Grrrr! Favour problem!

~Lee~, 23 July, 2012 at 20:24 Posted on Planning 0 25

So we decided that we were going to have personalised M&Ms for the wedding and bought various colour samples from the m&ms shop in london. I then colour matched the green m&ms to the ink I used to hand stamp all the favour boxes which I made from scratch and took me around 15 hours to do in all.

When we went to the real shop there were three green colours - I specifically asked if they were all available on the website and was told yes. When we ordered from the website the darkest colour close to green was called teal and looked a bit blue, but we assumed that it was just the website and ordered anyway.

Well it wasnt. They dont do our colour personalised and the teal really doesnt go at all with the green card and ink used for the favour boxes! They are quite expensive and dont want to waste them!

So do any of you know a Lee and Geoff who are getting married and want 1.5kg of personalised M&Ms in teal?

??

Personally I would have used them anyway. I can't see anyone really minding the green not being correct!

Thats probably what we'll have to do. It's just annoying spending that much time on them and them not being perfect. I guess nobody will even care, but still annoying!

Sorry to hijack lee, but can I ask, how true to life was the colour? I mean, was the colour on the screen a good likeness? We are getting some to mix with other sweets as our favours, but only if the colours are right. I wish I could get a sample first!

Actually, the colour is not too bad a match which is why we should have thought it was off when we ordered them as the website obviously did not match the dark green sample we had but the others matched. We got a fair few colours to try and I still have them. Which ones were you interested in and I could probably send you some?

We have the two greens, white, pink and grey and obviously the teal! The writing doesn't show too well on the teal though.

I'm quite near the shop so could pick up a few more if you wanted others?

On the website there is a white, pink and purple mix. That is what we wanted. If you could send any, I would be so so greatful! Where is the shop?

The shop is near picaddily circus in London. I have white and pink I can send you, but if you can wait a couple of weeks I can get you purple too. The order was delivered to me a week after I ordered, so you dont need to order too early.

BTW, do you need them personalised? Because the personalised ones cost twice as much as just the coloured ones so if you could get to the shop that would be cheaper.

I would like them personalised but I am not sure they would be noticed enough for the cost to be justified.

I'll pm you my address, it is more the pink I am worried about, on some of the photos it looks almost red, but a coupld of the purple would be great if you can.

    Thank you

    xxxx

OK let me send you the pink ones and I'll throw in a couple of the white ones so you can see the quality of the printing too.

BTW I had to pay £20 for postage too!!

Wow! that is alot of money in postage, I would definitely use them even if you could just mix them with some sweets of the same or contrasting colour to mix them in x

Our personalised M&Ms went down a storm. They were most definitely noticed, most definitely photographed and uploaded to FB in excitement and out of 140 guests ALL boxes got taken away. We also had a text saying 'we ate our M&M's watching a film on our flight to Florida, the people either side of us commented on how cool they were!'

We gave each guest 40g of M&Ms which is a standard portion, in a clear box. This is what they ended up looking like:

We ordered a small tester bag before placing our big order to check colours and printing. We also got a 'free postage' discount with the tester bag and so saved ourselves the extortionate postage on the large bags.

I know it's nice to have everything matching, but are you really that bothered that you're happy to waste that money? I don't think it really matters if the sweets match the theme. I'm sure people will be more focused on how cute they are with your names on and how yummy they are x

Can I ask where you got the boxes from?

Think you've rescued my favour dilemma!!

Best thing to do would be to use a pair of digital scales, put the jar on, zero it, then weight how many grams of normal multi-coloured-from-the-supermarket M&Ms take to fill it to the desired level.

    Then multiply it by 100.

The bags come in 1.5kg bulk bags. Which actually aren't THAT huge, I was expecting a pillow sized bag they way they were described!

My boxes were 6cm x 6cm x 2cm (so 72 cubic cm, or 72mL as they are comparable) and we used 40g in each. Which I think was roughly a standard bag portion.

110ml sounds a big portion, but I could be lacking visualisation here.

We ordered them ages ago, I'll need to do some digging, for some reason I think they had something to do with a cat in the name... I'll go have a google for you.

They came flat packed and you will need clear, round stickers to secure them shut, if not your contents will be everywhere.

I think this is them. I remember the cat bit now, it says 'bought to you by one-eyed cat' in the corner of the website.

Probably a long shot, but don't suppose you still have your stamp for sale do you?

Or even mind sending me the JPeg you designed and I can order one?

I have both the stamp and the .jpeg (I designed it myself so you won't find it elsewhere!)

Someone did ask for my stamp though way before the wedding. I'll try and get back in contact with them first.

Could you contact me with your email address via the little icon top right of this post, and I can send you the file.

    Ducky.

Edit - You realise the stamp says Mr & Mrs in the M&M font? Not just M&Ms? Just checking you won't be disappointed!

Yes, I had initially thought it just said M&M's in the first pic I seen but after doing a search I find one where I realised it said Mr&Mrs - very cool :-) Will message you just now, thanks.
