Grrrr..... snow :(

kizzi10000, 18 January, 2013 at 12:13 Posted on Planning 0 20

Gutted. Was due to view the venue on Sunday afternoon, but have just been emailed saying she'd have to cancel due to the snow.

We've only had it here this today, and it's only been forecast for the morning (stopped at the moment), so can't see why she'd have to cancel now without seeing how the weather fares into tomorrow. The venue is in the woods, but there's a road leading up to the site and a gravel track, so wouldn't have thought it would be inaccessible.

Of course I can understand if the snow melts overnight/tomorrow and freezes, making driving dangerous. Have asked if we can delay a decision until we see what happens tomorrow. Conditions aren't great now, but might improve....

I'm supposed to be runnin an off-road 10k on Sunday morning, and that's going ahead at the moment pending a decision tomorrow lunch time, and that's a little more involved than a venue viewing Smiley sad

Just disappointed as was so excited about finally doing something obviously wedding-y, and much more fun than working out savings budgets lol

Hi, I know how you feel. I had taken today off work and had 5 visits booked in back to back! Made one this morning, but all the rest cancelled - gutted! Fingers crossed you can work it out and still get to see it soon Smiley smile

You don't happen to live in South Hampshire area do you? It's just that I've picked up on a few clues from your post...!! Think I'm meant to be doing the same 10k too!

Snow will turn to sleet by mid-PM and it'll be gone by Sunday. Don't worry! ?

Lol, I am in deed. East side of the New Forest, and the Venue is the treehouse on the Beaulieu estate. Stubbington 10k by any chance? ?

We're having to rearrange loads because of it! Thankfully we've still got time to get them rearranged, but its still a pain.

Our caterers cancelled our final meeting with them Wednesday night to rearrange for next Wednesday as we've had bad snow since Monday night. Even though todays been the best day so far, tomorrow doesnt look good too. We're cancelling florist and my hair trial that are tomorrow morning as theyre 30 miles away from us so is a long way to go in bad weather (on country roads). Hair I'm going to try get rearranged for Wednesday as well, as I've already got make-up and dress fitting that day, and then caterers that evening. If its still OK by afternoon, we'll try sort out cake. We were going to see my aunt about rings, as she's making them for us, with help from OH with mine - but this I again might try fit in Wednesday before caterers.

I will say, hats off to our photographer who came to our house last night through freezing fog on still snowy roads to do our final meeting!

Yup! ? Should be fun in the ice!!!

It was the combination of the Forest and the 10k which gave it away!

Beaulieu is lovely. Wish we could afford something as nice...went to a wedding at the Rhinefield House Hotel last weekend in the Forest. Was GORGEOUS but it costs a bloomin' fortune to get hitched there apparently...

I haven't got anything booked but it does drive me mad when the UK comes to a stop because of a little bit of snow. How do others countries cope with it? They have heavier snow than us and they don't stop everything.
Personally I'd rather go see the venue in the snow as I would like to see what it looks like in the snow as this is the time of year I'm looking at getting married Smiley smile

Apaprently it's due to health and safety because it's too icy ☹️, so even though we will be dressed for the weather (both being outdoor types we have suitable footwear and clothing), it's best to postpone.

I do concede I don't know how bad conditions and roads are in the more rural areas, but it irks me a little that each year we get 'caught out' by the snow and the whole country is unprepared. As a friend who lives in Germany said - fit the car with winter tyres and you've no problem getting about

Ahh well, only another 2 weeks to wait ?, and certainly better than anyone gettin married this weekend with guests having trouble getting there

We've got 6 meetings over 3 days in the middle of next week and I'm already terrified about the snow ruining our plans - to rearrange and change dates we've taken off work would be an absolute nightmare. Sometimes I really don't like the snow Smiley sad

Just be glad you have the luxury to rearrange!

I've had to cancel a hen do today and won't be able to rearrange for before the wedding and am also going to have to send BM dress by post for alterations..
