Grrr, Debenhams shoddy service

Fozzy Bear, 6 April, 2009 at 17:37 Posted on Planning 0 17

I ordered a size 6 BM dress online, as I thought it would be easier to get than instore. Paid the extra £5 delivery. They delivered a size 10 dress. OK I thought, I need a size 10 but was going to pick one up in store, so requeswted the delivery charge be refunded. OK.

So I order another size 6 on line. And they deliver another size 10 which this time I don't need. So I email them again, and this is the response I get.

"You contacted us recently to advise you were sent the incorrect item.

After further investigation, we have found we are unable to supply the item you require as no further stock is available. Please accept our sincere apologies for any inconvenience caused.

If you have not already done so please return the item you were sent in error, along with a completed returns form. If you require a courier to collect your parcel, please let us know.

Once we have received your return a full refund will be issued.

Kind Regards,"

So now I have to try and get a size 10 made into a size 6, or send them both back and choose again - my wedding is in 11 weeks time!

harumph.

Could you not try to ring round some stores to see if they have any in stock? Might be easier than trying to change your theme?

I know from experience that Debenhams online and Debenhams in store are like trying to deal with 2 separate companies!! Just never try to return something you have bought online in store! x

Is a size 6 classed as a size 10 in some countries?? Maybe they think that........??

I wouldn't be surprised Teehee, but it was ordered on the UK site.

I expected more from Debenhams TBH.

Since you have been having so much bother with Debenhams I would try and contact a dressmaker and see what they think before returning the dress. Is there much detail on the BM dress?, it might be altered quite easily.

This is the dress, do you think its feasible to take it in?

She's tall but only 14 so hasn't filled out yet.

Their refund policy changed a few months ago...you CAN now return items bought on line to a store, just take your paperwork in.

It does sound like it's been a hassle though. Stick it in writing again, you may get a gift card or similar.

PS, if you do this you could argue for Debenhams to reimburse the price of any alterations (keep the receipts). Good luck!

If the back is quite plain I would think it would be easy enough to take in...just get a padded bra though ?

I'm not sure it can be taken in, its a side zip, and there are 2 panels either side of the centre seam and then the 2 side panels.

I'll take it into town on Thurs and see what Quickstitch say.

When we were doing our gift list we were told that Debenhams Online is completely different to the stores, with a completely different distribution network, so there's a very good chance that the stores may have it even if Online don't.

You should be able to call customer services and they will help you locate a product - they can see which stores have which products. If it is too far away to collect then you can liase with the store for them to send it to you at a minimal cost. I've done this with success.
