Groupon/Wowcher etc.. Random things you buy

Panjita, 12 September, 2013 at 16:55 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 25

Do any of you use these voucher type website things? What random things have you bought?

I've just purchased an online course in writing for children...? I am quite excited about it but it is not something i'd never have gone looking to buy. I'm wondering if it will ever get used.

I also bought myself a boudoir photo shoot but I will be too chicken to ever use that I think.

<EDIT> it is a course on how to write children's stories rather than teaching children to write.

Bought some sofas on Groupon. For £250 they were a bargain, though nowhere near the quality of the £1500 they were apparently worth!

I got two sewing courses on Living Social at the start of the year. They were brilliant! Completely re-ignited my love of craft. I've since replaced my sewing machine and see all the time Smiley smile

I don't think I've bought anything particularly odd or useless. The biggest waste of money was 6 sessions of microdermabrasion which just made my skin break out horribly. I had been wanting to try it for a while though.

I went Zorbing with my OH through a deal on groupon. It was fantastic, I would definitely go again. My mum quite often buys stuff and feels it wasn't worth the 'before price' they say it is worth. She got an engraved bracelet apparently worth £59 for £10 and its basically a pink piece of string with what looks like an animals identity tag on it! It looks rubbish.

I bought a software disk to write novels and ended up giving it to my mum - neither of us have even taken it out of the packet! Dunno what possessed me! I did buy lots of other stuff that I used - boudoir shoot (loved it!), gym passes, archery lessons, beauty treatments... I was getting so addicted, I had to 'give it up' before the wedding cos I was literally running out of money!

Ooh I do love groupon. Baby photo shoots and canvas offers... House is now full of them and now need updating.

Also always get some great deals on hotels/holidays: £125 for a week in Tenerife, bargain!

Oh mistakenly bought a photography course that he's never used... Using groupon while drunk is never good Smiley smile

Bought a sofa bed that never arrived and that was a nightmare.

We often use Travelzoo or Secret Escapes for meals and nights away etc.

Ive used Groupon for eyelash extensions (going in on 26th Sept) and a shoe making workshop, making baby's shoes as a baby shower present for my friend. we're doing that next week.

I've found you never get what the product/service is claimed to be worth!

I bought a haircut and manicure. In effect I got my hair cut while some salon junior painted my nails at the same time. They were horrific. I was expecting to have hair cut, go to nail bar and have a proper manicure, as advertised. I then bought an afternoon tea once, ours came and was fine, but we had a couple of sandwitches each, and some cakes. I saw the people at the next table obviously paying full price and got triple the amount of stuff!

I know what you mean. We had a meal off Travelzoo and it was supposed to come with Prosecco. it didn't. It came with Lanmbrini ?

I told the restaurant manager that it said Prosecco on the voucher (pikey!!) and said that what he had poured us was not Prosecco. He insisted it was. I then said "well it's not and I know that to give us two glasses of Prosecco you will have to open a bottle so i would be prepared to purchase the remainder of the bottle for £10" (full bottle was £25). He agreed. The proper stuff was lush.

I think if you have a little whinge sometimes it pays off. (I love complaining)

We had a great experience with Travelzoo - we went to Maze, by Gordon Ramsey and it was gorgeous. I guess it depends on the place?

If it was something that really couldn't be altered to suit those paying full price and those paying offer, then I'd do it again. A night in a hotel is a night in a hotel after all. Suppose if it was a posh place for a meal they wouldn't really be able to under deliver.

Oh yes, I also bought HD brows for £12 instead of £30 odd - what I got was an eyebrow wax (I'd wanted them threaded) and tint - which costs about a £10 normally, nothing like what HD brows are supposed to be - rip. off.

Himself brought me a massage from groupon ages ago, unfortunately it was in the next city over to us which we never go to, so I never used it. We've also had a falconery (sp?) experience which was brill, I also got a urban decay makeup box thingy which was a great price even though I really wear makeup.

Cinema tickets, a weekend away, afternoon tea, photo shoot, London bus tour, floatation tank session, motor museum tickets (for the OH), a bag, a spa day, a meal at a Hilton, two photobooks and a giant jenga. I also bought some dance classes but I chickened out and ended up not using it.

I do like Groupon, wowcher and livingsocial, we have been able to do some nice things for a fraction of the price.
