested in the creative fun pics.

Oh yeah good shout I usually advise a list to be given to an usher more so they can help call people/they're more likely to know who people are.

My Tog suggested 10 formal shots just so they get done and to keep the grandma's happy!

    we had

Whole group, as in all guests

Bride and Groom BM's and Best men

Bride and Groom Groom immediate family

Bride and Groom Bride immediate family

Bride and Groom Groom extended family

Bride and Groom Bride extended family

    Bride and Groom Brides Parents

    Bride and Groom Grooms parents

Bride and Groom and whole wedding party (BM's best men, ushers, parents)

Bride and Groom and Friends (we have a little group of us who are all planning weddings and we have a shot of us all together at each one)

She said each takes around 5 mins so an hour is easily used up gathering people. I think we did a couple more variations as people were hanging around so we grabbed them.

Also a good point about having a duplicate list. My ushette had one.

I always take 5 copies of the group shots with me, 2 for the ushers but if they disappear then I have another two copies for the bridesmaids who to be honest 9 times out of 10 they will do a better job of getting the people needed for the photos?

Ha ha! Five copies!?! I thought I was bad taking two since the usher/best man usually vanishes whilst rounding up groups so often I resort to calling out myself.

As for the original question, like Marianne has already said there's no need to create groups for no reason at all. If there's no particularly family need for them then just get a few with immediate family. Ie. parents, siblings just so you have them.

Trust me, your photographer won't be disappointed if you only give him a list with 2-3 names on it!

Yeah marzipan that's what I'm afraid of. My partner has so many family and his mum will want pictures of every available combination. Means won't get any pictures that I want. I feel like saying it's my wedding I'm meant to just get pictures of the bride and groom lol but I'll try and work out a few to keep both sets of parents happy x

I usually advise allowing 3-5 minutes per group shot. The actual taking of the photograph takes no time at all. Herding all the cats into one spot is what takes the time. So Marzipan, tell your H2B that so he can see roughly how long you'll be stood there for.

It can be done if you work out the list right in the first place but like Martin said it could take anything from 3 to 5 minutes per shot depending on your bridemaids getting those people to the photographer and if your guests don't mess about too much, always get the photos out of the way 10 to 15 minutes after the ceremony other wise if you do them later in the day then people might go missing or they have a few drinks in them then they mess about which will hold things up.?

Just make sure you have enough time to do them, people soon get bored after 10 groups and ask if they can stop?? they created the list ??
