rachieb13782, 27 April, 2011 at 17:07 Posted on Planning 0 25

Just had an e mail from an auntie saying my cousin is a fussy eater (will only eat pizza etc) and there is nothing on my menu she will eat. Im not changing my menu for one person!!! aaaggggghhhhhhh people really are annoying! Then she said can she have a kids meal, what does she think were having bloody mc donalds!!!

If you dont like the food dont come!

Rant over.

How old is your cousin? Tell her to bring a packed lunch if she doesn't like the 'free' food you are kindly supplying

Whole heartedly agree. Luckily (so far) we have only had two dietary requirements and they are legit so i will forgive them ?

I've only had one person. She only eats chicken or fish and said if we are not having either of those she will have the vegetarian option. No worries thats what it's there for. Although a work colleague has said she can only come to the evening reception as she has such bad food allergies she never eats out. At her own sisters wedding last year she took a packed lunch.

So far, we have a seafood allergy, several veggies, two closet-veggies (so I will need to make a judgement call about what to serve them), and six individuals who object to mushrooms/peppers/onions/sweetcorn/peas. Dislike of peas is x 2 - I didn't realise how offensive they were!

IMO, fussy eaters are spoiled eaters. Annoying.

WSS It annoys me that some people can't just suck it up for one day. Has she even tried the food on your menu to know if she'll like it? Or is she (like my neices) never tried it but because it's not chips or Pizza that she doesn't like it?

A "dislike" is not a dietary requirement as far as im concerned and if someone tells me they dont like what will be served then i shall eat it and they will go hungry ?

Allergies are a different matter I think, we were quite happy to cater for these where possible although it turns out the person who is a coeliac is only coming in the evening and my friend who has a nut allergy can't come at all so we don't have any allergies to cater for anyway!

Threads like this always make me pleased we have buffet-style options at both the afternoon tea and the evening meal... fussy people can just pick what they like and there's enough choice that everyone should be able to eat something. I am a veggie myself and am fussy about certain foods (e.g. don't like raw tomatoes) but I'd put up with it at a wedding.

That sounds like a pain. All my vegitarians are happy so long as their meal doesn't contain Mushrooms.

Agree! Our RSVP card was aimed at taking the mick out of the best man (a pea-hater, seriusly, I have to cook him baked beans with steak when he comes for dinner). It said:

Dietary requirments.........................(an irrational fear of peas does nto count - you knwo who you are).

Unfortunately, it seems like there's a few of them Smiley smile

I agree that allergies are completely different to fussy eaters. I told her she would be more than welcome to bring her own packed lunch but she kindly refused saying she would be highly embarrassed. Thats fine with us and am just glad she is still coming to the evening reception.

Haha my OH doesnt even like the food on our menu! Hes such a fussy bugger all he will eat is the soup and maybe a few potatoes from the main and the custard being served with the pudding. His diet consists of pizza, turkey burgers, chips etc so he can like it or lump it Ive gone for the safest menu so as to avoid fussy eaters so hoefully shouldnt have too many problems ?

Fussitus really annoys me as I am wheat intolerant, and it does make me feel unwell when i eat even a tiny bit - I made it well known to those i know who are fussy that if they don't like the food, they can bring their own!

We have over half a dozen people with Coeliacs, 2 severe nut allergies, me and SIL2b both can't have even the slightest bit of dairy, there's about 4 vegetarians (including my mum, who is such a hardcore vegetarian, I've had to ask the caterers to make sure the hog roast is cooked out of sight).

After we've done our heads in trying to make sure everyone can eat stuff from the buffet and not be ill, if anyone gave me a 'but I don't LIKE that' response, I'd scream.

I just replied saying we cant change the menu for one person, she will have to eat the food or give it to someone else at the table. Im sure someone will have her share!

We have offered Roast turkey, Roast beef or Brie and tomato filo tart. but NO she don't want any of them! ? Some people are difficult!

Were going with the premise of 'attempting' to please 90% of our guests. We've 2 coeliacs catered for, Our 2 veggies don't eat mushrooms so that was easy enough - they are gettin stuffed peppers ...and our turkey comes with sage stuffing which 3 people have told us they don't like. The way I see it, were providing 5 courses - if u don't like sthing u'll still get enough to do u. So dry your eyes!!! One of the veggies hates melon, I sit with her everyday day in work & know how much it bugs her when her only starter option Is melon so she's gettin a veggie ceaser salad.

People who are really fussy annoy me a little, it's only because people pander to them that continue the fuss. I know children who only eat pizza/burgers etc but it's because their parents let them get away with that they continue - they'd soon eat something if they were hungry enough.

I have a sensitive stomach, spicy food doesn't agree with me, but unless curry is the only thing on the menu I'd take what I'm given, if there's something I don't like I'd leave it on the plate.

I'm the fussiest eater of them so I knew a sit down meal after the ceremony was a silly idea as my whole family is the same as me. That's why we have a booked a separate room at a restaurant and will be able to order whatever we want from the menu. It's not very glamourous but I don't care as it's practical.

As for the reception, we have asked for a mixture of canapes and a buffet so again, people can choose what they like and not be forced to eat the things they don't.

Whatever happened to 'you'll eat what your given'?! That's how I was raised! Even if there was something on the menu I didn't like, I'd have a good go at eating it anyway and without complaint. Anything less is just bad manners! Of course, allergies are a completely different case.

    Exactly wss.

I'm a fussy eater, I hate peas, tomatos & I don't really eat red meat. However I have never ever RSVPd to a wedding invitation and mentioned this. I've always eaten what I'm given, even if it's not something I'd ever normally eat. Dislike of food is definitely not a dietry requirement in my book and I can't believe that people would even include things like this on an RSVP, I can understand why you'd be annoyed!

We'll do our best to pick something that we think will suit most people but I'm sure there'll still be people (i.e. OH's grandmother!!) who complain & that's just tough. If they don't want to eat it, they can go hungry. I'm sure there will be someone on the table who will hoover it up. I wouldn't change your choices for your cousin if I were you. And at 25 she wants a children's meal???!!!!

    It's just so rude!

We haven't given our guests a choice over food and I haven't offered the information of what we're eating.

We did want roast beef but MIL is an absolute pain and whinged she wouldn't eat it pink grrr so we just opted for chicken. I have to say, we didn't just pick what food we wanted as I was conscious we don't all have the same taste so we tried to opt for "safe" options such as chicken and soup.
